The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers recap for Friday, January 14, teases that Abby Newman-Abbott-Chancellor (Melissa Ordway) will explode over Devon Hamilton’s (Bryton James) custody move – and Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) will have an ultimatum for Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan).
At the Chancellor mansion on Friday’s Y&R episode, Chance Chancellor (Conner Floyd) will toss and turn while having a nightmare.
After Chance wakes up shouting “NO!” and scares Dominic Newman-Abbott-Chancellor (Rainn and River Ware), Dom will start crying in his bassinet near the sofa.
Abby will rush in and get updates on what happened, so she’ll quickly get Dominic to sleep and reassure Chance about his dad skills.
Abby will be more concerned about what’s going on in Chance’s head since sometimes it feels like part of him is still in Spain.
After Abby brings up the possibility of Chance talking to a therapist like Sharon Rosales (Sharon Case) or someone else who could help him deal with his trauma, Chance will promise that’s not necessary.
Later, Chance will stare at Dominic in his bassinet before donning his coat and leaving the house.
At Devon’s penthouse, he’ll look over the paperwork Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan) has drawn up to help him pursue shared custody.
Devon will be adamant that Chance isn’t ready to be a parent yet and will want to fight for his right to be there for Dom.
That said, Devon will struggle with the idea of attacking Chance and Abby’s parenting skills.
Amanda will contend that Devon has to make the argument that Chance is incapable of giving Dominic the love and support he needs right now.
Amanda will know it’s going to be painful, but she’ll insist they have to go into this with their strongest strategy.
Amanda will admit that custody battles can be brutal, so she’ll want to be sure Devon is willing to do what it takes to win.
Amanda will agree to handle this with as little insult as possible, but she’ll warn about the risk of Abby and Chance letting their hurt feelings turn to anger.
They could send their attorney into battle mode and cut off Devon’s access to Dominic if Amanda loses – though she’ll feel confident she can pull off a victory.
Devon will feel he has to do right by Dominic and will want to move forward, even if things can’t be handled in a civil way.
Devon will also nix Amanda’s idea of just letting her work this out lawyer to lawyer. Devon will think he needs to be the one to tell Abby what’s going to happen next.
At Crimson Lights, Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) will flirt with Sharon and hint about a proposition he has for her.
Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) and Tessa Porter (Cait Fairbanks) will interrupt with coffee orders for Sharon, so Rey will have to delay his pitch.
Mariah will mention having a little surprise planned along with Tessa, so they’ll plan to visit Chance and Abby’s place later.
Once Rey is alone with Sharon again, he’ll face another interruption. It’ll be Chance, who’ll confess that he’s decided to take an indefinite leave from the force.
Rey will finally get an opportunity to share his proposal with Sharon soon after.
Rey will reveal he wants to spend some quality time with Sharon on a special date – and he’ll want to leave right now. Sharon will rush to wrap a few things up in the office before they head out.
Back at the Chancellor mansion, Mariah and Tessa will show up with a gift to celebrate the one-year anniversary of Abby asking Mariah to be her surrogate.
After Abby opens the box and finds some cute baby clothes, she’ll notice that Tessa and Mariah seem extra happy.
When Mariah and Tessa admit they’ve decided to adopt, Abby will be thrilled for them.
Talk will eventually turn to Devon, so Abby will ask if Mariah has spoken with him recently.
After Mariah admits she hasn’t, Abby will recap how Devon has grown attached to Dominic and wants to change their legal agreement.
Mariah will understand Abby’s need to protect her family and will consider talking to Devon since he helped her with her own attachment issues.
In the meantime, Adam will head to Society’s bar with Chelsea. He won’t want to discuss what happened with Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) and will think he knows what Chelsea wants to talk about instead.
Adam will argue that they can’t keep having the same conversation.
Adam will reiterate that there’s no future for them, but Chelsea will feel like it’s worth risking their hearts and will beg Adam to try again.
Adam will pull away from Chelsea’s grasp and insist that he’s tried to be gentle, but she’s holding onto something that’s never going to happen.
Adam will know with every fiber of his being that any attempt to reunite their toxic romance would end in disaster. Adam will argue that if Chelsea can’t let go, their working relationship can’t continue.
Chelsea will wonder if Adam would really have her pack up her desk at Newman Media and send her on her way, so he’ll admit he won’t hesitate if their proximity is going to be a problem.
Chelsea will find that cold, but Adam will think it’d be the most compassionate thing he could do.
Adam will insist that for the last time, Chelsea has to stop holding onto hope that they can get back what they had.
The sooner Chelsea comes to terms with that, the better off Adam will think she’ll be.
Back at the coffeehouse, Chance will run into Chelsea and join her on the patio.
They’ll catch up now that they’re both back in town, but Chelsea will be a little glum over not being able to work things out with Adam.
Chelsea will mutter about Sharon knowing Adam better before deciding she’s bringing Chance down.
Chelsea will think they should be celebrating the fact that Chance is alive and will wonder if he has any Dom pics to show off on his phone.
Chance will realize he doesn’t have any, but Chelsea will argue that he just got back and that spending time with Dominic is way more important than taking photos.
After Adam appears, Chelsea will step away to order a coffee to-go from Rey.
At the Chancellor mansion again, Devon will show up with Amanda and learn Chance is out running errands.
Abby will realize this is about Dominic and will insist on waiting for Chance before Devon says anything more.
After Chance receives a text from Abby urging him to come home, he’ll quickly ask Adam if things are really over with Chelsea.
Chance will hint that Adam needs to hang on if any of that old love is still there, but Adam will confirm that he doesn’t feel it as Chelsea eavesdrops.
Rey will seem concerned as Chelsea hustles out looking hurt. Once Chelsea returns to the penthouse, she’ll pour herself a drink before hurling it across the room in fit of anger.
At Society, Mariah and Tessa will discuss the complicated situation with Devon, Chance and Abby.
They’ll feel bad for all their friends, so Mariah will decide to reach out to Devon and see if she can help.
At the Chancellor mansion again, Chance will arrive and join Abby as they prepare to hear what Devon has to say.
Devon will think he’s doing what’s best for Dominic as well as himself. He’ll admit he’s taking legal action to get shared custody, so Abby will fly into a rage.
“You are taking us to court to spend more time with OUR son?! How could you do this to us?!” a furious Abby will shout.
