Tonight’s episode begins with Meredith leaving Seattle. She had taken a job out of state. She’s packed up her kids and she no longer needs to worry about her house because it suffered an electrical fire after getting hit by lightning. Meredith’s sisters had found others places to stay. Meredith was living out of hotel with her three kids. She was dealing with a lot when Nick came around with his own brand of drama. Nick was angry with her taking a job out of state. He tried calling her. She didn’t answer and so he later accused her of moving without telling him. And she had to remind him of their last conversation.

When they last spoke, Meredith told him that she loved him. He didn’t say it back. Ergo Meredith believed she could move and it wouldn’t bother him. She even brought that up to him when he came into her office all upset to hear she was moving. Meredith truly believed that their relationship was over when he didn’t say the words back. Nick then got upset about how that one encounter was being used against him. Him not saying the words back was just him taking it slow. He was calling what Meredith did “manipulation” because she was throwing his words back in his face.

Meredith didn’t see the big deal. She was confused by Nick’s temper tantrum. The whole conversation went nowhere and Meredith has other things to worry about. She wasn’t going to beg a man to love her. He may have forgotten, but Meredith still in charge at the hospital. She was Chief. She was running things and she has to stay on top of her workload before she eventually hands it over to someone else. And one of the things that was most pressing was this risky new surgery that Maggie wanted to pull off.

Maggie was a Cardiosurgeon. She usually gives people new hearts and send them on their way. Only things were different this time. She was potentially changing donor donation forever if she manages to successful complete the first partial transplant. Maggie really wanted to do the surgery. The only problem with it was that this experimental surgery would be done on a baby. A small baby that could consent for itself and who has two parents that were too scared to take any major risks right now.

The little boy was born with a problem with his heart. He needed surgery or he wouldn’t live more than a few days at best. But if he does get the surgery, there was a chance that he might actually live long enough to experience life in all its glory. He might live until adulthood. Something everyone wants for the child and so the hard part was convincing his parents of it. They were scared to take a risk. They knew there was a chance their son might not survive surgery. They therefore wanted to use their time with him wisely. And Maggie also couldn’t convince them differently.

It had actually taken Amelia to convince them. Amelia knew what they were experiencing. She found out when she was six months pregnant that her child wasn’t going to survive long after birth. His brain wasn’t developed properly. There was nothing she could have done to fix it and she made the hard choice to through the pregnancy anyways because she knew he could save other children by becoming an organ donor. Amelia had to grieve during her pregnancy. The parents were grieving now when there was a chance to fight for their son and so Amelia talked them into the surgery.

Maggie later performed it with the help from her husband. She and Winston have been having some issues lately. They weren’t really fighting. They were just giving each other space and space seems to be working for them when it came to work. They work great together. They pulled off a surgery that many doubted. They also helped the surgical interns with a little problem. The interns were all struggling with finding a place to live. Simone was living with family. Which wasn’t great what with her grandmother being sick. Amelia’s nephew Lucas was also staying at a youth hostel that has a roach problem.

Then there was Mika who had been living out of her van when it got towed. The interns were in trouble and Maggie wanted to help them, but first she decided to push Winston’s buttons. She’s disrespectful. She was rude to him. Winston eventually called her “cold” and he told her that he needed time away from her again. As in serious time away. She went go stay with Amelia and she left their temporary home to him. The two them were going through something serious when they pushed aside their problems to throw Meredith a farewell party at the hospital. Link messed up the cake, but it was okay. And everyone got the chance to tell Meredith they love her.

Nick missed the party because he was still upset with Meredith. It had taken him talking to the all wise bartender that Helm became for him to realize that he does love Meredith and so he called her to try and tell her that. Only she pretended not to hear him. She instead told him that she’ll call back after they land.

And Meredith handed over her house to the new batch of interns. Simone, Lucas, and even Mika get to stay in the house and someone gets to be there to oversee the repairs to the attic for Meredith.

The End
