In tonight’s Chicago Med episode, it was St. Patrick’s Day in Chicago! It was the busiest day in the ED. Some hospitals only had to worry about New Year’s Eve and so Chicago was special. They just didn’t always feel that way. They hated the big days. There was so much foot traffic that they often had to send patients to different hospitals just to get everyone treated.
The first person to kick off the holiday spirit was Emily. Emily has schizophrenia. She’s been at a psych hospital for over twenty years. She therefore wasn’t drinking this holiday. She did on the other hand create a makeshift shiv. She used it on herself thankfully rather than the orderlies.
Emily thinks there’s parasites living under her skin. She thought stabbing herself would get the itching to stop. She has a nasty rash all over her back and face. Probably from all the scratching. Dr. Frost was treating the rash. Dr. Charles was treating her mental state. Emily was just the start of the day.
There was also two people dressed as Ferris Bueller and Cameron. They were huge fans of the movie. One guy had it on his bucket list to perform in the parade like the movie. He has brain cancer and was allegedly dying.
Notice the allegedly because he didn’t want to do any testing. It also was odd that he survived over a year and half so far with this cancer that was end stage. The doctors still had to treat his concussion and so they ran a slew of tests on him. It was they were waiting for the results that more patients began coming in.
This included a man who jumped into the river after it had been turned green. He was super drunk. He was wondering around naked. He even vomited right in the center of the ED because he wanted to tell Dr. Ripley a dirty limerick he remembered.
Dr. Ripley was fending him off just as much as he was hiding from Dr. Lenox. Whatever those two doctors have going is still going. They’ve been sleeping with each other in every available place.
There was no supply closet or back of the ambulance safe from them. Though the last one was now known by Dr. Archer because he overheard the paramedic trying to return Lenox’s underwear to her. Lenox tried to pretend that the undies weren’t hers. She fooled no one. Her hospital badge was found near the underwear so it kinda point to her.
Emily also learned she might’ve been misdiagnosed. She might not have schizophrenia. She has Lupus. It was the meds for schizophrenia that was causing some of the issues. Along with the Lupus. She was actually reacting a lot better now that she has prednisone in her system.
She was thanking the doctors. She wasn’t trying to stab anyone or herself anymore. She was returning to the woman she used to be. It turns out her mom left when she tried to stab the mom’s boyfriend because she thought his myspace page was sending evil messages into her mind.
The boyfriend left. The mom left with him. It was suddenly up the younger sister to take of both her as well as a younger brother and she had to so at fourteen.
Emily was currently under conservatorship held by her sister. Her sister makes all medical decisions. It will be up to her sister to decide if she could leave the psychiatric hospital. Dr. Charles later spoke with the woman. He did his best to reassure her that if Emily was deemed sane that she would be safe to live alone. It Dr. Frost who planted doubt.
Frost was just coming off of visiting his own parents. They tend to look at the past through rose colored glasses. They remembered taking him to the beach and they claimed it was his idea. It wasn’t. They took him to the beach during a contract negotiation.
He pulled out so much hair that it gave him a bald patch that the studio had to cover up. The rest of the cast hated him for the “stunt” his parents pulled. They don’t remember any of that and he remembers all of it. Frost realized he was holding on too tight to his anger.
He reopened the door. He wasn’t entirely sure if he regretted it or not. He tried to express that to Emily’s sister once Dr. Charles reminded him that their patient was Emily.
Not Paige. Emily was the one that needed an advocate. She’s been locked away for twenty years on what doctors should’ve realized was a false diagnosis.
Charles was angry on her behalf. He wanted her to finally start living. Frost should want that for her as well. The cancer patient in the meantime didn’t have cancer. He was in remission for the last year. He just kept lying about it because he always struggled to make friends until he was diagnosed.
He never told his friend. The Ferris Bueller to his Cameron. His friend died from his injury so Tim blamed himself and he tried to kill himself. They stopped him. They told him there was still hope. Dr. Archer had been harsh on him when he first realized he was lying. Now, he just wants Tim to find peace.
It also made Dr. Lenox realized she’s been chasing adrenaline for a while now. She came forward with Sharon about her relationship with Ripley. And then went on to sleep with Ripley in the elevator.
This happened right after they were warned not do so on hospital property.
Dr. Asher had a pregnant patient who had sexomnia. She was going through a divorce and she took patient to help her sleep. Well, she was sleepwalking in her sleep.
She was still sharing the house with her ex-husband. They now might try to make things work again because its not like they ever stopped loving each other. They also tried to have a child for years so this pregnancy could be taken as a sign.
And Frost went back to his parents now that Paige went to see Emily. He agreed to take a road trip with them and time will tell if he regrets that too.
