In tonight’s Fantasy Island episode, Helene was firmly welcomed by both her father as well as his girlfriend. Elena wanted to be there to support Helene and Javier didn’t make a decision without including her. She was his sounding board. Javier never expected to become a sudden father to an adult. He’s figuring his way out as much as he could and there were some hits and there were some misses.

Take for instance when he bought Helene a stuffed toy on the mainland. He thought he was being nice and the gift was better suited for a kid than it was for a young woman. There was also a fact that neither Javier nor Elena knew what to do about Helene sleeping in.

Helene was waking up at two in the afternoon wanting breakfast. They weren’t sure if sleeping in was her usual thing or if it was part of the process as she grieves her mother. They thought it was odd she was sleeping in, but they didn’t know her too well to talk to her about it and so that’s when Javier enlisted Ruby.

Ruby looks like a young person even though she’s not young. She lived an entire life. She got married and she has kids. Javier asked her to talk to Helene for him. He wanted to know what he was expected to do. He was a little lost and finding out Helene’s needs will help.

Ruby was playing an undercover agent while two new residents on the island were living out their fantasy. Dutch and Dolly Paymer were on the island celebrating their anniversary. They’ve been married for a long time. They got hitched when they were eighteen.

They now wanted the island to help them make the decision on if they should stay together or split up. They gave up their wedding rings. They lost all of their memories of being married to each other. Yet, they still sought each other out on the island.

They began flirting with each other. They talked for hours about what their former marriage was like for them and they were finally able to see the other side of the argument. They got along so well that it wasn’t long before Dutch and Dolly decided to get married. They didn’t know they were already married to each other, but this little experiment on the island just proves that they will always circle back to each other. And Elena’s face when she found out they were getting married was priceless.

Elena was remembering what they initially told her when they first got to the island. They got married after only three weeks of knowing each other and so this particular couple has always been in a rush to the altar. Even once they got the chance to do it all over again. They still chose each other and they still wanted to race to the altar. Elena tried to warn them that they rushed into things with their exes. She suggested that maybe they take it slow this time and they told her there was no need. They discussed everything important.

Religion, politics, science, and morals. They both felt they covered everything they could cover and they wanted to get married. They had a small, beautiful wedding. Elena presided over it. She pronounced them man and wife and that’s when they remembered everything. They both got upset with Elena. They said she tricked them. They said that they couldn’t wait to be free of each other. They accused her of cheating them of the experience of being free and when one of them said that Elena was treating their marriage like a game – she decided to mess with them by making it a game.

Elena turned their fantasy into a game show. She was the audience. She watched them as they were asked questions about each other and each wrong answer sunk them into quicksand. There was a lightning round. There was a sudden death round. They finally figured out the answers to many of the questions they had for each other. It ultimately ended with Dutch finally being honest enough to tell Dolly that he wants out. He’s wanted out for a while. They were soon removed from the quicksand once they finally became honest with each other.

Elena saw how destructive Dutch and Dolly’s marriage were. It made her talk to Javier about her habits and how she doesn’t mean to drive him crazy with certain things she does. If she’s biting her nails, she’s not bored. She’s anxious. If she’s humming in the car, she doesn’t hear herself. She only does that on a long-distance trips. She also might insist he eats something. She does that because she genuinely thinks it will make him happier. Elena wanted to clear the air because she didn’t want him to develop a sense of resentment over the years.

Javier was just glad she was thinking of their relationship in years. Javier came clean about some of his habits and the two of them became closer after saying everything they needed to say. Which was what Dutch and Dolly needed. Dolly went through Dutch’s rooms. He was on several medications. He wasn’t going to the gym to check out other women. He was suffering from a heart condition. He was told to get into shape and to lower his cholesterol if he wanted to live another year and he didn’t tell his wife because he thought she wanted out. And he didn’t want to manipulate her into staying with him.

Dutch thought Dolly wanted out because she spent twenty grand without talking to him. He believed she was moving money into her personal account and really she was using the money because she got into a writing collective in Italy. She didn’t want to tell him about it because she thought he’d accuse her of wasting money on a pipe dream. Only he didn’t think that. Not now. He was proud of her for pursuing her dream and she was glad he was finally talking about his emotions with her. And so they decided to stay together.

Over with Helene, Helena figured out Ruby was older than she looks. She caught on after Ruby failed to recognize Gen Z lingo and so they came clean with each other. Helene thought finding a dad would help her figure out her life. But she’s still a little lost and that’s okay. They got drunk together. They talked about their emotions and Elena and Javier had to come and rescue them. And afterward Helene called Javier “dad”.

THE END!
