In tonight’s Brilliant Minds episode, Wolf was putting his patient’s files in order before he took off. He wanted to go on vacation. He was heading to Mexico because that’s what the new him did.

The new him goes on vacation. The new him hosts dinner parties. He was doing his best to change for the better and he was telling Josh as much when they got interrupted.

Josh’s family had come to the hospital. His father has taken to wandering again. His dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s months ago. And his condition seemed to be worsening faster than normal.

Josh wasn’t around to check for himself. His relationship with his father was complicated. His dad wanted him to be straight and Josh was gay. He came out to his family a long time ago. Yet, his father has long pretended it never happened. He doesn’t even remember now that he’s sick.

He said that Josh shouldn’t take on the position of new Chief of the Hospital because he should really be settling down with a nice girl. He wanted grandchildren. Josh couldn’t deal with him when he’s like that. He chose to instead hire nurses.

These same nurses keep quitting on them because of the dad, Duke. He gets confused and often aggressive. Anything could set Duke off. He got mad at his wife because he wanted to go home. She tried to tell him several times that they were indeed at home. He refused to believe her.

He also wandered off after his daughter Serena started yelling at Josh for something needing to be done about Duke. Duke meanwhile wandered over to the fire alarm where he saw his own reflection in the glass. He punched it because he wanted the other person to stop staring at him.

Wolf treated his hand. He also agreed to take him on as a patient as they determined why he was deteriorating so fast. Wolf was hoping it might be another symptom that could be reversible. He wanted to give Josh some good news, but not every story has a happy ending.

Wolf finally met his half-sister tonight. Margot came to his office to tell him that their father had passed away. She wanted to tell him in person and she also asked for his help to clear out their dad’s stuff. She just found out about his place up in New York.

Wolf agreed to assist her. He hadn’t wanted to leave Margot to face things alone. He agreed to help her and he tried to help Josh as well. Duke later mistakenly believed Josh was his own dad. He hugged him. He called him dad. Wolf tried to warn Josh to go along with it and Josh just couldn’t do that.

He never had an open honest conversation with his dad his whole life. He was now worried that he would never get his father to accept him or even be happy for him and so he refused to go along with his condition.

Only Wolf determined that the best way to connect with Duke by going down memory lane. He can’t form new memories. The most he could do was remember the past and so immersive therapy or entering his delusion with him can actually help him. He’d become less aggressive.

He’d stopped trying to escape. It turns out he kept asking to go home because he was talking about baseball. The numbers he kept repeating where his baseball stats. Wolf call in a few favors. He got the hospital staff to join as well. They recreated the baseball field for Duke.

Duke loved it. It gave him the chance to reconnect with his family. They haven’t seen him that happy in a long time. It also gave Wolf a chance to make a grand gesture. He found out that Josh and Beau broke up. Beau had proposed. Josh turned him down.

Wolf found out about it when he called Beau to get his help on how to convince Josh of immersive therapy. Beau was a lot nicer than he could’ve been. He did throw one parting shot. He said he didn’t know which of them was the rebound. And that the first time he broke up with Josh was because he couldn’t offer Josh what he needed.

The only thing asked of Wolf was that he didn’t hurt Josh a second time.

The baseball game was a huge success. Duke was actually pretty great player. He talked to Josh about his loved life and he seemed to have finally accepted his son was gay. Josh will always have that. He will also know that Wolf gave him that. Josh heard about Wolf’s dad and he finally made his move.

The two are back together. Hopefully, they won’t struggle with work/private life balance like Carol did with Anthony. Anthony had a patient come in who needed surgery, but he was refusing treatment because he said he saw his father struggle for years afterwards.

Anthony went behind the patient’s and Carol’s back to rule him as having diminished capacity. The patient got the surgery and the doctors became his alibi when his wife was found dead in the trunk of his car.

He may have killed her for giving the doctors her permission for surgery. And this might be on Anthony.

Carol went to Mexico with Wolf and Josh who were now officially a couple again, but everyone else later passed out at their hotel and the doctors were needed to treat them.

And Ericka introduced herself to her biological mother and got rejected. It’s a good thing her friends went with her because they comforted her afterwards.
