On tonight’s 9-1-1: Nashville episode, Ryan and Samantha are in couple’s counseling. They first started because they were on the brink of divorce. They thought counseling alone would save their marriage and they forgot they both needed to put forth an effort.
They haven’t been intimate in months. They missed several of their date nights. If he wasn’t caught at work, she was working. They barely saw each other.
They were still doing great things for the other. Ryan set up a zoo date for Sam that he had to miss because of work. She set up board games that often one or the other has to miss because of work. And so their therapist told them they needed a vacation.
Some place far away from work. A place they couldn’t respond to texts even if they wanted to far. The couple were thinking about it when a case at work put things in perspective.
Ryan and the ambulance were called to an office because a woman wasn’t responding or opening her door. The woman’s name is Edith. Edith lived for work. She didn’t get married. She didn’t have kids. She kept saying she’d go to Knoxville one day after tax season and she never did. She stayed at work to the point she died at her desk.
The sad part is no one noticed for days. She’s been dead for at least five when her co-workers got worried that she hadn’t moved from one position. She died at her desk.
Taylor’s gloves got stuck to the poor woman’s skin afterwards. Ryan was pulling them apart when Edith’s remains fell out of the swivel chair. She fell in front of the glass wall. Right in front of her coworkers. She popped like a melon. Her bodily fluids got into Ryan’s mouth. Those that saw her pop also didn’t take it well. One guy threw up. Another woman hit the glass and passed out.
The woman had a concussion. Marjorie had to be taken to the hospital where she had surgery on her brain. Concussions are no joke. Ryan still tried to make up one about the bodily fluids getting into his mouth, but eventually he got serious. He said the therapist was right about them. They needed time away from the chaos.
They needed a vacation. He suggested Knoxville because he heard about Edith’s story. It was close by. It has beautiful views. Ryan hasn’t been there since he was a kid and seeing it as an adult could be different.
Sam and Ryan went on vacation. They came up with a plan on vacation. They listed everything they wanted to do because they wanted to squeeze everything into a weekend. It wasn’t even an long weekend. It was a regular weekend. They ran into another couple there. The couple have been married for longer than they have and they acted like newlyweds. Sam and Ryan asked them what their secret was. They said they put their phones on airplane mode the whole time. They don’t let work in on their couple time.
Sam and Ryan couldn’t do that. They both frequently took work calls. When they weren’t taking calls, they downloaded a first responder’s app and tried to guess what they were responding to. It wasn’t exciting.
They didn’t do everything they planned on. They didn’t even share in any intimate moments because a timer wasn’t romantic. The couple were a dud in the romance department. Its time they realized that because they needed something to change. Else they’d be back heading for divorce soon.
Back in Nashville, Blythe threw a fundraiser for Austin Fire Department. Her big headliner pulled out at the last second so she took Blue’s suggestion. She hired Dixie to perform at the fundraiser. Dixie was a huge hit. She was a great singer with an one of kind voice.
She also still got nervous before performing so she stayed drinking booze the whole night. Blythe and Don had to bring her back to the house to put her to sleep. Blythe was tucking her in when Dixie admitted something. She admitted she lied about being on the pill that night to Don.
Dixie got pregnant on purpose. She thought he wouldn’t leave her if she got pregnant. She was wrong about that one because Don still went back to Blythe. He would always pick her and Dixie said as much to the woman. She thought Blythe was some big fake. Now, she knows better.
She knew that Blythe really was perfect because she never stopped supporting Blue even as Dixie kept them away. She also made Blue feel welcome the moment he came back into their lives. Blythe did a lot of good things she didn’t have to.
None of it was going to make her forget that Dixie tried to steal her man.
Sam and Ryan’s vacation also took a turn. The couple they met that inspired them weren’t perfect. They realized that after they took a hike and noticed the app said an emergency was called in nearby. They went there hoping to help. They found Tara on the ground after falling fifty feet. Her husband hadn’t been helping her so Ryan called it in as a possible homicide.
He also detained Kevin when he tried to run. Tara wasn’t his first wife. Kevin has been married before and his first wife died in a freak accident. It led to him getting a large payday from her life insurance. And he was hoping to repeat the same thing with Tara.
Dixie came to the next morning. She talked to Don. Don said she’s been pulling his strings for twenty years and that it stops now. She wasn’t allowed to call him anymore. She wasn’t allowed to come by his firehouse. He was done with her. They still share a son. A son he doesn’t regret. He was just done with the lies. It up to her to tell Blue the truth.
And Sam and Ryan realized what makes them hot was helping people. So, they volunteered to do some rescues missions and they’ve since been intimate twelve times between their appointments with the therapist. Something they bragged about.
