The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers tease that Summer Newman-Abbott (Allison Lanier) and Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) could split over Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters). All the mom drama could bring a divorce risk, so let’s talk about where things stand and where they might go from here.
Y&R fans know Summer is certainly wary of Diane and her agenda. Summer doesn’t want to pressure Kyle to shut out his mother, but she’s admitted that Diane scares her.
That’s particularly true when it comes to Harrison Abbott (Kellen Enriquez). Summer has obviously become quite protective of her stepson and will be watching Diane closely now that she’s in Harrison’s life.
The more access Kyle gives Diane, the more worried Summer’s going to become. If Diane makes one wrong move, Summer will inevitably go ballistic.
That’s the kind of thing that could cause major issues since Kyle’s got a blind spot when it comes to Diane.
There’s part of Kyle that still wants to see Diane as someone kind and loving – the sweet mother he remembers from when he was a child.
Kyle has also seen how good Diane is with Harrison, so he may be too quick to trust “Didi” for Summer’s taste.
If something negative happens, Kyle may defend Diane and act like Summer’s attacking her unfairly.
Diane is already causing problems in Phyllis Summers’ (Michelle Stafford) relationship with Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) – and she’s doing it without even really trying!
It seems like Diane’s presence alone is enough to drive people nuts and set relationships up to fail.
Right now, Diane approves of Kyle’s marriage since Summer makes him happy.
That could change if Summer later takes too harsh of a stance against Diane and conflict breaks out.
Diane might decide that Kyle would be better off with someone who’d be more supportive of his mom.
In that case, it’d be easy for Diane to shift gears and start actively trying to sabotage “Skyle.”
Bottom line, Kyle and Summer’s marriage is going to be tested in the months ahead.
Summer and Kyle can either conquer the obstacles that land in their path or let the Diane drama tear them apart!
