Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers recap for Monday, January 9, reveals that Alex Kiriakis (Robert Scott Wilson) kept declining Chad DiMera’s (Billy Flynn) calls on Stephanie Johnson’s (Abigail Klein) phone and turned it off to avoid interruptions during their first time making love. Here’s how all the DOOL action played out.
While Alex and Stephanie sizzled in peace, Kayla Johnson (Mary Beth Evans) was rapidly deteriorating at the hospital.
Although Kayla feared she might not make it, Steve Johnson (Stephen Nichols) did his best to stay optimistic.
Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall) was also growing increasingly ill on Monday’s Days episode, so John Black (Drake Hogestyn) decided to pay Orpheus (George DelHoyo) a visit at Statesville since he might’ve been behind the orchid theft.
That gave Marlena a chance to talk to Eric Brady (Greg Vaughan) about all the drama in his life and her hope that he wouldn’t lose that beautiful heart of his.
In deceased Kate Roberts Brady’s (Lauren Koslow) hospital room, Rex Brady (Kyle Lowder) and Roman Brady (Josh Taylor) mourned the loss.
In a moment alone, Roman told Kate that he’d love her forever and cried over her body.
Rex gave Steve and Chad updates on Kate’s death, so they were all crushed over the news.
Chad assured Steve that he would find Stephanie and took off to make it happen.
At Statesville, Lucas Horton (Bryan Dattilo) lashed out at Orpheus over his plot to murder Kate, Kayla and Marlena until John showed up.
John wasn’t able to pry any orchid info out of Orpheus, who was pleased to hear about the women relapsing and needing another dose of the cure.
Over the phone, Rex informed a devastated Lucas about Kate’s death, so Lucas physically attacked Orpheus soon after.
John broke up the fight with a prison guard before heading back to check on Marlena.
Next on Monday’s Days episode, Kayla learned Kate was dead and shared a tender moment with Roman since he didn’t want to lose her, too.
While Kayla said some sweet parting words to Joey Johnson (Tanner Stine) and Tripp Johnson (Lucas Adams) over the phone, Chad finally found Stephanie in Alex’s bedroom.
After barging in on Alex and Stephanie under the covers Chad explained the dire situation at the hospital.
Stephanie raced to get dressed, but she didn’t make it in time to tell Kayla she loved her or offer a final farewell.
Steve pushed Kayla to hang on, but she became too tired to keep fighting and died right as Stephanie arrived.
That made the loss even tougher on Stephanie, who embraced Steve in mutual grief over Kayla’s tragic outcome.
Once Alex realized his phone sabotage cost Stephanie the chance to say goodbye to Kayla, he secretly battled major guilt.
As for an emotional Chad, he paid Kate’s corpse a visit to express his love and let her know how much he’d miss her.
Marlena also found out about Kate and Kayla’s passing, so she ended up distraught in John’s arms.
Back at Statesville on Monday’s Days episode, Orpheus offered Lucas some contraband alcohol as a bereavement gift. That left Lucas looking tempted by his old vice.
