In tonight’s Chicago Fire finale episode, Brett wants to adopt a baby. She wanted to adopt Amber’s baby. Only she will be at the bottom of the list if she goes through the foster care system. She was single, she hadn’t done any home checks, and she didn’t exactly have the money to afford an adoption lawyer.

There was very little chance of getting that baby girl if she goes through the system. Brett was despairing about it when a good person told her how she could jump ahead of all the red tape. Brett could become a mother that much sooner if the baby’s biological mother takes custody of the child. And then designated Brett as the guardian.

There was just one problem with that. It was the baby’s mother. Amber was a teenager who realized she got in over her head and she dropped off her baby at the firehouse.

A safe haven. Amber had seen how much love Brett was willing to give to her daughter, but she didn’t feel that same love herself. She knew she doesn’t have what it takes to be a mother. She left Chicago after she abandoned her baby. She moved in with her dad several miles away and she was hoping to continue her life as a teenager. Maybe even grow up one day.

Amber didn’t want to retake custody of her baby. She wanted to walk away from the child. It was Brett who loved the little girl and who tracked down Amber to beg her to help her get custody.

Amber dropped off the baby at Brett’s firehouse because she saw the love Brett had for the baby. She knew that Brett was the right person to take care of her little girl and so Brett just needed her to follow up on that instinct. Brett asked Amber to think about it. She left Amber’s new home to give the teenager time to think about it and she was waiting to hear back when she got called out to a scene.

This guy tried turning from the middle lane. He cut off another guy. The guy drove into a pole. His boat that was tied to the back of his car then fell on a woman and it crashed another car. It was a big pile up.

Something weird also happened at the scene. Herrmann had helped a woman out of her car. This woman claimed to be a psychic and she gave him a free palm reading. She told him that he was about to go through so much pain. She even apologized because she felt bad for him after reading his palm.

Herrmann told the guys about it. He said he didn’t believe it. He claimed he just thought it was weird that she would say that after he saved her life, but he did have trouble sleeping afterwards. Herrmann kept drinking coffee because he was afraid to go to sleep. He wanted to follow up with Ms. Doreen. The others found out about it and they told him to drop it. They said she was a fake. She couldn’t predict the future and nothing bad was going to happen. They didn’t know that Kidd found armor piercing bullets at the pileup.

Kidd was warned by Homeland Security that an anti-government group was planning an attack. This group’s goal was to overthrow the government and the first wave was supposed to be about an attack on the electrical infrastructure. Kidd called DHS. They sent Casey to assist her team. Casey being back in town also worked out for Brett. Brett’s boyfriend broke up with her. He partially did it because he wasn’t ready to have a family. The other reason why he did it was because he knows that Brett was still in love with Casey.

Things didn’t go well for them the last time Casey was in town. Brett was distant for weeks afterwards. She wouldn’t talk to Dylan. She wouldn’t tell him what was wrong and so he figured out on his own what happened. He wasn’t mad at Brett about it. He didn’t throw a hissy fit only he knew she wasn’t the right one for him if she was still in love with someone else. Dylan still wished her best. He hopes the adoption goes through for her. Her friends were hoping the same and that’s why they sought out Amber.

The others, along with Casey, had sought Amber because they wanted to act as character witnesses. They said Brett would love the baby with all of her heart. She was a great person and she will make an even better mother. Amber saw that for herself. She later called Brett. She’ll take back custody of the baby with the plan to give her to Brett. Also, the bad news came for Herrmann around the same time the thing with DHS. Some members of that terrorist group tried to shoot up the power grid. They shot up the place.

They shot Mouch. They almost got the other firefighters and so Casey took it upon himself to save the day. He safeguarded the place. He acted in spite of Chief Boden warning him not to. He made sure the power grid was safe against assault. He kept the fire from spreading and it was thanks to him that the Chicago didn’t go dark. As for Mouch, he went to the hospital. He started to bleed out while he was there. There’s no telling if he’ll make it and to this was the pain that the psychic predicted for Herrmann.

And Casey, who hadn’t heard about Mouch’s turn for the worst, had proposed to Brett because he’s still in love with her.

THE END!
