In tonight’s Chicago Med episode, Dr. Jonathan Frost was a good person. His parents were not good people. They wrecked his life in more ways than one. Yet, they needed him right now.
His father was diagnosed with a spinal mass. Frost put aside his grievances to be there for him and his mother who has been dealing with a sick spouse alone. Frost was talking about going back into acting to cover his father’s medical bills. He was even willing to place himself near his abuser if it meant his father still got to take the experimental treatment.
Not that his father seemed grateful. He wanted a miracle cure. He wanted the mass to be gone. He wanted to regain full functionality and all of that could’ve happened if he had only went to his son earlier in his diagnosis. He was so worried about the possibility that he tried to pretend it wasn’t there.
It made him miss a critical window to enter a clinic at the Mayo. He doesn’t get to complain now and Frost was too kind to tell him to shove it. These parents were the same ones who racked up bills in his name and tanked his credit score so they were horrible people.
They don’t stop being horrible just because they spent all the money they stole from him. Frost met with he person pushing for the reboot. He thought he was going to be him and his good friend coming back from the original cast. It turns out Ainsley also wanted to come back. She played his best friend’s mother on the tv show.
She was now going to play grandmother in the reboot. Only Frost didn’t want her around children or himself. He quickly excused himself from the lunch. He might also be rethinking the reboot if it brings back ugly memories.
Ian could see that Frost was wavering. He talked to him after the lunch. He finally found out what Ainsley did all those years ago. He now knows that nothing will compel Frost to work with Ainsley again.
It wasn’t the money. It was the fact that he couldn’t face his abuser. Then he returned to the hospital and had to do it anyways with his parents. What he needed was some therapy. Dr. Charles simply wasn’t in the right mind to provide any. He still had Dr. Rabiri breathing down his neck with changes he wanted to make to Charles’s department.
Rabari also couldn’t help nagging Charles when he found a weakness. There was a patient that came in that Charles was familiar with. She was on the heart transplant list and Charles got her off it. She came close to receiving when she tried to kill herself with her medication. She also was a former addict. Both those things worked against her. Charles had to make the call if was mentally prepared for a transplant or if it would be a waste. He determined it would be a waste. The woman passed away on tonight’s episode.
It was hard enough on Charles that he witnessed it. He didn’t need anyone needling him for sport. Especially once Rabari claimed that an fMRI would’ve been better if it had been used. The test couldn’t take over for a real person. The woman whether she liked it or not needed a doctor to tell her she’d be wasting that heart. She convinced herself she was cursed. There was nothing Charles could say or give her that would fix her suicidal tendencies. She needed time. It was clear she never had that tonight.
Charles couldn’t be there for that patient. He could be there for Asher. Asher had a tough case. Her pregnant patient came in and the baby had a teratoma. She was scheduled for a c-section at the Mayo.
They instead brought the doctor to Chicago because Giselle was in labor. Asher was so freaked out by the EXIT procedure that Giselle needed that she nearly choked in the delivery room. They were able to save both mother and baby. It just made Asher realized she freaked because she never talked to her own dad about her mother dying in childbirth with her.
She spoke to Charles. She finally realized she needed to speak to her dad. She always felt like he blamed her for her mom’s death. Otherwise why else couldn’t he look at her for long?
The old man apologized if he made her feel that way, but it was far from the truth. She was like her mother in so many ways that it was hard to look at her. He still ultimately loved her and will always love her. Asher finally understood that tonight. Dr. Charles also found out that Rabari was coming for his job because he flagged his fMRI like it could do the work of real physicians.
Dr. Ripley in the meantime learned that Dr. Lenox did test positive for prion disease. She just hasn’t told anyone she has. He figured it out after her brother came in with a patient and he realized why she lied to Kip.
She didn’t want to worry her brother that he might lose her the same way they lost their mom. He later confronted her at her place. She kicked him out. She refused to admit that she has the disease.
Dr. Frost also told his father why he couldn’t do the reboot. It turns out his father already knew about the sexual abuse. He knew all along even when it was happening. He never said anything because he didn’t want to risk his cash cow. Which was that tv show and so he really is a monster.
THE END!
