General Hospital Recap: Friday, January 26 – Sonny Spies Nina with Ex – Valentin’s Rival Magazine – Finn’s Fraud Setup

General Hospital (GH) recap for Friday, January 26, reveals that Ava Jerome (Maura West) read an article online about Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) taking Nina Corinthos’ (Cynthia Watros) place at Crimson.

Ava left Nina a concerned voicemail as Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) appeared and acted like Nina shouldn’t be surprised that she faced retaliation.

Sonny was eager to end this living arrangement with Ava, but they had to find out more about the threat first. That’s why Brick (Stephen A. Smith) came over to share what he’d learned so far.

Brick confirmed that the gun used to shoot Austin Gatlin-Holt (Roger Howarth) was also stolen from the WSB, so Sonny assumed it was connected to the incident at the Metro Court pool.

Sonny wondered if there could also be a connection to the anonymous Wyndemere buyer, so Ava went in the other room to make copies of the shell corporation info.

As Sonny talked about added security, Brick wondered if Nina was included on the list. Sonny said Nina was still legally his wife and could be targeted, so he indeed included her.

At Charlie’s Pub, Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) joined Nina for lunch and offered money to help her fund a rival magazine that would outshine Crimson.

Valentin acted like it’d be a good investment and that he could help Nina poach Crimson’s talent.

Although Nina seemed both touched and tempted, she knew this would escalate things and didn’t want to make matters worse with Willow Corinthos (Katelyn MacMullen).

Sonny eventually came in with Ava, so he saw Nina clinking glasses with Valentin and fumed.

Nina tried to ask Sonny about the situation with Ace Cassadine (Jay and Joey Clay) and Spence Cassadine (Nicholas Alexander Chavez), but Sonny said it was none of her business.

Sonny joined Ava at the bar while Nina returned to her table with Valentin.

Soon after, Sonny glared at Nina again as he witnessed her holding Valentin’s hand.

When Sonny suggested that Ava should spend some time on his island for safety’s sake, he offered to go with her and bring Dex Heller (Evan Hofer).

Sonny thought they could help Ava settle in, but she suspected he just wanted to get as far away from Nina as possible.

At GH, Laura Collins (Genie Francis) spoke to Portia Robinson (Brook Kerr), who confirmed that she talked to Kevin Collins’ (Jon Lindstrom) doctors. Kevin was expected to get a good prognosis once he woke up, so Laura was relieved.

Laura felt guilty for wanting to believe the best in Esme Prince (Avery Pohl) and thought Portia must be angry, but Portia didn’t hold it against her.

Portia admitted she’d never fully believed Esme’s turnaround, but she also had a different perspective since Trina had been targeted and she was protective of her daughter.

Laura also spoke with Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) and urged her to become the police commissioner again since Mac Scorpio (John J. York) was on an extended trip out of town.

Anna balked due to her controversial past and the whole situation with Charlotte Cassadine (Scarlett Fernandez), but Laura felt that Anna was the right person to give the PCPD stability.

After Jordan Ashford (Tanisha Harper) sent Harrison Chase (Josh Swickard) off to investigate Esme’s potential hideout with Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna), she joined Laura and backed her up regarding Anna.

Although Anna remained uneasy, Laura pushed her to at least thinking about accepting the position.

Brick eventually met back up with Jordan and revealed that the contact who called her phone did so using a burner. However, Brick was able to find out that the call came from near Pentonville.

Jordan offered updates to Anna, so they determined that John Brennan (Charles Mesure) must’ve been the one in touch with her.

In Paris, Spencer Cassadine (Nicholas Alexander Chavez) checked into a fancy hotel with Trina, so they shared some romantic moments before making love.

The bellhop accidentally walked in on Spencer in his underwear, so he apologized and handed over the converter that Spencer had requested.

Spencer was finally able to charge his phone and got Laura’s message, but she was reassuring when he called her back and got the latest news.

Since Kevin was going to be fine and Esme was believed to be in Toronto, Laura and Portia thought Trina and Spencer were safer in Paris.

Although Trina tried to convince Spencer to be near his family, he felt he was already right where he needed to be.

In Toronto, Dante and Chase prepared to enter the apartment that they suspected Esme was hiding out in with Maggie.

At the courthouse, Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco) told Elizabeth Baldwin (Rebecca Herbst), Hamilton Finn (Michael Easton) and Martin Grey (Michael Easton) that she found security footage of Dennis Muldoon entering the medical pavilion.

However, they still needed proof of which oncologist Mr. Muldoon visited and had to find out why he would’ve hidden that from Finn.

Once Finn’s trial began, Diane Miller (Carolyn Hennesy) came out swinging and got Finn a bit riled on the stand, so Martin scolded him afterward.

Mr. Muldoon’s widow also gave her testimony, but Martin went easy on her since it was never a good idea to give the widow a hard time in front of the jury.

During a recess, Sam came back with proof that the Muldoons had racked up a ton of debt from loans and the Aurora stock crisis.

Mr. Muldoon also took out a new life insurance policy, so Finn reeled as he realized Mr. Muldoon set him and wanted his family to get the lawsuit money once he gone.

General Hospital spoilers say Sam’s discovery will affect the trial in a big way, so stay tuned.
