In tonights American Ninja Warrior season 18 episode 10 called, “National Finals 1” as per the NBC synopsis, “The National Finals kick off with the top 60 athletes competing in head-to-head races as they attempt to become American Ninja Warrior champion.”

In tonight’s American Ninja Warrior episode, It was finally time for the National Finals tonight. It was a two lane obstacle course. It began with Slide Surfer, Catch and Release, Swinging Peg Boards, Salmon Ladder, Cane Lane, and ended with Hourglass Drop. The first race was between legends. Daniel Gill vs RJ Roman. They were both speed demons. Though RJ seemed to have the upper hand through most of the race. He got to the obstacles before Daniel did. He was in the lead all the way until the final obstacle where he fell. It gave Daniel the opportunity was looking for. He finished the race with a buzzer. He was close to breaking Joe Moravsky’s record.
The next race was a cross sexes one. It was Jackson Erdos vs Isabella Folsom. It didn’t really seem like a competition at first because Jackson was getting ahead from the start and he was a good obstacle ahead of Isabella. Before he too fell. He was rushing. He wasn’t taking as much time or technique with the obstacles as he should’ve. Isabella ended up taking her time and she got closer to the finishing line than Jackson did. She didn’t complete the course before falling herself, but she was still moving ahead because she went further than he did.
It also put her in good standing for the Women’s Championship. Back from the commercial break, it was up to two best friends to compete against each other. They were Ryan Cooper and Nathaniel Honvou. They loved competing against each other. They did so when they got rock climbing or even when they sent up a shot obstacle. Ryan was shorter than Nathaniel. He lighter than him too. Still it had been Nathaniel leading the charge until he suffered a bad dismount that soon put him behind Ryan and so they were neck to neck for a bit till the last final moment. Ryan got to the buzzer mere seconds before Nathaniel did.
It’s okay to come in second because there were going to be more than one race of the night. RJ Roman needed a win with a second competition and unfortunately he had to compete against his mentee. He still got a buzzer. It just came at what cost. He won that race and was still in the running. Daniel Gill came back for his second competition against Isaiah “Flyboy” Thomas. Daniel tried to go too fast for the second one and it took a shocking fall. It meant he hadn’t quite overcome his friend Joe’s record. Isaiah got two wins out of three races. He was leading with his skill and that’s why he’s the Flyboy.
The next race was Ashton Myler vs Jackson Erdos. One was a Ninja Kidz member. The other was ANW Juniors and won. None of that mattered when Jackson’s foot hit the water. It accidentally touched it on the first obstacle. He was out and that was his second chance. It’s a good thing he’s got three races of the night because without that he’d been walking away with nothing. Ashton in the meantime completed the course. He got another buzzer. He actually seemed to have damaged the buzzer because he hit it so hard out of happiness.
Daniella Blanchard vs Isabella Folsom was the next race. Isabella had one win. Daniella had none. It soon lead to another neck and neck race that ended with a surprising fall. Daniella was looking good. Too good because she fell trying to keep up with Isabella. Isabella meanwhile fixed her mistake from her first round. She overcame the Hourglass Drop. She hit her first official buzzer of the night and was proving to be a formidable ninja. She’ll do well in the Women’s Championship. Something says she’ll do great there too.
Training with her husband as well as her brother-in-law was working out better than training with her brother. The next race had Nathaniel Honvou up against Nam Phan for the next race. Only it wasn’t a race. Nathaniel remained an obstacle ahead through most of it and he easily won his first buzzer of the night. Nam fell. He still had one more race afterwards so it wasn’t a total loss. Nathaniel was also still in the fight with his best bud. Their third race will determine who moves forward. Both only had one win to them at that point.
