Simone stayed overnight at the hospital with a crucial patient. She completely forgot to tell Jules. Jules showed up at the house and said they were supposed to start the process to freezing their eggs. It’s fine because Kwon knew about it. It wasn’t fine because Simone’s friends with benefits didn’t know she was thinking about kids. It kinda ruined what they had going. Jules tried to explain that it was her idea only she needed to be at work. Kwon refused to give rides. He said he wasn’t a soccer mom.
Only Kwon still gave them a ride into work. Jules was working with Kwon’s own friends with benefits. Mohanty was a fellows. Jules was a second year resident. Jules should technically be taking orders from her and that’s the way Mohanty wanted things because she was trying to impress Toni. Toni was an attending. She was what they both wanted to be. They were working on a man named Scott. Scott had an open wound in his chest from a previous surgery. Jules was in on the previous one. She knew Scott as well as his wife. They all got along. And Mohanty got jealous.
Jules kept stealing her thunder. It was never intentional. Its just that Jules wants to succeed at everything and she’s been doing great so far. She impressed the attendees. She’s very vigilante about her work. There was only the once when she crossed a line. She revived a woman with a DNR. She knew Max. Max was her roommate and surrogate grandmother. They were very close so she didn’t want to lose her. She let sentiment cloud judgement that once. It helps that Max wasn’t upset to still be alive.
Anyways, Scott the patient needed a more intricate surgery. It was Jules who suggested the surgery. She knew that Scott wanted to go on a safari and wouldn’t mind a scar. Mohanty preferred a simpler, though longer surgery. Toni went with Jules’s idea. Moments after Toni left the room, Mohanty essentially told Jules to know her place. She was the fellows. She had more power. She was trying to convince Toni to recommend her for a position back in Boston. It’s where Mohanty’s from. It’s also where her family still lives and she wanted to be closer to them.
She could have explained the latter to Jules. Jules would have quieted down. But that’s not what Mohanty said. Mohanty chose to go all threatening and Jules tried to ignore it. They were in surgery together when Mohanty kept giving her attitude that Jules just asked if she wanted another resident. She didn’t know what she did. She could see and hear from Mohanty that she did something wrong because Mohanty refusing all help from her. Mohanty then said she wanted her on her A game.
Jules thought she was providing it. That’s when Mohanty explained wanting to impress Toni for a great spot in Boston and Jules understood right away. She said next time just say it. Jules was a good friend as long as the other person asks for a friend. She thought they were just both junior doctors under the great Toni Wright. Its why they both actively sought to impress her. They were at least doing a better job than Ben. Ben kept getting tongue-tied around Toni. He wanted to impress her and she told him not to try.
Just do his job with a great focus on the patient. This is what will determine if he makes a great doctor or not. Ben finally got out of his own way and he suggested something for the patient that showed he has a great future in Plastics if he keeps it up. He was experienced. He needed to use it. They ended up taking Scott back into surgery because his flap didn’t have blood flow. It made the surgery trickier than before and the same goes for Corban. Corban was the critical patient that Simone stayed at the hospital with.
Corban originally wanted Teddy’s groundbreaking surgery. She denied it to him because she said it was a hail mary. She wanted him to have a much easier surgery and unfortunately there were complications after that one. He was dying so she did the surgery he first asked for. She and Winston bumped heads about it. Winston couldn’t believe she waited until the patient was that sick to finally do a surgery she’s done before. Nora had it less than six months ago. They still didn’t get a full account on the surgery’s long-term effects.
What they did with Nora as well as now Corban was still relatively new. They took the chance because Corban would die without it and thankfully the surgery was a success. Mohanty on the other hand destroyed the stitches on Scott’s chest. It ruined the flap. It also meant Scott was going need a few more surgeries. Ones he might not survive now. Toni was so angry that she kicked out both Mohanty and Jules out of the OR. Neither would shift blame on what happened nor did Mohanty want to confess to ruining that man’s chest.
But will be investigated.
Lucas then tried to follow Bailey’s advice. He focused on his patients in the OR. He actually asked Bryant to walk out of the room at one time because he was upset with the patient’s brother. The brother kept trying to take the lottery ticket away from the patient. The guy just won two millions dollars and already his brother was asking for his cut. Bryant was then asked to leave the room when he got in the brother’s face. The two brothers resolved their issues on their own. They didn’t need someone interfering. And Lucas was removed from Katie’s case when she came back in.
Katie was dying and there was no changing that anymore.
Amelia watched it and it made her realize she shouldn’t be afraid to tell Toni she has a son. Sure, being a mom proved to be a dealbreaker in her last relationship. It wasn’t with Toni because Ton also happens to have a son. She was a single mom living with her sister who helps with childcare.
And Bryant didn’t want to hang out with Simone after work that day. He wouldn’t say why. Maybe it had to do with a rough day or it could be the kids thing.
The End
