In tonight’s Law & Order: Organized Crime episode, the squad threw a surprise party for Jet. She became a Detective Second Grade. She very much earned that promotion with all the hard work she’s been doing lately and she deserved to celebrate it. Her squad even invited Inspector Thurman to be there for the party.

He unfortunately couldn’t make it on the day because he missed the text on when the party was going to be. He thought it was going to be later and so he was actually across town when Jet walked into the decorated squad room. She was truly surprised. Jet usually doesn’t care to make a fuss. But she was so happy with the way they decorated the squad room. They also got her a cake and everyone loves cake.

Inspector Thurman called in to congratulate her. He was doing a victory lap about how he was to thank for her promotion when he overheard gunshots at a fundraiser he was attending. Thurman hadn’t been injured, but there was a woman who got shot. The victim’s name is Jennifer Lee. She was the wife of Stephen Lee. Her husband was running for city council in that area. He was just getting ahead in the polls when this happened. Everyone assumed it was an assassination attempt that went wrong. Thurman demanded that Sergeant Bell work the case with her squad.

Only this crime happened in Chinatown. Chinatown has its own detectives. The squad in that area was ran by Captain Lin. Lin was pretty old school. He didn’t want to hand this case over and Bell had to say that she wasn’t asking. Thurman was both of their bosses. He ordered her to run lead on the case and that’s what she’s doing. Bell thought they could work this like they did with the rest of their cases, but they underestimated the pull the gangs had in Chinatown. There were over twenty known gangs in Chinatown. And everyone was afraid of them.

No one wanted to talk to the cops. They pretended not to know English or the more daring ones would simply walk away when questioned. The detectives were running out of options when suddenly they got lucky. They found a supposed witness. They accidentally came across the witness they were looking for. His name was Daniel Yao. Daniel pretended not to know who they were talking about when they asked him if he’s seen Daniel Yao. But then Reyes asked him what his name was and he ran. They eventually caught up to him after a merry chase. And they brought him in for questioning.

They wanted to know what Daniel witnessed on the day of the shooting. He didn’t want to talk at first until they reminded him that he was seen getting arrested. Everyone will assumed he talked if he was released and so it would be better if he told them who shot Jennifer. Daniel admitted he saw the shooter. He claimed it was someone named Yeung. But that had been a lie. Yeung was once his best friend as kids. Then they grew up and Yeung was approached by a gang to join. He fell for their brotherhood and money ploy. And he was told to drop everyone from his former life.

The only person he didn’t drop was Detective Chang. Chang and her wife ran a basketball clinic in Chinatown that both Daniel and Yeung attended. The clinic may have lasted longer than Chang’s marriage to her ex-wife, but Yeung never forgot what she tried to do for him. He later agreed to become her Criminal Informant. He was giving her inside information on the Doyers Street Gang when the shooting happened. He could not be at two places at once and so he wasn’t the shooter. Daniel was lying.

Detective Chang explained how she knew Daniel was lying. Bell then decided to let Daniel go and follow him. They followed him to a meeting with Yuze Zhao. He was the head of the Black Tiger Gang. The feds had actually made a lot of big arrests with that gang, but then new people came in and keeping the gangs out of Chinatown was all but forgotten. Yuze built the gang back up. Daniel was now one of them and he admitted to Yuze what he had done. He thought Yuze would be happy that a rival gang got blamed only he wasn’t.

Yuze knew that if it ever got out what Daniel did that it would have repercussions for the rest of them. Which was why he decided to meet up with the people that Daniel tried to frame. He called for a meeting with the head of the Doyers Street Gang. They met out in the open. Yuze apologized for what Daniel did and he agreed to hand Daniel over to a rival gang to be killed when Daniel recognized cops were in the area and he called out for help. The cops were able to quickly move in. They couldn’t get the guy from Doyers street gang. But they did get Daniel and Yuze.

Yuze tried to flirt with Detective Chang. He thought he had a chance and she let him know that she was a lesbian. Yuze then said that the shooting had nothing to do with them. He had no clue who wanted Stephen Lee dead, but he didn’t think the shooter missed when he shot Jennifer. Jennifer ran a women’s shelter for trafficked women. She’s helped a lot of victims get away from their modern day slavers. And so they checked Jennifer’s phone.

Jennifer was in recent contact with Mei Shen before she died. Mei used to be at the shelter and she left because she was indebted some scary people and she didn’t want to risk anyone else at the shelter. The detectives tracked down Mei. Sadly, she had been murdered. She was shot with the same gun that was used on Jennifer.

Only Jennifer survived. Jennifer later woke up at the hospital and she learned that her husband was stepping away from the campaign. He wanted to use his time to be there for his wife. Not to run for City Council. And so he allowed his old friend and mentor, Michael Quan to run in his place.

But Quan was paying for Stephen’s campaign with dirty money. He was apparently a human trafficker and that’s why he wanted Jennifer out of the way. And now he was running for City Council.

And so Stabler being Stabler, he told Quan he knew it was him behind the shooting he promised to arrest him soon.

THE END!
