In tonight’s Elsbeth episode, a great cabaret singer became a murderer on tonight’s episode of “Elsbeth”. She had killed a British Duke. He was technically a part of the royal family and he wanted to make a deal for the hotel. He said the family had already experienced bad press. Which the great Ruby Lane didn’t appreciate.
Ruby performed at the hotel every night. She also lives in the suite upstairs. She was still an actor though she wasn’t getting much parts. She was feeling the tightness with money. It’s why she committed a critical after she killed Duke Sebastian. The murder itself could easily have been covered up if she hadn’t stole from the minibar on her way out.
Ruby was that cheap. She stole easily from others. She also stole things that weren’t found in the Duke’s trash bin and that right there told them that someone else was in the room.
This along with everything else that Elsbeth found had pointed to one thing – this being a murder. Ruby didn’t clean up after herself. She staged him to have slipped and died in the shower. His room was one of the few that had been upgraded since the Havenford Realty Group decided to sell the hotel. They upgraded all of the suites.
Ruby wouldn’t know because hers wasn’t upgraded. She was taking advantage of free room and board by staying at the hotel. It got even worse. She never tips. Tipping was a thing in NYC.
Ruby would always tell staff that she’d get them later on and then later on never happened for them. Ruby also made the mistake of leaving the pajamas she changed her victim out of behind. There was flecks of blood still on it. She was a stage diva or else she’d have noticed that his room recently experienced a renovation.
The lamp shades weren’t all facing the same direction. The massive dents in the foot helper that she used to pry off the bathroom safety hook. She left all these things behind and Elsbeth noticed everything.
Elsbeth knew this was a murder on night one. She figured out who killed him by the next morning. Then came the hard part of proving it. She ran into Ruby at breakfast. Ruby hogged most of the items. She even said a tragedy like the one that killed Duke Sebastian was bound to happen because the place was falling apart.
Only it wasn’t. The hotel was being put up for sale because the current owners feared the new mayor. The same one that Elsbeth dated and who has now moved on to someone else.
His new romance was all over the papers. His old romance was being forgotten. Elsbeth wasn’t sure how she felt about that. She was juggling a murder and her son possibly getting engaged. Teddy wanted to propose. He unfortunately took after his father in how he wanted to propose. He wanted to do something small. His mother tried to warn him that it wasn’t romantic.
Hiding a ring under a pizza topping that they ordered in wasn’t what Teddy’s partner wanted. He was like Elsbeth. He wanted a grand gesture. Problem was that Teddy took after his father.
His dad proposed to Elsbeth with a message on a footnote in a law briefing. She still married him, but she never got over that disappointment and she didn’t want Teddy’s boyfriend to feel the same way. She tried to talk Teddy into doing something more only for him to get upset with her. He said there was nothing wrong with being like dad.
He didn’t want to oversell the life they were building together. He thinks if he keeps telling his boyfriend that it was going to be nights inside and watching tv and chill. He goes big he’s only setting them up for failure. He needed a guy’s advice. He got lucky by talking to Captain Wagner.
Wagner showed how important it was to make the moment count for their rest of their lives. Once she had that sorted, Elsbeth figured out why Ruby killed Duke Sebastian. The long-term guests would have to pay back everything they took from the hotel if the hotel gets sold.
Ruby was a little too free with things because she now owes millions. She would’ve been ruined in the event of a sale. She once said to a painter that she would have to go out foot first before she ever gave up her life at the Reily. It was the opposite of what she told the police. She told them that she couldn’t wait to sell.
She also used her appearance on “Father Crime” tv show to say she was watching that in her room. She hadn’t been watching it during the murder. If she had, she’d have seen that they cut her singing part.
No alibi, a reason to stop the sale, she also did it with her award. The monogram shoe horn was indented on the bottom of the award and that’s how she got the safety bar removed. They got her award by switching bags. Elsbeth did warn her that she has Ruby’s signature bag of her own. And it solved the case tonight. Ruby got arrested.
She was finally leaving the hotel for good. Without their cabaret singer, the hotel closed the café for one night. Teddy used that to sing with the band. That’s how he proposed and got accepted to his lovely boyfriend. Teddy was now getting married. Elsbeth was such a proud mom and she was glad to have run into a friend working undercover at the hotel. They got to bond about each of their cases.
And imagine what kind of grandmother Elsbeth will prove to be.
