In tonight’s Tracker episode, Colter Shaw has two siblings. For the longest, he thought his older brother was responsible for their father’s death. His mother fed into that theory as well. It was just Dory that thought differently. Dory got away the first chance she could and she sees now how messed up their parents were. They were both brilliant.
They had been professors until one day they took their three children off the grid. Colter grew up hearing his father’s version of events. His dad used to claim that he was onto something. He was going to make a major breakthrough in his research and people wanted to steal it.
They had to live off the grid those supposed people. Their dad taught them to hunt, shoot, and track. He claimed he was preparing them for a better life. He was actually crazy and he didn’t leave his job. He was pushed out. Colter’s siblings long suspected that their parents cracked once they couldn’t continue their work, but their dad did continue.
He just did it off the grid along with everything else. He gave a file to Lizzy’s mom. Lizzy was a childhood of his kids. Her mom also was a scientist. And Lizzy wasn’t experienced in that field.
She saw the file. She thought to return it to someone who’d appreciate it. She gave it to Dory, Colter’s sister. Only Dory never told her brothers she got dad’s old file. She also never discussed dad. Colter reached out to her. He wanted to know what the file said and his sister who was scientist herself now had said it was junk.
Their dad was researching zero point energy. It might have been groundbreaking back then. It wasn’t much now. Dory also said that their dad merely gave the file to that woman because they were having an affair.
Colter tends to look back at the past with rose-colored glasses. The truth is their father was a horrible dad. He demanded so much of them and he yelled at them. He bullied them. He threatened them into doing what he wanted. They could never question him or anything he said or did. It just made him angrier. Dory was the youngest.
She hated living in a cabin in the woods. She wanted to be around friends and listen to music. Something her father hated. He lashed out at her one night for whining.
It had looked like he was going to physically hurt her. Dory’s brothers stopped him. They stood up to him and he was so angry that he stormed out. He didn’t care that there was a literal storm outside at the time. He left. He was found dead at the bottom of the ravine. It was thought Colter’s brother pushed him and his brother later denied it.
His brother also mentioned that he looked into their dad. He wasn’t just fired. He was doing work for the government that had his file redacted. And so Colter didn’t believe Dory when she claimed that file was junk.
Colter would have pushed his sister if Reenie hadn’t called him needing help. There was a missing woman. Her name is Francie Butler. She was the assistant to Leo Sharf. Sharf was a billionaire.
He was one of Reenie’s clients. He was about to launch his latest company when someone abducts his assistant. He couldn’t go to the police. He didn’t want to risk the launch and so Reenie offered to help. She called Colter. Colter came running because Reenie was a friend. No one knew about the abduction at first. They just knew Francie disappeared and Sharf knew that wasn’t like her.
Francie was more than assistant. Sharf considered her a close friend. She was on call for 24/7. She handled everything. She even holds Sharf’s medication and reminds him when to take it.
Its how he knew something was wrong. Colter found the pill bottle in her purse. The same purse that was left in the room right next to her cell phone. It was when Colter was with Sharf and Reenie that someone sent a video to Sharf. Francie was showed tied up. She had been kidnapped. Her kidnapper was demanding five million dollars for her safe return. Sharf agreed to stall while Colter tried to find Francie.
Colter found where she was being held. Only she wasn’t there anymore. She had been moved. It was something odd about the scene. There was blood on the wall and a bullet in it.
The scene had been staged because there was no human matter or evidence found on the bullet itself. Colter thought at first that it was a ploy. They were going to keep coming back with ransom demands till they bleed Sharf dry. Which meant this was personal. Sharf had a long line of enemies and Reenie thought the most dangerous one was Sheldon Grimes.
Grimes created the new company that Sharf was about to launch. They supposedly did it together. Sharf needed a reason to push out Grimes and so he hired Reenie. He had her investigate Grimes.
She found out that Grimes has a long history of violence against women. He put his ex-wife in the hospital for years before she left him. Then he went scorch earth on her in their divorce. Grimes seemed good for this and so Colter went looking for him. Everything he found showed that Grimes had a grudge. Grimes also disappeared weeks before the kidnapping.
Grimes’s computer showed he was looking into Reenie. Colter thought she might be in danger and called to warn her, but the call came too late. Reenie got grabbed while on the phone with Colter.
He went looking for her and he found Reenie’s boyfriend shot. Elliott wasn’t dead. He merely made the mistake of going with Reenie to the office. She needed to grab something and him being there made him a liability. Elliott was rushed to the hospital when Colter had no other choice than to alert the authorities.
The FBI got involved because it was a kidnapping. They had to follow protocol. They didn’t want to accept Colter’s help. It was Sharf that asked Colter to keep looking and he eventually found Francie alive.
She was tied up and thrown into a dumpster. She made up this fanciful story about her kidnappers dumping her there when they made a run for it. It was a lie of course. Colter didn’t realize it at the time. He was too busy looking for Reenie. Reenie meanwhile got thrown into a room right near Grimes’s.
Grimes had also been kidnapped. He thought Sharf was responsible. He was wrong. Sharf was ruthless only he had no reason to kidnap Grimes. He already ousted him. No, it was Francie.
It was all Francie and Colter knew why the moment he had Bobby look into her. Francie changed her last name. Her real name was Francesca Barzotti. Her brother invented a company and Sharf pushed him out. Took credit for all the work Cyrus did. He made a lot of money and Cyrus killed himself when he didn’t get a penny of it.
Francie wanted to kill Sharf. She was smart enough to know that she needed a patsy if she wanted to get away with it. Francie planned on blaming everything on Grimes.
She would have killed Sharf too, but Colter made a call to his FBI buddy. She was killed before she could harm Sharf. Colter also found and rescued Reenie before she could be killed. Reenie talked to Sharf. He denied stealing anyone’s technology. He also said he would have died to protect Reenie if he could.
It was a lie. Francie gave him a choice of him or Reenie. He chose himself like he always does. There was just no one around to record it and so he got to get away with a bunch of lies. Reenie was also going to keep him as a client. She doesn’t believe a word he says. She knew that people are complicated.
Colter returned to his airstream to find his father’s things in a box that Dory left. He looked through them and he found a piece of paper with a phone number on it. He called. It was disconnected. Not that he was going to let that stop him from finding what really happened all those years ago.
THE END!
