Adrian Creel wasn’t dead. He was supposed to be dead. Both Tennant and her former friend Maggie Shaw had believed they killed him with a car bomb only somehow he survived. He was left half dead by the blast. He had to go into hiding. He became quite a scary guy to stay under the radar this long. He surrounds himself with other scary people and he wanted several things from Tennant. He wanted the money he was promised. He also wanted Maggie’s whereabouts. Creel pretended to betray his own cousin because he was promised a new life in a new country. Maggie betrayed that promise when she tried to kill him and so Creel wanted revenge.

It didn’t matter that Creel himself lied or that he was never going through with the deal on his end. He still thought he should have been let go. Not killed or in his case attempt to kill him. Creel was that arrogant. Him going into organized crime also hadn’t help temper him. Creel needed a new life and a life of crime provided him that. He now wanted to kill Maggie for what she did to him. He knew the best way to do that was to go through Tennant. Tennant and Maggie were best friends the last time he saw them. He didn’t know they fell out. He just knew one would never be found without the other.

Creel abducted Tennant because he wanted to torture the information out of her. He murdered several people to get close to her. He thankfully didn’t kill Kate because Tennant had protected her. Tennant had tied Kate to a post back at the hotel to keep her away from the danger and she hadn’t been wrong about the danger. Charlie 1’s death proved that. Only benching Kate helped in the longterm. Kate got out of her restraints. She called Lucy. Lucy put her on speaker phone and the whole team helped Kate to find Tennant.

It was Kate who confirmed Charlie 1’s death. It was Kate who went all Rambo. Kate managed to track down the car that was transporting Tennant with Ernie’s help. She ran it off the road. She was killing off Tennant’s guards and that’s when Sam Hana showed up. Sam took out the guards that were going to kill Kate. Sam was a good soldier and he had been warned in Morocco that Creel could pose a problem. Sam saved the ladies’ lives. Tennant then told him that this wasn’t his fight and that it was okay for him to bow out.

Tennant still wanted to handle things on her own. She wanted to do it that way because what she and Maggie did was unauthorized. The attempt on Creel’s life was unauthorized. They were ordered to bring him back to the US to be questioned. They instead took matters into their own hands and they tried to kill Creel. Something Tennant didn’t even reveal after Maggie was arrested for espionage. Tennant buried what happened and she returned to Hawaii with Kate like nothing happened. She knew she would be facing a lot of questions and she tried to get out of it.

Tennant claimed that what happened with Creel was top secret. She claimed she couldn’t talk about it because it was from her CIA days. She would have continued to not say anything if it hadn’t been for Jesse. Jesse asked her what really happened. He had gotten in trouble for defending Tennant. He doesn’t mind that he got in trouble because she was family and he will always defend her, but he needed answers and so Tennant told him what really happened overseas. She told him what Maggie did.

She also told everyone else that Creel was looking for Maggie. She said Maggie was the only one that knew where the secret ops money was going and so she was the only one that could give Creel what he really wants. Both money and revenge. Tennant said nothing when Maggie was brought to Hawaii. Maggie was supposed to assist with Creel’s capture. Tennant and Maggie instead chose to go off book again. They snuck off without anyone knowing. They lured Creel out into the open. Tennant was going to arrest him and Maggie once more took over. Maggie killed him. This time it was for real. She truly killed him. And she got away while Tennant was performing CPR.

Maggie escaping on Tennant’s watch was going to result in some problems down the road. The man that was overseeing the internal review of the team had wanted to bring someone in. Someone he knew would keep Tennant from going rogue. Someone he knew wouldn’t risk their career at NCIS. And so while the team were later celebrating with Tennant about the danger being over – they were still in for a few more surprises.
