In tonight’s The Voice episode, the artists performed twice. They had one up-tempo song and one ballad. Experience of past artists has shown that pretty much anything can be a ballad or turned into one.
The singing part was basically up to the artist. They either kept up the energy or they didn’t. However, they didn’t open up with a song tonight. They instead opened up with a heartfelt message for the many victims over the past few days. It was time for everyone to come together and what better way than through song.
One of the Wild Cards of the night was DEK Of Hearts. Team Niall has more artists to bring it home for him. Their first song was up-tempo. They chose “Fishin’ In The Dark” by Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. They knew they were underdogs and so they had fun with this one. They rocked out. They were smiling. They were engaging with the audience. They also harmonized and Niall loves it when they do that. He says that its magic. The other coaches enjoyed this performance as well. They got Reba onside. And nothing else mattered once a Queen of Country ruled.
They were kicking off the holiday season with drinks during the commercial break. Carson even joked he’ll need an Uber after tonight. Next up was another Wild Card. Max Chambers was back! Max was a great vocalist. He has experience singing on Broadway and he loves those oldies. He changed things up tonight. He performed a somewhat more modern song for his ballad. He performed “Your Way’s Better”. Max did Team Michael proud by choosing a song that was bold of him.
Max has a strong faith. He wrote a letter to music thanking it for helping him find his way. He grew up singing in the church and brought that out during his rendition of Forrest Frank’s song. Michael later said there were going to be plenty of people at home watching. They were going to feel just as proud of him as Michael was for not being afraid to express his joy in God. Max didn’t go with a traditional ballad. People were going to remember that too. After Max, it was Aubrey Nicole’s turn on the stage.
Aubrey opened with a contemporary song as well. Her first performance of the night was “Till You Can’t” by Cody Johnson. This was a story song and so the only note Reba had during rehearsals was to keep her eyes open. Which Aubrey did for her live performance. She was moving with the band. She was inspired to perform this song after she went back home and she had a mini meet and greet. There was a little girl who asked for advice to break into singing. Aubrey’s words to her meant so much. It also reminded Aubrey of what means to her to have Reba as her coach,
Aubrey grew up listening to Reba’s music. Now, a little girl was going to grow up listening to Aubrey. It was a full circle moment. It was a great performance. It was also followed by the great Jazz McKenzie. Jazz went for ballad for her classic song. She performed “Against All Odds” by Phil Collins. Michael and her chose this song together because they both knew only she can do it justice. Jazz impressed everyone last time with her rendition of “Don’t Stop Believing”. Tonight she brought tears to Michael’s eyes.
Michael couldn’t hold it in. He started crying with his praise for her. He was so happy for her as an artist and as a coach. She was perfection. She might possibly bring another win for him and it was only night one of the Live show. Jazz was soon followed by Aidan Ross. Don’t know how that man found a ballad in contemporary music yet he found a song that fits both. Aidan performed “Golden Hour” by Jvke. Niall said it best he always finds the heartbeat. It wasn’t an easy journey. Then again what counts was how he finished the song and he finished on a high.
Ralph Edwards was Team Snoop’s star. He’s tried out eleven times before this season. Yet, he was easily the best four chair turn of the season because he was nicknamed “the voice”. He has a distinctive voice that couldn’t hide a single emotion he wished to convey. Ralph performed “I Want To Know What Love Is” by Foreigner with great acclaim. He never gave up and he gave one of the best performances of his life tonight. Snoop was so proud of him. Snoop was on his feet dancing with him. He loved that man like a brother.
Aubrey was up again. She could have picked any song. She chose “The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia” by Bobby Russell. Though everyone remembers Reba’s rendition. This ballad was amazing. Aubrey got into it because she knew she had a lot to live up to. Reba’s rendition was famous. Aubrey’s rendition was great and who knows? It might make her famous as well. People can start buying these artists’ music right now through Apple Music. They were giving it all and it’s a way to support them as they make singing their career.
Next up was DEK Of Hearts. They performed a contemporary ballad of “Let It Go” by James Bay. They were a trio and so they had the harder task of giving each other a moment to shine individually while still performing together. Somehow they always managed to do just that. They gave music a love song. It didn’t start out as a love song. It was originally a breakup song about heart ache that they turned into a love song to music itself. They were also in turn followed by Jazz. Jazz really was made to be a star.
Jazz also performed a heartbreak song. She put a little more upbeat spin to it. She performed “Driver’s License” by Olivia Rodgrigo and once again she moved her coach to tears. Only he wasn’t alone this time. Snoop shed a tear too. He said her voice was special because of the way it moves people and he wasn’t wrong. The voting opens tonight. It was up to America to decide who should win it all. Jazz made herself a top contender after both performances. And Team Michael kept it great with Max up next.
Max got to look back at his journey on the show. He was so nervous right before his first performance and then he got on the stage like he was born to it. The nerves just fell away. He really was an exceptional kid. He was going far and not just “The Voice” far. You know where people completely forget about them after two seasons. He was also incredibly brave for tackling a Whitney Houston song. He performed “One Moment in Time” by her and he still sounds incredible. The Finale was going to be a tough one.
Up next was Ralph. Ralph proposed to his girlfriend. He finally made it onto the show. He’s had a busy year. Ralph performed “Locked Out of Heaven” by Bruno Mars for his second song. He brought such fun with this song. He also highlighted that his voice was capable of both ballad and up-tempo. He even showed some of his dance moves with this song. He got into it and Snoop wanted him to win. He felt Ralph deserved it. The other coaches couldn’t hate either because they all gave him a standing ovation.
And the final performance of the night went to Aidan. Aidan looked back as his old performances. He remembered performing Adele as his favorite because he had never been happier. He’s happy tonight and he performed “The Winner Takes It All” very well. It made up for earlier. It displayed he wasn’t out of the fight and he could still pull off an decisive move tomorrow. You never know, he might win!
THE END!
