In tonight’s Chicago PD episode, Detective Kim Burgess was okay. She couldn’t sleep. She spent most of her nights obsessing over the little things she could fix at the house. It didn’t take long for Ruzek to realize something was up. He didn’t just live beside her. They were partners at home and at work.
He thought it was the stress of the new house and their daughter starting a new school. Yet, Mack loves her new school. She’s made a ton of new friends. It was Burgess and Ruzek who haven’t made new friends in the neighborhood. They were used to having neighbors look out for each other. Things were a little different now when the neighbors won’t even return a handwave taking out the trash.
It made Burgess anxious. She was heading into work early as she spotted a car swipe a pedestrian. She pursued it. The car crash and the woman inside died. She was identified as Jennifer Weaver. She was trafficking money and packages. Burgess realized how they could use her death.
Weaver was working for Jared Munson. The police have been trying to bring a case against him. Nothing has stuck so far. Burgess talked her plan through with Voight. She said they could send in someone undercover to finally catch Munson and that they could use his stuff to do it.
Burgess could go undercover as someone who found the drugs. She offers to give it back in return for a fee. All she had to do was make contact with one of his foot soldiers.
She did just that. Burgess would later get a message to Munson that demanded they meet up. Munson had sent his girlfriend to pick her up. She was clearly high pretending to be sober. Burgess clocked her right away. Dee Dee was running from a bad situation and it was clear she couldn’t be trusted with the bigger ones. She was a test.
She barely searched Burgess. Dee Dee couldn’t help talking. She may think she was Munson’s girlfriend, but she was someone Munson sent out to test the newbies.
Burgess might’ve failed that test. She was sent to a pick up with Dee. They ran into a dealer who pulled a gun. Burgess took him down instantly. She had the guy running for his life and that made her suspicious. Munson stopped by her fake apartment. He figured out where she lived. She also left her work phone and real phone both out on the table when she let him in.
Burgess wasn’t sure if he saw them or not. She also wasn’t sure if he bought her story about having an Army Ranger of a brother. It’s how she explained she knew what to do to take a grown man down. Burgess also thought she could use Dee Dee to get eyes on Munson’s office. Dee Dee had showed it to her. She had keys to the office.
Burgess was going to steal the keys and then return it before she became aware. There was just one issue. Dee Dee found out that Munson was sleeping with other women and she got super high.
Dee Dee was so high that she didn’t question why Burgess knew where she lived. Or how she knew she needed a girlfriend. She was in need of a friend and Burgess offered to be that for a whole night.
She snuck away the keys the next morning. She didn’t have time to plant a listening device before Ruzek was calling her to tell her she had been made. Munson drove pass their actual house. He had eyes on their daughter. He did see the phone after all. Ruzek warned Burgess to get out of there and she tried to do just that.
She was caught right before she could get to her car. Munson tried pretend like everything was normal. He asked her to go with him for a ride and Burgess knew better. She pulled her weapon.
She identified herself as a cop. Munson managed to sneak attack her as they grappled for the gun and he knocked her dizzy. She was on the ground, bleeding, and there he was asking if she flipped Dee Dee because apparently the woman robbed him. She stole his money after she found him cheating on her. He wanted it back.
Munson wasn’t dumb enough to kill a cop. He instead left Burgess bleeding on the ground as he pursued Dee Dee. He got to the girl before Burgess did. Munson killed his ex and her friend. He was on the run. Burgess was pursuing him. She studied him for a while before she went undercover. She eventually tracked him down.
He tried to go out guns blazing and Burgess killed him. It was considered a good shot. Though she blamed herself for Dee Dee’s murder. She got made and Voight told her that Munson checked out her car.
He tracked it to a renting company. Something an average person wouldn’t have been able to rent. Burgess may think he suspected her because of the phones and Voight told her that they couldn’t be sure. There’s a possibility he suspected her from the onset.
Burgess closed her case and she eventually got to know her new neighbors, but she still couldn’t sleep and Ruzek didn’t dig.
THE END!
