In tonight’s Chicago Med episode, Sharon resigned as Executive Director effective immediately. She did it so that she could lead the resistance. She became a charge nurse. She was going to use her new position to get information on the ground. Yet, it wasn’t long before Miranda found out about the new job.
Miranda has it out for her. It had to be more than just her nephew not getting the job at this point and she told Sharon that she couldn’t work at the hospital. She even threatened to fire a nurse because she didn’t need the board’s approval for it. The funny thing is that she can’t fire Sharon. Sharon’s resignation only restricts her from working in an administrative capacity at the hospital.
It doesn’t stop her from being a nurse. Plus, she couldn’t be fired as a nurse without cause. Miranda’s hands were tied and that’s when a new resident began making things difficult for Sharon. Dr. Annabelle Wu was all “call me, Annie” at first.
She then changed her tune by demanding to be called doctor in front of the patients and hating on Sharon for knowing tricks of the trade. Wu came in right around when the new Executive Director took over. It seems her loyalty was less with the patients than it was with the new regime.
Either that or she was just arrogant beyond the usual for a doctor. She refused to mention a treatment plan because Sharon brought it up first. Sharon said the patient needed a lung transplant.
She should be put on the list right away for it. Wu ignored her while they were in front of the patient. She would later say that Sharon shouldn’t forgot that she was the doctor. She knew what was best for her patient. Sharon wasn’t happy about that. She went behind Wu’s back to get the patient on the donor list by asking for Dr. Archer to help.
It kinda proved the point that Dr. Charles soon made. He knew something was up when Sharon demoted herself back to charge nurse because he said that she got used to having the final word. She wasn’t going to pay deference to the doctors like the other nurses did. It’s true. She already broke command on her first day. S
he overreached in her position. She thought she could protect the hospital from the ground up and it could work. It just didn’t mean everyone bought it. Charles didn’t know about the resistance. He just knew his friend went from running the hospital to changing the sheets.
The other nurses would disagree about how their positions were portrayed. Only keeping Charles in the dark wasn’t going to work either. Sharon had the chance to tell him the truth and she hadn’t wanted to involve him. She left him so furious by her lame lies that he said now he’s the one that needs space. Dr. Charles soon helped a young child’s family.
They were worried that the kid was being abused. He wasn’t. He has CIP. It was a congenital insensitivity to pain. He was rough housing and he never knew he was injured or when to stop for his own good because his body’s warning system was off.
Charles and Dr. Frost both felt that it was perfectly safe for the little boy to return to his grandmother. His dad took off. His mom was in prison. His grandmother really was doing the best she could.
She thought he wasn’t in pain so she never thought he was injured. It was a common mistake for guardians of CIP children. It just wasn’t fully acceptable to the new regime at the hospital. Mallory Sloan was the new Sharon. She allowed DCFS to remove the little boy and his siblings removed from their grandmother’s care.
It was a mistake. It could be a very big mistake if that grandmother sues them over this. Charles and Frost knew she was going to fight back. It was Mallory who wasn’t worried. She said the algorithm reported the injuries to DCFS. She said the AI was going to cut down on malpractice suits.
They pointed out that expecting three small children not to be traumatized when they lose their sole caregiver wasn’t sound. Its why humans should be in charge of the reporting process. It didn’t matter to Mallory. She claimed the kids will probably be returned in ten days.
Frost got angry about it only there was nothing he could do. Charles knew the system a little bit better than him. He made some calls and he was going to do his best to reunite the family.
Meanwhile Dr. Ripley and Dr. Asher helped an unhoused couple. The woman was pregnant. She also suffered from anxiety. She couldn’t be split from her partner and so they agreed to put both couple up in the hospital for a few weeks. Depending on when labs finally come back. It could happen at any time. There was no rush.
Sharon gave the doctors an idea on how to keep the couple together at the hospital. Her advice also hurt a patient. The lung transplant refused the procedure because the lungs came from the man she hit with her car
. She couldn’t accept them under those circumstances. Nor did the man’s widow wanted Gail to have those lungs. She was angry and yelling when even the police ruled that what happened had been an accident. She needed someone to blame. She couldn’t blame her husband for jaywalking.
Sharon’s idea on how to keep Gail alive for the transplant came to hurt Gail in the end. It made her see that Wu was treating her like every other nurse and that’s what she needs. Sharon later told Charles the truth about everything. And he was ready to fight with her on ending Miranda’s reign of terror.
THE END!
