In tonight’s Tracker episode, Colter Shaw followed up on that phone number. It was registered to David Pearson. He was a former scientist. He died in 2003 from what appeared to be suicide.
The same year that Colter’s father died. David also worked in Hampton, Virginia. It was a hop skip away from D.C. He might even have worked for the government. Randy doesn’t know because he could only access certain files. He knows that officially David was an academic and that he packed up everything one day to head to California.
It could be he retired. Or it could be he was running from something. Randy has no idea how to determine the truth. He offered to keep digging and Colter let him.
He needed the answers. Colter’s father died under mysterious circumstances. He felt finding out the truth about David and his connection to his dad would help him get those answers. Colter couldn’t go looking himself because he was called back to Echo Ridge. It’s in California. It’s also where Colter grew up. His mother needed his help on a missing person case.
There was no reward this time.
The missing man was Bill Weaver. Bill worked at the dinner. His sister owned the place. It was struggling to keep the lights on in this day and age. Bill came back to help.
Bill used to have a problem with drugs. He got his life back together and suddenly he went missing. Many from the town feared he fell of the wagon. His sister knew better. Bill was helping her one shift when a man with a little boy came in. Something didn’t seem right about the situation. The little boy looked broken. He didn’t try to run away from the man nor did he accept help.
Still, their feelers went off. The man gave off creepy vibes. He ordered food for himself. He wouldn’t order anything for the kid or let him eat or drink. He also told the boy not to talk to anyone when he got up to go the bathroom.
Bill tried to talk to the kid. He gave him a free slice of pie. He told him that if he was danger that he could help him. The kid never said anything. The man soon returned to the table. He got upset about the free pie. The same for all the questions that Bill was asking. And then there was a disturbance that took Bill’s eye off the man with the kid.
They disappeared. Bill went after them and he never found them. It haunted him. He began looking into it. He found out that the kid’s name was Chris McCain. He was a kidnapped child taken from San Francisco.
He was apparently lured away by a stranger. Bill blamed himself for not rescuing the kid when he had the chance and he went looking for him. He thought he was still nearby. The town has changed a lot since Colter lived there. It’s gotten far more dangerous. The man with Chris was spotted with Ronnie Yates.
Colter found this out through a friend. His friend also warned him from contacting Yates. Yates dealt in meth. He reportedly had ties to the Aryan Brotherhood. Colter offered to keep his friend’s name out of it, but he had to talk to Yates.
Yates liked to hang out at this one place. His girlfriend worked there. Colter got into his car while Yates was still in the building and he surprised Yates with a gun. He told him that Bill was missing. He said he didn’t care about anything else. He wanted to find Bill and Chris.
Yates claimed that the man Bill was looking for is Carl Murphy. Murphy was a freelancer. He wasn’t part of Yate’s crew. They just used him from time to time. He swore he didn’t know that this was about a kidnapped child.
He said that’s a line he never crossed. He even offered to find Murphy himself once he knew what this was about. Colter told him in a few words that he missed his chance. Yates told Murphy that Bill was looking for him. He admittedly didn’t know why. He only knew at the time that Murphy was an associate.
Yates accidentally tipped off Murphy. Murphy set a trap for Bill. Bill was killed and Colter later found his body. It was at Murphy’s property. He owned a piece land outside of town. His father left it to him when he died six years ago.
Colter found the property abandoned. It was recently abandoned. Someone had set a fire to toys that was still smoking. Colter went into the trailer and he found the photos. Murphy was a registered sex offender. It’s why he doesn’t work for one company. He was a freelance trucker as well. He does shift work here or there.
Murphy used the fact he was a trucker to hide what he was really doing. He was involved in child trafficking. He has been taking young boys from all across the country. He kept photos of them as means of enticing a buyer for them. Bill must have caught on because he was killed for it. Colter found the body. He also found a carving.
Colter recognized it because his father used to make those. The one he found looked like his father made that one too. Colter called his mother. He asked her if his dad was connected to Murphy in any way.
She didn’t know. She said there was a lot she didn’t know about her late husband. She didn’t think he’d be involved in anything Murphy did and Colter hoped that was the case. He called the cops after he found Bill.
They alerted the feds. They offered to break the news to Angela. Colter meanwhile went after the kids. They couldn’t have been moved far. He roped in his friend, Paul. They searched the woods. They eventually found Murphy at this old barn. They also found two kids. They saved the children. They killed off Murphy’s friends.
Colter stopped Murphy from fleeing. He shot out his legs. He threatened to cut off his fingers too if he didn’t tell them where the kids he took. Murphy said they get sent to a place in Texas. He gave them the address.
They passed it onto the feds. The feds later raided the building. They found all the missing boys and reunited them with their families. Colter later told Angela what Bill did by uncovering all of this. It wasn’t much. Only Bill died a hero. Colter also learned why Murphy had a carving from his dad. He got it from his uncle.
Colter tracked down Murphy’s uncle. The man was weary. Otto Waldron had nothing to do with his nephew since he found out what he was. He knew he was a pedophile. He cut him off years ago because of it.
He knew Colter’s father. He even used his first name when Colter revealed his last name was Shaw. Otto admitted that he helped Ashton Shaw adjust to the wilderness. He was a lineman himself. He knew the woods. Otto then went on to mention that he was there that night. The night Ashton died. It was Otto that killed him.
It wasn’t because of Ashton’s work with the government. Otto killed Ashton because Colter’s mom asked him for help. And if she knew that Otto killed her husband all along, blaming her eldest Russell for the crime was reprehensible.
THE END!
