The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers tease that Chance Chancellor (Conner Floyd) will make a big decision this summer. After Chance mulls over a situation, he’ll reach a conclusion and move forward with a choice that’ll affect both Devon Hamilton-Winters (Bryton James) and Abby Newman-Abbott (Melissa Ordway).
Of course, the common denominator here is Dominic Newman-Abbott-Winters-Chancellor (Rainn and River Ware) since he’s the one thing that still links Chance, Abby and Devon.
It makes sense that Chance’s decision will involve Dominic in some way.
Back when Chance first pushed for a divorce from Abby, there was speculation that Chance might give up his parental rights.
That ended up not happening when Chance and Abby’s marriage ended, but maybe the time has finally come.
Chance wasn’t around when Dominic was born and struggled to connect with him early on, so that’s always been a factor in their attempt to forge a relationship.
Devon is the one who bonded with Dominic naturally, so Chance felt like an outsider from the moment he returned to town.
Chance may feel like even more of an outsider now that Abby has moved in Devon’s penthouse.
It seems like Devon, Abby and Dominic are creating this picture-perfect family without him, so Chance might think it’s time to just let this happen.
Although Chance may still want to be in Dominic’s life, there’s a difference in seeing the kid occasionally and sharing custody.
Chance might ultimately feel like this arrangement is going to be hard on Dominic moving forward.
If Chance is honest with himself, he might admit that he’s never properly bonded with Dom as a father figure.
Chance loves Dominic, but it’s clear that Dom has always been more drawn to Devon and his bio dad relationship instead.
It’s easy to imagine Chance having another conversation with Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) about how she stepped aside for Johnny Abbott’s (Paxton Mishkind) sake once upon a time.
Although Chelsea is carving out a spot in Johnny’s life now, she’s been careful not to interfere with Victoria Newman’s (Amelia Heinle) role as his mother.
Chance might feel like he needs to step aside from a parental role too and become more like a fun uncle than a second father.
Whatever the case, Y&R never shows Chance and Dominic having any kind of bonding scenes anymore.
It’s like they’ve erased that connection anyway, so they might make it official if Chance bows out.
Will that be the big decision Chance makes this summer?
Will Chance surrender his parental rights so that Abby and Devon can raise Dom without his interference?
