Why Has The Blacklist Been Canceled After 10 Seasons?

After 10 seasons of thrilling NBC drama, fans of “The Blacklist” are in shock after hearing the news that their beloved show has been canceled. This news comes as a shock to many viewers who have been devotedly watching since its premiere in 2013 and were looking forward to more thrilling stories from Raymond “Red” Reddington (James Spader) and his FBI task force.

There could be a number of reasons why “The Blacklist” was canceled, but one likely explanation is the declining viewership numbers over the past few years.

While the long-running show had a strong start in its first season back in 2013, ratings have steadily decreased each year as newer shows came onto the scene and captured more attention from audiences.

Despite still having some passionate fans who tuned in every week to watch Raymond Reddington (James Spader) navigate his way through dangerous missions and uncover secrets from his past, overall viewership had dropped significantly since its peak in 2016 when it averaged around 8 million viewers per episode compared to just 4 million by 2019.

Another possible reason for cancellation could very well be due to budget constraints at NBC Universal, which produces “The Blacklist.”

As production costs increase each season due to higher salaries and location shoots, networks often look for ways to save money by canceling shows that may not generate enough revenue or viewership numbers anymore.

Furthermore, with production costs rising due to COVID-19 safety protocols and an already expensive cast salary budget, including James Spader’s reported $400k per episode fee.

There may simply have been too much financial pressure on NBC executives to keep the series going any longer than necessary without sacrificing other projects they could invest in instead.

The show also faced some criticism from viewers who felt like storylines were becoming too repetitive or predictable after so many episodes aired over such a long period , which could have also contributed negatively towards ratings.

Regardless, for the die-hard fans who were hoping for some closure or long-awaited resolution with Red Reddington’s story arc before saying goodbye forever – unfortunately, you won’t get any answers anytime soon!

Even though there will no longer be new episodes of “The Blacklist” airing every week – we can still enjoy reruns on Netflix or other streaming services so we can relive all those exciting moments from our favorite characters throughout the entire run of this incredible show.
