There were two sisters that went skiing in the Bob Marshall Wilderness. They went up a mountain. They just didn’t come back down. Not until Colter Shaw went looking for them. He got a call from an old friend about this case. It was feared the sisters were dead or injured. The latter proved to be true. Colter quickly found them on the mountain. Shelly had hit her head on a rock. She was hallucinating. She started to feel hypothermia. It tricks the mind. She thought she was warm when she wasn’t. She ditched her clothes and Colter found her before she died from the cold.
Shelly was too injured to make the trek back to the snowmobiles. Her sister Brianna was also quickly found. She wasn’t injured. She actually tried to go for help because she thought she saw someone on the mountain. Only it was odd. The person she saw was wearing antlers at the time. Colter dismissed what she said when he reunited the sisters. He was more concerned about keeping them warm on the mountain. He sent his friend McLaren off to the snowmobiles. They had extra phones there and his current SAT phone got injured when Brianna was rescued.
While his friend was off, Colter did find activity on the mountain. He found a cabin. There were people inside. They didn’t have phones or so they claimed. What they did have was some snow mobiles. There was one with a sled. It was big enough to carry Shelly. Colter told them that there were sisters that needed help. They got Brianna and Shelly. They brought them back to the cabin. Colter hadn’t heard from his friend in a while and so he tried to radio his buddy. He still got nothing. He told everyone that he was going out looking for his friend.
Colter told them to go for help if he wasn’t back by morning. He went off looking for McLaren. He eventually found him injured. The guy walked into a trip wire he didn’t spot in time. He warned Colter about it and Colter was about to help him when someone started shooting at them. Colter didn’t see the shooter. He was more worried about getting McLaren to safety. He brought him back to the cabin and found everyone gone. This included the sisters. It was morning by then. Colter again tried to look for a reasonable explanation and the truth was that the sisters didn’t go skiing.
Brianna and Shelly were making a documentary. The mountain was known as the “deadzone”. There have been several people that have gone up there and disappeared. This included a female photographer. The sisters were investigating her disappearance for their documentary. They went looking for trouble and odds are that Shelly didn’t just fall. She probably got injured after walking into a different boobytrap. Randy found out about the documentary as well as the creepy name for that mountain. And he became concerned when he didn’t hear back from Colter.
Randy tried to express that concern to Reenie. She dismissed it as paranoia. It also didn’t help that Bobby was finally back and he too was ready to dismiss Randy. He did so partly because he was annoyed at his cousin for making a mess at his office. The sad part about all of this was that he was right to be worried. Colter realized the trio he ran into the cabin had abducted the sisters. They also killed the real owners of the cabin. Colter found the elderly owners dead in the shed. He realized the trio had lied about everything.
Colter was worried about the girls. He wasn’t sure what would happen to them. He went looking for them. He found Amelia first. She was the woman. The only other woman on the mountain. It turns out she wasn’t married to one of the guys. She was their hostage. She’s been their hostage for nine years. She went hiking with her dad. They killed her dad and they tortured her to the point she thought all men wanted to harm her. She even thought that of Colter until he convinced her otherwise.
The men weren’t just killers. They were monsters in a cult. The leader of that cult was Father Ammon. It’s what he calls himself. It’s what his sons Rufus and Dash call him too. They lied about not having means of contacting the outside world. They stayed on the mountain because they were cannibals. They kill the men. They eventually kill the women too. The one woman they didn’t kill was Amelia because she made sure to follow the rules. She does what she’s told. She asked for permission for everything and the men became suspicious of her when she began to act of her own accord.
Amelia said she found rats in the pantry. She claimed she had to put out traps. It was her excuse for when she was talking to Colter. She also tried to make the men coffee. They didn’t ask her to make it. She just did it in the hopes of keeping them busy while Colter snuck in, but one incident they can ignore. Two incidents and they realized she was up to something. They searched the house. They didn’t find Colter. He was able to send an SOS to his friends from their device in the basement. Reenie called in a favor with a rich guy and she was sending a helicopter his way when the men realized they could draw Colter to them.
They hung Amelia. She was dying and so Colter was forced to act. He moved in. He was trained. They were not. He killed the men with the help from Brianna. He also saved Amelia. He saved all the women. The chopper later arrived and everyone was able to get off that mountain. This included McLaren.
And Reenie might regret asking for that favor when she finds out the true nature of her new client.
