In tonights The Golden bachelorette episode, the Bachelor/Bachelorette franchise has entered a new era. They were now helping the older set find love. They used to just help people in their twenties, but now they’ve got a bachelorette that was sixty-one. Her name is Joan Vassos. She’s a private school administrator.
She was also a widow. She was on the first season of the Golden Bachelor and she had to leave due to a family emergency. Her daughter had recently given birth. She was struggling with postpartum depression. She needed her mom and so Joan chose her daughter.
Joan missed out on the rest of the season with Gerry only her story doesn’t end there. She was back to find love. She was going to be dating a group of men in her age range until she finds the one.
Fingers crossed that they work out. Gerry’s story ended in heartbreak. His story should serve as a cautionary tale for Joan. She now knows that geography was going to play a huge role. She couldn’t pick a guy that lives states away because ultimately he’s not going to want to leave his own family behind to make her a priority.
Plus, Joan wouldn’t want to move. She wouldn’t want to leave her family behind and this goes double for the grandkids. She was settled where she was. She celebrated thirty-three years with her late husband. There’s no way she’s going to want to move thousands of miles away from his burial place.
She still puts flowers on his grave. She loved John and he died from pancreatic cancer. It’s a cancer that’s automatically means a death sentence. She had to watch him become less of himself until he died. And that was a trauma all on its own.
Joan has been through a lot. She’s processed her grief. She was ready to find love again. She was looking to include someone in her life. She therefore needs someone that will prioritize her and naturally some of these villains aren’t going to fit the bill.
Just look at what happened with Jenn. Still, there was bound to be one great guy in the bunch. Could it be Pascal? Pascal was French with a charming accent. There was also Kim. Kim was a widow like Joan. He was a Navy man and he arrived in full dress whites. It left an impression.
Some were nervous tonight. They were worried about putting themselves out there. Joan did her best to put them at ease. She’s been in the limo herself and she knows how hard it is to make a great first impression. One guy sang to her. Another told her he admired her selflessness.
He was the father of three girls and he would have left the show as well if his daughter needed him home. There were also skinny guys. There were husky guys. Joan was sweet to everyone and that gained her more admirers than anything else.
She didn’t even tell the singer that he was no Frank Sinatra. She instead she told him he had a lovely voice. She cracked jokes with one of the Charles. She sniffed Guy. The guys also weren’t mocking each other behind the scenes. They were already showing more maturity than their younger counterparts.
They all watched David’s entrance because he came in on a horse. He’s a rancher down in Texas. His horse was a part of the family and he couldn’t wait to introduce Joan to her. And there was a woman that came out of the limousine.
It was Kelsey. Kelsey was engaged to a former Bachelor. She won his heart on his season. She now arrived with her dad, Mark. Mark was looking for love. He was a widow.
He was the father of five. Kelsey was his youngest. She showed him that he could find a genuine relationship on a reality show and so now he was ready to see if it will work for him. Kelsey just came along to be his hype woman. Both of them left a great impression on Joan. Joan was liking what she was seeing so far. She tried to get time to speak with each of the guys.
Joan was good at remembering details. She knew their names. She remembered where they were from. She was also fun. She got into a scooter race with one of the guys.
She played pickleball with another guy. It then turned into a pickleball competition with all twenty-four guys. Some got really competitive. Joan was almost hit by several balls and she had to excuse herself from the court just so she wouldn’t get hurt. When they weren’t playing, they explored the house. It was the infamous the Bachelor house after all.
Everyone wanted to see it. They explored. They found a room with nothing but candles everywhere. It was very romantic and it was a great place to take Joan to talk. The other guys found the fridge.
They even found some pots. They decided to start cooking and they had dinner. Jack was a caterer. He made a plate for Joan. Cooking was his love language and it showed Joan his commitment.
Charles L also made his special tea for Joan. There was also one guy whose mother was sick and his mom encouraged him to still go on the show because she wanted him to find happiness.
Mind you the last guy kept interrupting Joan so maybe he should work on that first. Joan had a first impression rose and she could only give it to one guy. It didn’t go to the guy that kept cutting her off.
It also happened after they watched the videos. The guys’ children made videos for them and Joan. Pascal’s son promised not to throw a party at the house. Which was his biggest concern when he joined the show. The videos were really heartfelt. They moved the guys to tears as well as showed Joan another side to them.
The videos helped Joan. It helped her make a decision on who should get the first impression rose. She chose Dan. Dan’s introduction stayed with Joan. She found him a charming and funny guy. She then gave roses to several handsome men. She also took a moment for herself because she felt so bad that she couldn’t give a rose to everyone. Her final rose of the night went to Jack. And while it was sad to see some guys go home, Joan at least thanked them for taking time out of their busy lives to come.
She saw what they left behind. She has nothing but respect for everyone. She also ended up saying “I love you” to someone this season and so the future episodes ended on a happier note.
THE END!
