In tonight’s Chicago Med episode, Oh, Doris! What did you do? The chief nurse of the ED confessed to Sharon that she released a former doctor’s private medical file. There can be no justification for it. It didn’t even matter if she did so by accident because no one would believe it. Dr. Rabari’s file was still released.
He was in a dispute with Dr. Charles at the time. They were fighting over who’d get to work in the ED. Doris was friends with Dr. Charles as was Sharon. It’s why Sharon was considered as a suspect in the release of someone’s medical records in the first place. They thought she was trying to help Charles. They never once looked at Doris.
Nurses often get overlooked by the board members. They know everything. They can do everything. It just doesn’t get them the respect they deserved and Doris’s mistake had unintended consequences on tonight’s episode. The good news is that she wants to come forward. She leaked the file.
She printed it out. She sent it to Miranda’s office. The only way she gained access to it was because Sharon was considering leaking it herself. Sharon had the file pulled up on the computer and Doris stopped by her office. That’s when she saw the file on the computer.
Sharon brought in her son the lawyer. She asked him what they should do. Technically, Miranda had no proof of Sharon’s involvement or what Doris did. She was coming after Sharon for another reason. Miranda tried to get her nephew a job at the hospital. It didn’t work out and the young man pursued his actual dream of becoming an artist.
Miranda has been hateful ever since. She was especially mad that Sharon hired young black woman over her supposedly more qualified nephew. Miranda nearly brought up race with the implication that Sharon was looking after her own kind.
Sharon chose to ignore that statement. She would go on to save Miranda’s life. She thought everything was good again until this matter popped up. Doris wanted to come forward.
Sharon didn’t want her to because she was worried Doris wouldn’t be able to find another job with this on her record. Sharon was hoping to ride out whatever Miranda was planning. Her David had to wake her up to the truth. She might not be able to hold onto her job and if she chose to fight – this becomes a legal issue.
The board as well as its lawyers would be forced to speak to everyone. They’d get around to Doris. Doris who was feeling so guilty would crack under the pressure and it might still result in Miranda burning down everything Sharon built.
Sharon can retire. There’s no shame in that. She could spend more time with her grandchildren and not have to worry about the hospital. The problem lies in that Miranda’s direction for the hospital was already causing problems. Dr. Archer has complained about it frequently.
Archer was butting heads with new management as he tried to keep the ED running. They had three kids come in after they went subway surfing. Its what they call it when they ride on top of the subway cars.
The kids suffered a nasty fall. One of them died on the operating the table. His younger brother was feeling guilty and he was supposed to be to the ICU because of his own injurers. He instead ended up in an overcrowded room full of patients and not enough nurses. The ED didn’t necessarily get the help it deserved. Management merely started a second treatment waiting room upstairs.
It was borderline medical malpractice. Christian Goodland just lost his brother. He couldn’t lose his leg as well and part of being in the ICU was to receive specialized care.
He’s been without it for so long that he might lose a leg. Archer and Dr. Frost were doing everything they could. They just never knew about the new overflow room. Chrisitan was finally sent to where he belonged. He went to the ICU. He had to have surgery on his heart because her suffered an aorta tear. His dad stopped by the hospital. He was told not to upset Christian by telling his brother was dead.
Only Christian brought up Nolan. He couldn’t wait to make it up to his brother. His father didn’t lie. It was simply written on his face and Christian’s heartrate spiked right before the surgery.
Frost had to watch a kid fall apart. He loved his specialty. He’s there for kids like how he wishes someone had been there for him. It was days like this however that pushed him to his limit. He was already teetering on edge after his breakup with Naomi. Dr. Ripley had to tell him about violating the roommate code by showing with women right before they both had to get ready for work.
Ripley’s day hadn’t been easy either. He treated a mother who was going through a nasty custody battle with her ex. She gained forty pounds in three months.
She also has a tear in her esophagus that needed a minor procedure to fix it. Ripley couldn’t understand what was wrong until he spoke to the patient’s son. Her son had called 911 after his mom began vomiting blood. He was only five. Ripley commended him on stepping up and the little boy revealed that his mother trained him to do it.
It reminded Ripley of his own childhood. He was trained to call 911 by his own mother. She was an addict. She was worried about OD’ing. She trained Ripley to call for help in case that happens. Ellen did the same with her boy. She was an alcoholic. She got cleaned once she became pregnant.
She did everything properly. Then came the divorce. She was stressed and she heard that GLP-1 could help her. She intentionally gained weight and binged eat because she couldn’t afford to come out of pocket to pay for the medication. All of her money was going towards her lawyer in the custody fight.
Dr. Charles understood her concern. He did prescribe the GLP-1. He also told her that she couldn’t keep binge eating nor could she put herself in danger to get around her insurance.
She was still going to get help. It calmed Ripley. Then the hospital was rocked by Sharon’s resignation. She took Miranda’s deal. Not that Miranda looked too pleased to have won. Doris was feeling super guilty after that one. Dr. Asher was also feeling guilty because she tried to keep an upbeat attitude with her patients. And it led to one overestimating her position.
Asher had to use leeches to treat a patient after she refused surgery. Samara was a teenager. She refused surgery once it became clear she might be left paralyzed. She was an adrenaline junkie.
Its what led to her subway surfing. Asher tried calling Samara’s mother. The mother came down and said she’s had enough of Samara’s actions. She loves her. She just can’t put up with anymore of her chasing that high. She walked away. Asher then had to be there for Samara and get the young woman to finally see she needs help.
And Sharon gave up her job so that she could become a charge nurse under the new regime. She was going to tear it apart from the inside and protect both Doris and Gaffney. She let Doris in on some of it.
THE END!