Grace Gordon vs. Daniel Gill was the battle that determined Daniel’s fate. He needed to win a second one to beat out RJ. Yet, he faced the same problem that RJ once did. He found himself competing against the same young lady he helped train. Grace lost to RJ. She tried going faster with Daniel and it almost worked for her. Daniel fell. He fell on the last obstacle. It had been Grace’s race to lose and sadly that’s exactly what happened. She fell on the same darn thing as Daniel did. Daniel got the win in spite not getting the buzzer. It put him second to the Flyboy himself.
Isabella Folsom vs Ashton Myler was the next race. Ashton was moving so fast that he made a crucial mistake on the last obstacle and fell right before the buzzer. It allowed Isabella who took her time to become the first undefeated female ninja ever to hit all three buzzers at this stage. She set a record. It was now up to everyone coming up to defeat it. Nex up was a race between Jackson Erdos and Daniella Blanchard. This one meant the world to Jackson because he could still advance if he pushed hard enough.
He needed a win. It had to be a fast win to beat out RJ Roman. So, Jackson gave it his all. he learned from his mistakes. He moved faster than he ever had before. He managed to scrape together a win with his back against the wall. He hit a buzzer. He was advancing while RJ was out. It was true when they said anything could happen. That goes for the new groups as well. The first race of the new group was Anabella Heinrichs vs Noah Meunier. Noah has come close to winning the season several times. He was ready to finally get it and even Annabella thought he’d get it.
Then the favorite word of the night came up. The word “until”. Noah was doing well until he fell on Hourglass Drop. Anabella was doing well until she fell on the same obstacle as Noah. Noah got the win because he got there faster than Anabella. There was still going to be a feeling to get the buzzer next time. That race was followed by the closest race the audience has seen since the start of the night. It was a race between Kaden Lebsack and Phil Folsom. They were seconds within each other. Phil was a rookie and Kaden was a veteran. None of which mattered when Phil beat Kaden.
It was such a shocker that stunned everyone. Though it was nice that they still shook hands afterwards. Colt Elder vs Bob Reese was another interesting race. It was the farmer against the daredevil. The daredevil managed to pull off an impressive flip on the very first obstacle. He did that thinking that there was no way he’d move forward. He was an obstacle behind the farmer yet the farmer took a tumble. He fell. Bob kept going. He surpassed him on the course. He then did a flip on literally the hardest obstacle of the night – the Hourglass Drop. And still hit a buzzer at the end.
Bob had nothing to lose on the course. It’s kinda funny that his toddler son slept through all of it. Simeon Serrano vs Anabella Heinrichs was the next race. Simeon was a rookie. Only Anabella was making a comeback after a tough few seasons. Simeon took a fall while Anabella learned where she made a mistake the last time and overcame them. She moved past Hourglass Drop. She went on to hit her first buzzer of the night. It was a good and straightforward race which was more than could be said of the next one.
Kaden Lebsack was going up against Bob Reese. They started out on equal footing. Bob didn’t try to slow himself down. Its odd in the sense because it just stopped. Bob stopped on the Beehive. He didn’t seek to get the better of it even though he did it with his first race. He practically let Kaden have that win. Kaden was so stunned that he hit the buzzer and turned back to see what happened to Bob. Bob ended up falling on that obstacle once he tried to move that is. It was perhaps the oddest thing they’d ever seen and Kaden was going to want a rematch later down the road.
Two friends were competing once more with Nacssa Garemore vs Enzo DeFerrari Wilson race. They were speed demons. They were on each other with most of the obstacles until the dismount where Nacssa pulled out ahead. He finished the course with the fastest time so far. Enzo also finished with the second fastest time. Nacssa would go on to remain undefeated in all three races of his tonight. Bob Reese was in the running for the Wild Card because he won one race. The same went for Anabella Heinrichs. Enzo got to pull off several interesting moves and truthfully that’s what he most wanted.
The final race was between Colt Elder and Kaden Lebsack. Colt was surprisingly in the lead for the longest before Kaden managed to pull off his dismount a little smoother. Kaden got to the buzzer first. And Colt was out of luck.
