In tonight’s The Voice episode, it is Night One of the Semifinals! Four of the Super Saves came back. The other eight contestants had to deal with a live show on top of those super saves. They were people that were so good that the judges didn’t want to let go of them. The entire group of twelve were going to be taken down to just five. Which meant seven people were going to get cut after tonight’s performances.

The first to tackle such a daunting task was Kolby Cordell. He could do a little of everything. His coach was Adam and Adam said that Kolby was the best Steal he could’ve ever gotten. He actually thanked John Legend for being foolish enough to let someone like Kolby slip through his fingers.

Kolby chose “Drink You Away” tonight. It was a little of everything. It matched Kolby perfectly. He had fun with this one and so did the audience. Everyone loved this performance. He kicked off the night in an unbeatable way, but there have been last minutes surprises before. He needed votes. They all needed votes. Next up was Alanna Lynise. She returned to the stage newly engaged. She was also pregnant. Her coach was Kelsea who congratulated on her great news. She loved Alanna. Alanna’s skillset and voice has always showed up to work.

Alanna was a constant professional. Kelsea loved her so much that she shared a story with her. She admitted that she was a theater girl. Even when she was a kid. She went out for a role in “Peter Pan”. She was hoping for Wendy or Tinkerbell. She got the role of the ostrich. She still loves theater though. She has that in common with Alanna. Alanna’s song tonight was “I’m Not That Girl” from the Broadway play turned movie, “Wicked”. Alanna knocked it out of the park with this one. She wasn’t just singing for herself anymore. Her baby gave her the courage to be herself. And she was perfect.

Next up was Jadyn Cree. Her coach was Michael. He said she truly was unique. He was someone’s whose own voice was considered old school if not offbeat and so he understood Jadyn in a way no one else could. He was a great coach for her. She chose the song “I Think We’re Alone Now”. She loved the girl pop era. She also reintroduced this classic to a new audience and she has plenty of fans. One girl cut her hair to look just like Jadyn. Jadyn kept things upbeat and she had everyone smiling. It just depends on who will be voting tonight.

Olivia Kuper Harris was up next. She was a Super Save. Before she was brought back, she actually performed as a background singer for Teddy Swims. He loves her. He nicknamed her “Olive”. Olivia came back for John. He believed in her. He was one of the few people that fought for her and she couldn’t turn that down. She came back tonight with her rendition of “Someone to Watch Over Me”. She went further back in the vault than anyone else tonight. She picked a true classic and she didn’t stop with just the song.

Olivia did the full thing. She did the makeup along with the dress. She also wore sleeve gloves with it as well. She looked like Jessica Rabbitt to tell you the truth. The one difference being the color of her attire. Her dress was green. Not red. Her gloves were black and not purple. She still rocked it out. Next up was Iris Herrera. She first tried out for season twenty-six. She didn’t get any chair turns and so she came back the next season having done work. She had three coaches turn for her. She was now on Kelsea’s team. And Kelsea was a great coach for her.

Iris chose the song “Messy”. Kelsea didn’t just know it. She was currently obsessed with it. It was her song right now and so she gave Iris some tips. She wanted one instrument to play at the start. It would better highlight Iris’s tone. The band came in later. Once Iris got to show her full range. It was a great performance all in all. Team Adam was next with Lucia Flores-Wiseman. She grew up in Seattle. Her father introduced her to the grunge scene. Her mother introduced her to 70s rock. It made Lucia realize that she didn’t want to fit into a box.

Lucia wanted to be herself. She loved a lot of music. She tried to combine that in her choice tonight. She performed “Black Hole Sun”. Adam coached her by adding the band in later. Yes, he had that idea too. He like Kelsea knew that sometimes the artist doesn’t need to imitate anyone. Their voices were strong enough to stand on their own and that’s exactly what Lucia’s did. Adam differed in that he added a little James Bond to Lucia’s rendition and she sounded wonderful. The reason so many Super Saves came back because the talent this season has been off the charts.

They all deserved to stay.

Next up was Bryson Battle. He was in college. He was willing to take a break from school and was even willing to miss out on his graduation because his dream of singing was just too strong. Bryson has an amazing voice. Sometimes he doubts it. He did that during practice. He chose the song “Without You” and he held himself back during rehearsals. He had a voice to truly do a Mariah Cary song justice. He just needed to be reminded of that and luckily that’s where John came in. John told him that he could do the higher notes. He was capable of so much more than he thought.

John would know. He’s seen him in action. He told him that he was playing it safe when he should be himself. He gave Bryson the confidence boost he needed to remember that he does got this. He later performed with his amazing voice. He also did show that he could reach as high as Mariah. Next up was Jaelen Johnston. He was another Super Save. Kelsea was glad to have gotten him back because she loved a true country artist like Jalen. Jalen didn’t just have the twang. He came full fitted out in the cowboy boots and hats. He performed “I Drive Your Truck” tonight. And everyone could see why Kelsea brought him back.

Adam David was up next. He wasn’t a Super Save. He was unique in the sense that he was a one chair turn. Michaeal was the only one that turned for him and Adam showed why that wasn’t a mistake in the months that followed. He was talented. Not just vocally. He plays instruments. He doesn’t shy away from his talent. He rewatched his Blind Audition. He saw where he went right and wrong. He used that talent in a great way with his performance of “Bring It On Home to Me”. He did Michael so proud that Michael was left in tears afterwards.

Michael said that he was glad that the world got to see what he did in Adam. He was a like a proud brother with this one. He also got to show off the amazing talents of his Super Save who went next. Michael brought back Kaiya Hamilton. Her soulful tones deserved another chance. Kaiya performed “Ain’t Nobody” like a true champ. Michael was proud of her too. He called her flawless. The other coaches thought the same. They stood for her. They all love Kaiya. It was now up to America to show they love Kaiya too.

Next up was Conor James. His coach was Adam. He was a Super Save. Adam said he brought Conor back because he was a unicorn. He was a completely unique soul. Plus, there was more they haven’t seen from Conor. Conor came back tonight and he chose a tough song. He chose “Chasing Pavements”. Much like Mariah, Adele was hard to replicate. Conor just had to do his own thing with it. He sounded great. It helped that the particular album spoke to him. He was able to be himself with that rendition.

And the final artist of the night was Team John’s RENZO. RENZO has the best scream voice of the season. He was made for Rock. Even his song choice showed it tonight. He performed “Dream On”. He was so perfect in everything he did that he did the impossible. He moved such a jaded if not experienced coach like John Legend to tears. What a way to end the night. The audience would have kept rooting for him if they hadn’t gone over in time. And everyone at home was abruptly faced with Martha Stewart.

THE END!
