In tonight’s Tracker episode , Colter headed to Oregon. He has a friend with a daughter that was missing. The friend was Lizzy Hawkins. She and Colter go way back. They haven’t spoken much recently, but she reached out to him because he was the only one she knew that could find her daughter.
Her daughter was Katie. Katie took a boat out with her boyfriend. She and Dylan were storm chasers. They posted videos on their website as well as social media. Their jobs depend on the bigger the risks the better the reward. There was a fear that they might have capsized during their last chase. And so Colter went into this one not knowing if Katie was still alive.
There were also a few things that didn’t add up. There was a third member of the team. Her name is Rachel. Rachel and Katie started out as storm chasers. They were working for about five years when Dylan entered the picture in the past year. Rachel was monitoring the storm on land.
She was talking to Katie on the radio when the signal cut out. It was odd because the storm hadn’t hit them yet. The storm hit that area twenty minutes after they lost signal. They easily could have come back to the mainland in that time. They didn’t because something stopped them.
Colter later went out onto the water with Rachel. They searched the area where the couple last had signal. They ended up finding Dylan’s body. He was floating in the water. He got mixed up with some seaweed. Sheriff Woods was called in. He felt this was a tragic accident.
Colter disagreed because he noticed that someone cut up Dylan’s wetsuit. It’s like they wanted to make sure that he sunk to the bottom of the ocean. There’s no justifiable reason to do that other than to hide a murder. Colter tried to tell the Sheriff that and the Sheriff was refusing to believe him.
Sheriff Woods said that tourist season was coming up. They didn’t want anyone to think their community was unsafe. Colter had a private word with a deputy.
He learned that Dylan got into an altercation with the Sampson brothers. The brothers were Australian. They came to Oregan for the surfing conditions or so they claim. They also got territorial about their beach. Colter tried to ask them a few questions. Xavier Sampson didn’t mind answering them. It was Bo Sampson that seemed to have something to hide because he was quick to assault Colter.
Pushing him was assault. Colter was technically committing self-defense when he put Xavier into a punishing headlock for trying to follow his brother’s commands. Only Colter still learned a lot from that encounter. He learned that the brothers were hiding something. He didn’t think their problems with Dylan were about territory.
He learned that Dylan used to run with those guys. Deputy Kelman told Colter that there were rumors of drugs and that nothing could be proven. And so Colter tracked Dylan’s last movements to see if he was still involved in drugs.
Katie wasn’t involved in the drug scene. Or at least her mother swore she hadn’t been before Dylan. There wasn’t anyone that could tell them if Katie had a change of heart and so tracking was the best way of getting some answers.
Bobby was able to find a house that Dylan visited before his death. Colter went there. He found a room that was boarded up. He tore it down. He found the body of a young woman. Her name was Haley Thomas. She was a party girl from out of town. Dylan was trying to find out who killed her.
Dylan even called the man he thought was responsible. The killer was Vince Talbott. Dylan tried to get him to confess on the phone and it didn’t work. Talbott then sends the Sampsons brothers after him.
They also went after Katie in case Dylan told her everything. Dylan had been involved in drugs. He was running a drug smuggling ring for Talbott with the Sampson brothers. Talbott was a rich man that was currently under investigation by the FBI. Colter’s friend Reenie told him all about the investigation.
Reenie said her contacts were investigating Talbott for racketeering and sex trafficking. No one knows where his money comes from. They were building a case and that was going to take forever. Colter decided to be faster. He got the good Sampson brother away from the bad one. He found out that he did kill Dylan. He was ordered to by Talbott.
He just didn’t kill Katie. Katie was banged up. The good brother didn’t know if she would make it and so he just left her out on the water. He thought the elements would take her.
He proved to be wrong about that. Katie was still alive. She made it back to the mainland. She was hiding from the Sampsons. Colter found her. He kept her safe.
He had helped Bobby hack Talbott’s home security earlier. Bobby then sent a whole bunch of evidence to the feds. They also found evidence against Sheriff Woods. The Sheriff tried taking Lizzy hostage to find out what Colter knows. And that’s when the good Deputy came in handy.
The feds were called. They arrested the Sheriff. They arrested the Sampson brothers. They even arrested Talbott before he could flee the country. Katie was now safe to return home. Colter also got paid for finding her. Lizzy insisted on that.
Lizzie and Colter talked afterwards. She told him that her mother kept a box of Ashton Shaw’s things. She didn’t know what that meant. Neither did he. Colter doesn’t know much about his dad or what he did before he took the family off the grid. And so he was curious to find out what really happened all those years ago.
THE END!
