On tonight’s America’s Got Talent episode, it was Night 5 of the Auditions. Up first was Barrio Dance. They were a dance group from Wisconsin. They were a large diverse group and they danced to the best of the best – Queen! Howie didn’t appreciate it. Sofia did. Simon at least said their energy was infectious and that’s why he enjoyed it so much. Mel disagreed with Howie too. She voted yes. Sofia voted yes. It was down to Simon and he chose to go with his gut. He gave them the yes they needed to pass into the next round. Howie was just being a Grinch. A Christmas in July Grinch.

Next up was a giant clown. He wore a giant clown costume that looked straight out of the muppets. He didn’t talk. He didn’t explain his actions. He let the mystique build and it resulted in a sad sack of a performance to begin with. Both Mel and Sofia pressed their reject button when they thought it wasn’t going anywhere only for the clown to suddenly disappear and reappear before his balloon touched the ground. The guys found it funny. The women still thought it was dumb. The clown wasn’t advancing.

He was then followed by Vahtang. Vahtang was from the country of Georgia. He had an interpreter, but he spoke English really well. He also sang and beatbox like he’s been doing it all his life. He performed “Black Betty”. He had the judges feeling this one. Mel especially seemed to love it. Vahtang was a one man band pretty much. Simon called it a surprise in a very good way. Mel gave him his first yes with Sofia, Simon, and Howie all giving yesses as well. He helped them forget whatever the clown was doing.

Vahtang was soon followed by a close up magician named Kameron Marshall. He did card tricks. He pulled off a great trick and it wasn’t good enough for Simon. Simon said he doesn’t know where he could go next with that trick. Even Howie told him he needed to present his magic in a way that’s a little bigger. Maybe what Howie said was enough for Simon because he did a reversal. He said yes. The other judges gave yesses too. Kameron was moving onto the next round and so there is a place for magic this season.

Not sure if it helped the next guy or made him more anxious. Next up was Darrell Moten. He also does magic and this was his first live performance. He usually just does magic online from his parents’ attic. He pulled off a huge trick and it had seemed like a bomb until he came back with a video. He left the producers stumped. They thought he bombed so bad that he ran off the stage. He still pulled off an impressive save with a prerecorded message. He pulled off a huge trick. It was just Mel who didn’t get it.

Mel gave a no. She was still left pretty confused. Simon said yes and he’s the one that got played. He found it interesting and no one else has ever done it. Darrell will be moving on because there was a place for him on that stage. He just needed to convince Mel of it. She will be the trickier one going forward. He has to convince her like he did with everyone else. Nene was next. She’s from Thailand. She was fifteen years old. The youngest so far into the episode and a rocker at heart. She brought out the guitar and everything.

Nene played a classic. She played “Zombie” by The Cranberries. Her rocker voice came as the surprise. It was a little too messy for Simon and Mel. They think she still needed to work on vocal control. Otherwise it was a stellar performance. She showed a lot of potential and in that they agreed with the other judges. They all gave her four yesses. Nene was going place with her stage presence. Next up was Royal Lasers. They were a Laser dance group. They came out onto a darken stage where they lit up costumes put on a show.

It was pretty great. It was so great that Terry didn’t wait to hear from the judges. He said this dance group gave lasers, monsters, and actual fire. They fully deserved his Golden Buzzer. They were going into the next round with that Golden Halo. They were soon followed by the Jesse White Tumbling Team. Their founder was Jesse White himself. He’s since retired but his legacy lives on. The group didn’t do anything fancy and they were still flying through the air without harness and even the babies of the group were unstoppable.

They really were flying through the air or in their case tumbling. They got the audience on their feet. They had everyone enthusiastically applauding and the judges gave them a standing ovation. That more than anything else speaks of how good they are. Naturally, they got four yesses. They were other acts and unfortunately the judges determined they were decent just not great enough to give a yes to. Simon was really hard on the singers. Next up was one of those. Travis Garland performed “Dream On”.

His voice if not his face was very recognizable. His voice was well-seasoned. It doesn’t matter if it was too theatrical for Howie. It was showmanship. Even Simon wasn’t hating on the guy as much as Howie and that’s in spite of him taking his glasses off had bugged the hell out of him. His words. Travis still showed talent. Howie was a no. The ladies gave a yes so it came down to Simon and he saw the potential to go further so he said yes too.

Next up was Abraham Molla. He was from Ethiopia. He was hoping to find a place for his act. Some might consider him a tumbler as well because it was a miracle didn’t fall off the tower he was balancing on cylinder with. He went higher than anyone before. It just didn’t impress Simon. Simon was underwhelmed and he said as much. The others disagreed. They knew Abraham was fully in control as he kept getting higher and that there was no chance plus no harness that could stop him. Its why he’s now moving onto the next round with three yesses.

Abraham was followed by Daniel Alvzarez. He goes Uber to pay for his stand up comedy. He used those words and wasn’t sure if he was poking fun at himself for being in a wheelchair or not. It got clearer later on because that time he really was mocking himself. He made a joke out of getting shot at a Halloween party. He was funny. He was sarcastic. He was just the right amount of naughty that both Howie and Simon could agree on. He got four yesses and gave everyone a chance to laugh before they introduced to a slew of bad acts that followed him.

One duo even made up a song about the Golden Buzzer that was so dumb. It got a reject from Mel. Sofia backed her up. The song wasn’t so bad that it was good. It was just plain bad. There will be no standby for those two. It technically doesn’t matter if they created an earworm that affected the whole audience. The judges didn’t give them enough yesses to advance.

And that was it for the night.

THE END!
