There was a rich American killed at sea. He had been on his yacht. He was partying with two girls barely above legal age when an assassin boarded his boat and killed him. Only that hadn’t been the case the CIA was investigating.
They were just glad to welcome back Bill. Bill returned to work after taking some time off. His father died of cancer. His mom was proving difficult. He was glad to return to work. He wasn’t so much glad to be terrified by Colin who broke into his car again. It was Collin’s way of checking in on him. He was being a good friend. And Bill appreciates it deep down, deep deep down.
He was brought up to date on a new case. Which was again not involving the rich guy who was murdered. It was about Lalo Carbrella. He works for a cartel out of Colombia.
He was an internationally wanted man. He could give them information on taking down his cartel. Collin received intel he was going to be entering the country soon and it paid off. They spotted Lalo. They made sure they were seen tracking him so that he’d never suspect Nikki was putting a low level radioactive tracking powder on him.
It worked. They tracked his movements to a house owned by a shell company out of Delaware. They were going to arrest him there because they figured it would minimize possible damage and instead they found a dead DEA Agent at the scene. He was technically a DEA Contractor.
Not that it made a difference with a cartel member standing over his dead body. Mitch Selby once worked a case against Lalo. His team got close and just missed him. They claimed they found nothing. It just wouldn’t explained where Mitch got all his money from.
Mitch hid it real well. If he hadn’t been found at the house, it never would’ve been connected to him. Mitch owned that house and he bought several expensive paintings. There was one crooked painting that hid a now emptied safe. The agents questioned Lalo. He didn’t do this. He went as far as to claim he was being set up.
He said he got a tip on who stole his money six years ago and he entered the country to get it back. He had been followed the whole way there He didn’t have enough time to torture a grown man or kill him before Bill and Collin moved in. He might actually be telling the truth.
The stolen money would explain Mitch’s death. It would also explain another former DEA Agent’s disappearance. The rich guy from the yacht. His name was Kip Hall. He retired at fifty. He bought a yacht and traveled the world. Something he couldn’t have done on a government salary.
They eventually went looking for Kip’s body and found it in the river. There was an assassin killing off the same DEA Agents that stole from Lalo. They wanted to draw Lalo into the city right as the bodies were found to make him look guilty. And there was a third DEA Agent still alive.
His name is Keith Truman. He had been undercover on another assignment when the guys tracked him down. He hadn’t retired. He hadn’t bought a fancy house with expensive paintings. He was still doing grunt work so it gave credence to his story that he hadn’t been a part of the rip-off. He said the Lalo case was supposed to make his career.
He wouldn’t jeopardize that by stealing the money or lying that it had ever been there. The case would’ve gotten him out of the field and a lofty job. In spite of not capturing Lalo himself.
No, Keith thought that his team had used his information to steal the money. They then got to start over and he was never given the chance. He had no clue who else might be involved. He also didn’t know who would hire a hitman to steal from those guys now. They didn’t just hire a hitman. They hired the infamous Felix Vincente.
The man was such a famous assassin that he killed three CIA Agents before. The agency actually thought he was dead right up until they linked him to the new murders.
Vincente was merely a hired gun. One that the CIA determined was hired by Keith after he tried to kill them. Keith lured Bill and Collin to a garage and nearly blew them up with a car bomb.
They survived the encounter, but there’s no telling where Keith went. Keith had been telling the truth. He hadn’t been a part of the crew that stole the money and that’s why he was killing the men off. They stole as a way to get back at him. They all thought Keith was a miserable human being. They got to the house a day before they claimed and stole all of Lalo’s money stashed there.
Keith also left one person off the mission list. He left off the pilot because he had been a part of the rip-off. His name is Gary Martin. He helped them get the money out of the country and back to the States.
Gary was an alcoholic. He was haunted by the teenage soldier they killed to steal the money. Mitch helped him to get clean and so Gary decided to go to his funeral. He came back to New York. He didn’t try to run or hide when he spotted the CIA. He happily turned himself over because he’s wanted to confess for a while now.
The one thing stopping him had been not wanting to get Mitch in trouble. He hated Kip. Kip was the one who killed the kid back then. He hated Keith for what they did to spite him. He now wanted to take him down for killing his friend. Gary was allowed to attend Mitch’s funeral. It was his one ask. They also thought it would lure out the assassin. It did.
He just didn’t come out until they were leaving the funeral. Vincente attempted to kill Gary. Bill stopped him. Bill was soon forced to pursue him when the guy ran off.
Vincente jumped into a nearby river. There’s no telling if he’s alive or dead. Bill suspected he was survived the fall. They later found Keith and the money. Though no one was going to know about the money because the CIA will play its part in burying the evidence against dirty DEA Agents. Bill nearly dropped the ball with this one because he was still grieving.
So, Collin covered for him and he agreed to help. He found out what Bill’s dad was doing in a small town after retirement. It was bothering Bill that didn’t know about it. And there’s a reason for that.
His dad was CIA.
THE END!
