The intersection returned tonight when the teams paired up. First, they flew from Hong Kong to Japan. They went to Osaka. They had to book their own flights. They had to gets rides to and from the two airports. It sounds easy but was in fact really hard. There was the language barrier. They had to book their trips through a certain travel agency. It was located in a mall. The teams kept getting lost trying to find them. It also didn’t help that there was a second mall with a similar name. And leading the pack were Carson and Jack.

The two best friends from Brooklyn were the first to book their flight. They could have waited for a straight flight. They chose instead to take the faster route in spite of there being one stop along the way. They took a trip that would get them to Japan at six in the morning. The other travelers didn’t think of that. They just thought about the nonstop flights. Those were booked early on and so most of the teams got stuck on a flight that would get them to Japan a whole two hours after Carson and Jack.

Plus, one team was already fighting. Bernie and Carrigain were constantly at each other’s throats. One felt her best friend could be sometimes abrasive. The other didn’t see the downside in that because they were taking part in a competition. She didn’t travel all away around the world just to lose. She wanted to win and she basically told her bestie that she was better than everyone else. She probably shouldn’t have said that out loud because the missionaries were judging her. Scott and Lori met when they both became missionaries for their church. And Scott was definitely judging her.

He overheard the two friends arguing. There was a part of him that wanted to help. Only that died when the woman went off on her rant. They were competing against each other and flight times didn’t guarantee anything. Carson and Jack lost their lead to Ernest and Bridget. The father and daughter duo were adorably funny together. Mark and Brett were in second place. The married Vegas performers agreed to work with Ernest and Bridget so that they didn’t have to wait around for the next team.

It made sense that Expedia was funding the adventure. The culture tour they went on was first advertised on the Expedia website. Two people from two different teams have to join up to play drums. It has a cultural aspect to it, but it was essentially playing drums. It seemed fun at first. They all thought they’d get it easily and the truth was that not everyone can follow a beat. The teams in the lead quickly lost said lead because it took forever for Ernest to find a rhythm. He just wasn’t good at it.

Jack and Carson regain what they lost. They were working with Jonathan and Ana. The married couple and the two best friends took the lead and they chose the same second option. They were given two options for the second task. They could either make mochi or they could take part in sumo wrestling. Both teams chose sumo wrestling. They struggled with tying the belt/underwear attire (no offense to the Japanese). Coming in last was Ernest and Mark. Ernest couldn’t get the drums right and Mark began losing hope after the fifteenth time.

They started in the lead. They then quickly lost that lead. The worst part was that the two teams didn’t know each other from before and so they didn’t know how to support each other or encourage the other. Ernest cost them everything. Mark had a hard time keeping that off his face. Everyone else in the meanwhile were trying their hands at sumo wrestling. Jonathan and Ana were the first to get it right. They were the first to head to the pit stop. No one it seems had tried their hand at mochi.

Eventually a few teams chose mochi. Jeff and Pop. Courtney and Jasmin. Melinda and Erika. They didn’t know how hard it was to beat mochi into shape. It was fine for Jeff and Pop. They were lumberjacks. They have that core strength to beat mochi into shape. They sucked at forming the mochi into balls. They didn’t know how to make it the same shape. Baking wasn’t their thing. It was as everyone was doing their thing that Jonathan and Ana eased their way into the first place at the final stop.

The couple earned a ten day guided tour trip to Africa. They couldn’t wait to take their girls. Scott and Lori came in second. Mind you they took the latest flight to Japan. Alyssa and Josiah came in third. Those two have more or less stayed in the middle and were now working their way up. The spots were filling up as people either wrestle a sumo wrestler or fight to get mochi into shape. Ernest and his daughter were hoping for a miracle. Their partners from earlier had already made it to the final stop.

Ernest and Bridget were eliminated tonight for being one minute behind Han and Holden. If they had just been a little quicker, they could easily have overtaken the siblings for the last spot. And so tonight’s race was going to stay with them for a while.
