In tonight’s Chicago PD episode, Alex Cade of the DEA called Detective Adam Ruzek one night. The man didn’t just call. He also showed up out of the blue. He told Ruzek he was waiting outside on the porch and had looked through the window to see Adam enjoying a sandwich. Cade added the sandwich can wait because he needed his help with something.

He inherited a criminal informant from the detective a few years ago. That same informant went missing on him. Cade needed Ruzek’s help to finding him again. Cade didn’t know if Marcus Boone also known as Boogie had gotten cold feet. Or if he had gotten made. Cade said he just needed answers.

Ruzek called Boogie. He got him to agree to a meeting. He showed up with Cade. Cade was in the car at first and so Boogie didn’t see him. He came out to talk to Ruzek and Ruzek alone

. He said he needed help. He apparently got into some trouble. Not that Ruzek ever found out what the trouble was because that’s when Cade left the car. Boogie saw him. He turned to Ruzek. He said “what did you do” and suddenly people began firing at them. Boogie took off in the chaos. Ruzek fired back at the shooters. The same for Cade.

They killed one. They drove off the rest of shooters. They got into a car and sped out of there, but something about it felt off to Ruzek. He wanted to call Voight. He couldn’t because he was in a different state for an important recertification. The detectives had to run point on this one alone.

Ruzek and Burgess filled everyone on the case. He also told his wife about his gut feeling. He said that Boogie being in trouble wouldn’t come as a surprise. CIs get in trouble all the time. They tend to turn their handlers to get them out of it and Boogie didn’t do that.

Boogie seemed genuinely scared of Cade when he saw him. He looked at Ruzek like he betrayed him by bringing Cade to meet him. Ruzek knew something felt off. He had Burgess check into Cade. Cade was known as a cowboy. He was a little reckless. He broke the rules here and there.

It wasn’t enough to get him in trouble as long as he closed his case. Something he always did. Ruzek just couldn’t keep wrap his head around his head around why Boogie wouldn’t go to him for help. He also admitted to Burgess that the shooters showing up the way they did felt like a set up.

Something was wrong here. Ruzek initially gave Cade the benefit of the doubt. Cade shared the fact that the DEA got Boogie’s phone records and that he messaged Travis “TJ” McBride. His former cell mate in prison.

They went to TJ’s home. They asked him if Boogie contacted him. TJ said he hasn’t heard from him in a supposed minute and he didn’t mean a minute ago when it actually happened. He then asked to be given time to put on clothes. He put them on. Then he tried to escape out the back through a window.

Cade rushing in to arrest him had worked in his favor. Ruzek also spotted Cade swiping TJ’s phone from the sink. The detective mentioned it to Burgess and she asked how sure he was. He said about sixty percent. It wasn’t enough. They needed more before they labeled a DEA Agent dirty.

Ruzek followed Cade in his own vehicle. He wanted to find out what the man was up to and he thought found evidence of him being dirty when he followed him to a bar where Cade injured a woman. The woman as it turns out wasn’t innocent.

She was Rhonda. She was Boogie’s girl. She attacked Cade first and he had to handcuff her before she caused injury. Cade wasn’t dirty. Boogie was. Boogie planted fake drugs on the people he was supposed to get evidence against. Cade found out about it. He collected the fakes.

He was trying to get Boogie to come in quietly so it didn’t ruin the cases that were legitimate. The people they put behind bars were some of the worst. They deserved to be there. They’ll be released if the key witnessed proved to be dirty this once.

Cade has been trying to contain this. What’s stopping him was Boogie himself. Boogie got caught by the wrong people with his sham drugs. He’s on the run. He called Rhonda to get a few things for him. Cade and Ruzek showed up. Boogie tried taking Rhonda as a hostage.

He ran when he thought he got cleared and they were able to arrest him. They were taking him to the car when the people hunting him found him. They had more weapons. They had high-powered weapons. Cade got shot. Ruzek soon ran out of bullets.

If backup hadn’t showed when they did, they’d all be dead. Cade got rushed to the hospital. Ruzek found a way to make Boogie unusable. He was charged with a misdemeanor.

No agency will touch him after that and he didn’t have to go back to prison. He instead got to leave Chicago alive. He can start over somewhere else. And far away from the drug dealer looking to kill him.

Ruzek got to go home to his family afterwards. He apologized for not helping out more with the school search for Mac. And he’s glad that he wasn’t like Cade because his family got to be his everything rather than the job.

THE END!
