On tonight’s 9-1-1 episode, the never-ending space adventure continued tonight. Hen and Athena found themselves onboard of the ISS in the middle of an electromagnetic storm. This storm didn’t just knock out satellites. Those satellites were left rotating around the earth like debris.

They kept crashing into the ISS. The International Space Station wasn’t a safe place to stay. They needed to evacuate. There was an escape pod. The pod only fits four and so Kern offered to outfit to fit more. It could be done. He has been trained in it. There was one other issue, though.

The escape pod was being outfitted when the storm hit. There was an astronaut working on it during the storm and he was killed. Kern could do it. Only he was needed to work inside of the escape pod. The only other astronaut had a pierced lung. Both Hen and Athena offered to go.

Athena made sure it was her that went. Athena has been in a lot of dicey situations before. She talked about it with the media team before the ship launch. She said she was no hero. The real heroes were the ones that never made it home.

Athena didn’t really date after Emmett died. It was nearly eight years before she accepted a date. It was her then partner that convinced her to go on.

He said he wanted to know she has a reason to go home every day. He played it off by saying that it was a selfish desire on his part because her wanting to go home would mean they’d both make it and the truth is that the man was twice divorced. He’s seen the ugly side of love. It just never made him stop believing in it. He wanted that for Athena.

The day they talked had been the same day they interrupted a bank robbery. It all started when they almost got into a car accident with another vehicle. The driver of the other vehicle had been shot. They followed the shooting to a bank where they saw a robbery in progress.

Athena’s partner tried to engage without waiting for backup. He got shot. They were pinned down and even backup arriving didn’t change that. The robbers had armor piercing bullets. They were well-stocked. The helicopters were forced to retreat. The snipers were still getting into position. Athena had one option.

If help couldn’t come to them, they were going to it. She wasn’t going to watch McClusky die. It was the same on the ISS. Athena refused to let Hen take the risk. She went outside because said Bobby waits for her in heaven. Her cord got tangled and she untethered herself to free walk it.

She fixed the escape pod. She began to have a heart even while she was untethered and it reminded her of that robbery. She got her partner into the armored truck. They secluded themselves in there until the situation was finally handled.

McClucksy feared he was dying. He asked Athena to make sure his funeral was exactly to his standards. He died in her arms and his final words to her was that she needed to let go of Emmett’s ring. She was letting life pass her by. She needed to remember to live.

Athena remembered that lesson when she almost died in space. She remembered that she still has a lot to live for. She has her children. She has her friends. She might even fall in love again. Her partner convinced her to keep fighting then. And it was still saving her almost thirty years later.

Athena made it back to the ISS. She and most of the crew finally escaped space. They hopped onto that escape pod and they got out of there. Tricia also said she was breaking up with Tripp. They were engaged, but he still left her to die in space.

There was no coming back from that. He also couldn’t remember her astrological sign and Parker did and they just met. The only one that didn’t make it back was Lewis Kern. He was the former astronaut that missed out on space the first time because Nixon ended the program.

He finally got the chance to see space. He was older than everyone else there. Plus, he was the only one that could navigate the controls from the ISS to get them safely out of there. Kern was prepared to sacrifice himself to save the crew. He was a true astronaut.

Tripp didn’t know about leaving someone behind when he was taking a victory lap in front of the cameras. He claimed all six came back alive. His Head of PR was trying to spin this the best way she could. The survivors just wanted to move on with their lives.

Kern was still coaching his football team from space. Yes, he survived. Tricia used her stock in Tripp’s company to force him out and had Parker replace him. She also gave back the ring because he might need to pawn that now he lost his company.

Athena remembered following McClusky’s advice back then. She met the father of her two children. She also got to go home to those two kids. They talked and Harry figured out what he wants to do with his life. He applied to become a firefighter. He was going to follow in Bobby’s footsteps.

And that scared Athena more than anything.

THE END!
