In tonight’s Chicago Med episode, Dr. John Frost has become interested in a paramedic. Her name is Lizzy Novak. She didn’t make things easy for him and so he was definitely interested in something more than a fling. He even walked out to her ambulance when she brought a patient in.

The patient was a college student named Kristen Thompson. Kristen was a basketball player and she suffered an injury during practice. She thought it could be her ACL. She was super worried because scouts were coming to her next game. She wanted to play no matter what, but somehow she began to OD right there in the ED.

Kristen was given pain medication in the ambulance. Novak administered fentanyl. She knew what she was doing when she did it. Its not like it’s the first time for her and so she was mystified how this could’ve happened.

Did she make a mistake? Novak had just agreed to go grab donuts at a new place with Frost when Kristen began having problems breathing. It goes without saying that Novak and her partner for that matter will have to be investigated to see if a mistake occurred on their end. And if it did, what will happen with donuts?

Kristen had a cold. She technically still has one. She went to campus health for it. She was given codeine. The medication can turn into morphine in the system and she might have taken some that morning. She had a lingering cough. She was pushing through it to get ready for the scouts though certain things need time.

They also still need to question her about how much medication she took. She OD’d for a reason. Dr. Archer was pulled in to assist and he wasn’t needed around the ED as much now that Dr. Lenox has returned.

Dr. Lenox was put on two week vacation after she helped a battered wife escape her husband. She broke a few rules to do it and that made her vacation very mandatory.

Notice how Ripley’s vacation hadn’t been mandatory. He returned to work even earlier than she did. He was also less crabby than she was. It was true of every other day so not much has changed there and that’s in spite of Ripley wanting it to change. He hasn’t dated much since his breakup. He broke up with her because he loves her, he just wasn’t in love with her and she could tell.

Ripley was still getting over Dr. Asher so maybe he shouldn’t date another coworker. It’s a probably a good thing that Dr. Lenox didn’t realize he wanted to trauma bond with her.

She was more focused on her patient. She was treating Olivia. Olivia was pregnant with two infants. One was her best friend’s. She was acting as a surrogate and somehow her body got pregnant a second time while already pregnant with the first infant. The second infant was therefore her baby. The one she had with her on again and off again boyfriend.

The second infant was in danger. She has a cyst growing on her lungs. It could jeopardize the baby. The same goes for the first infant because the procedure might put both children at risk.

There was only one option – surgery. Asher was going to be performing it with Lenox’s assistance. They were doing that as Sharon was contending with a spiteful daughter. No, not her own. She was dealing with Ruth’s daughter. Ruth was an Alzheimer’s patient who came in after she fell. She broke her hip. She needed surgery and her adult daughter wanted to put that off.

She was willing send Ruth back to the nursing home in pain because she has a vacation coming up. She didn’t have time to deal with all the paperwork and the doctors. The doctors called in Sharon because they thought the daughter was being cruel when she wasn’t. She was merely done. Ruth wasn’t always the sweet old lady.

She was a mean drunk that physically, verbally, and emotionally abused her daughter. The woman grew up to be nothing like her. She was a good mother. She was a great grandmother. Where she messed up was that she shouldn’t have taken on the responsibility of taking care of her mom if she was indifferent to her pain.

Ruth’s daughter signed what she needed for the doctors to take over her mother’s care. She couldn’t forgive the woman nor should be expected to. The doctors handled everything like the daughter wanted and Sharon found a nurse for her new program. She chose Tameika from the nursing home.

She was also the woman that took such great care of Bert towards the end. There had been a board member that recommended her own nephew only he didn’t want to be a nurse. He wanted to be a photographer. He admitted his secret desires to Sharon.

Colton’s nephew wasn’t happy that a black person got the job over him, but Sharon didn’t dignify the racism with a fight.

Novak also didn’t make a mistake. Kristen has a condition that makes her absorb medicine faster than it should normally happen. Novak didn’t make a mistake. Neither did the doctors. Kristen did tear her ACL and so she was going to be out of the the game for a while. Frost arranged for her to meet an idol.

A pro basketball player that came back from a torn ACL as a means of motivating Kristen. He did that then he went on his date with Novak. Which went well. He tried to warn Ripley that he was bringing someone home and Ripley didn’t get the message because he was sleeping with Lenox in the supply closet.

Olivia’s baby didn’t make it by the way. Her best friend broke the news to her and the baby she was acting as a surrogate for had survived.

THE END!
