In tonight’s America’s Got Talent recap it was Night 2 of the Quarterfinals! Simon Cowell wasn’t there. He was having a much needed operation. His accident from several years ago was still bothering him and the operation would finally help him heal from it. Luck Be With Him! But the other three judges kept up the energy in his absence.

Mel B has the Golden Buzzer tonight. The first act of the night was LaRussell. LaRussell put together a great choir and there were some complaints that he didn’t let them do their thing. He did his rapping. And that could’ve been a stellar intro.

There had just been some issues with it. It was no one else’s fault. The energy was off and Mel B said as much. They all took it well and afterwards there was a moving tribute to now the late but forever great, Dolly Parton. Dolly’s family revealed she passed away earlier today. People were going to need a minute. This goes for Terry Crews as well. There wasn’t a single person who didn’t love her. She was a delight and will be missed. The show had to move on because there were more performances. The second act of the night being Veronica.

Veronica was the aerialist that won Sofia’s Golden Buzzer during the Auditions. She truly had a great audition. There was just one problem with it was that she did pretty much everything and so no one knew how she could top herself. The Ukrainian added a blindfold tonight. She had a drop that could have crippled her if not killed her. She survived because she proved she could do anything up in the air. The additional level of danger can’t be spoken of enough. It really made her stand out and that’s exactly what she needed before America votes.

Now, the third act was Bety Proud. Bety performed Sam Smith’s “Fire On Fire”. She has a great voice and it couldn’t be heard because she played it a little too safe for some. Mel had to tell her this because she needed to be bolder. Also, let’s be honest. Simon being there would’ve been a lot more brutal than Mel. It was a bit of a come down. Sofia disagreed with Mel’s assessment. She felt that Bety did really well though it is telling that Howie didn’t give much comment. He could sometimes be as brutal as Simon and Mel.

The next act was a dance group Come Here. They were practicing five hours before their final performance tonight. They kept adding new things that it could’ve been very disastrous for them and instead it was the best performance of the night. They got a resounding standing ovation from both the audience and the judges. That alone said that even if America somehow forgets to vote for them – they’ll be back for All-Stars. Howie would bring it about if nothing else because that man loves a dance group.

They were followed by the brothers. Nyjah Music and Zyah Rhythm. They were a little nervous during their auditions. Simon gave them the boost they needed and they came back stronger during the Callbacks. The brothers were only a year apart. They grew up singing together. Reading into each other’s vibes, moods, triumphs, and mistakes. It resulted in a sweet rendition of “I Swear”. Two Spanish kids covering R&B was a bold choice. It also didn’t work for everyone. Mel pressed her reject button. She felt they were weaker tonight than they were before.

Howie said it a little more nicely than the reject button. He felt Simon had given them great advice that they forgot perhaps in their inexperience. They were still young. Mel told them everything that went wrong. The crowd booed her yet she wasn’t wrong. It hadn’t been worthy of a live performance. Next up was Geno Ploeger. The magician was back with his cards and he could go far with magic. It was just hard to follow a magical act from a television screen.

ards trick was best in person. It was still good. It was perhaps better with a live show and there shouldn’t be so much explanation in the aftermath. The act should speak for itself. He was followed by Patrox. Patrox came all the way from Germany. Yeah, this delghtful German has mastered something never seen before on AGT. He was a dancer and he was a solo dancer. Those are normally the worst or joke performances. The same couldn’t be said of Patrox. He was dancing. He was just dancing backwards.

Sofia doesn’t fully understand it until she watches it back. Mel just doesn’t understand it at all. Nor does she seem to want to. She doesn’t get it and not even Howie explaining it to her will help so Patrox didn’t let her dim his light. Good For You! Patrox was then followed by Nene Royal. The rocker has become a social media sensation. There were people from all around the world calling her a true rocker. They said it because it was true. Nene was so young and so talented. It was everything.

From her guitar skills to her voice. She performed “Black Hole Sun” tonight. She did it true justice. Howie loved it so much that he told NBC to just give Nene the million dollars from now. Mel then started talking. People were so worried it would be bad that they started booing and it wasn’t bad. It wasn’t bad in the slightest. Mel just wanted said how impressed she remains of her Nene and she proved it by pressing the Golden Buzzer.

Congratulations, Nene! Mackenzie was up next. The singer first performed in front of Simon when he was a little boy. His journey would always have led to AGT. It such a shame that Simon missed his performance. It definitely stood out with the audience. It didn’t seem to resonate with Howie though. Howie kept talking throughout the performance. He didn’t seem won over until right up to the end when Mackenzie just broke. He performed “You Broke Me First” and everyone who hears that performance could feel the heartache.

Mel couldn’t help standing up for him because everything about that had been perfect. Sofia also enjoyed it. Notably neither she nor Howie had given him a standing ovation like Mel did. They hadn’t been enjoying it and they didn’t say anything because they didn’t want to get booed. Now, the next act wasn’t advisable for children. Rememeber the guy whose wife nailed a wooden board to his face. They’re back and just as scary. Brad and Tracy. They seemed like such nice people until their act gets started.

They brought out a chainsaw tonight. They were the craziest kids on the block. Mel pressed her rejection button and Howie pressed his while she was later explaining why. It was slightly. Slightly a crime. It was still good tv. The final performance of the night went to Butter & Grit. They were a Country band. He was Butter. She was Grit. They weren’t together. They were just good friends. They’ve also improved a lot since their auditions. They went back to Cracker Barrel for something to eat. And it helped them put on their best performance so far.

Their future was looking bright on AGT.

It was also a nice way to end the episode after saying such beautiful words about Dolly earlier.

THE END!
