In tonight’s Law & Order SVU episode, a joint operation with Homicide went sideways for the Special Victims Unit. The detectives got caught up in the blast of an IED. Detective Bruno was punctured by shrapnel and he nearly died in the ambulance. His captain helped get him back. She stabilized the wound.
Bruno survived making the trip to the hospital. He was rushed into surgery and it could go either way. While he was fighting for his life, his unit wanted justice. This all started because NYPD found out that a charity was really a cover for human trafficking.
They would abduct pregnant women just so they could sell their babies. It was a couple behind the whole thing. Sergey and his wife, Sarah Tandon. Sergey got chose in the face by a cop.
Which just left the wife. Sarah’s records showed that she was just as involved as her husband in the whole operation. They also had ties with a white supremacists group. It was the group behind the bomb that nearly killed Bruno. Captain Benson and Lieutenant Brady wanted to know how they gained access to C4. They went to the prison to question Sarah. And she was refusing to talk.
Sarah was denying any culpability in either the group’s actions or the human trafficking. She was trying to blame everything on Sergey. She was going to use the abused spouse defense.
She trial-ran it with cops. She was saying she knew nothing. Anything she might know was best given after she received a deal. She was the only one that could supposedly help them and yet she wasn’t talking. She instead hired a hotshot attorney. The lawyer got Hobbs’s testimony thrown out. Sarah was released without any bond. She really doesn’t have to talk now.
The cops had to work around her. They found out that the person who bought the C4 was Andrew Wells. They arrested him for it. They found out that his whole neighborhood was a part of that supremacist group.
They had a racist flag flying right in the center of the neighborhood. It couldn’t have been cheap to buy up so much land or all that C4 or the weapons they’ve been buying in bulk. It turns out that a geneticist bought it for them. His name is Joseph Dahlsonn. His family was European. He believes in preserving the European all whites version of America.
Dahlsonn creates the perfect embryos for wealthy clients. He used their money to fund his real work. He took part in eugenics. He was trying to create the perfect white child so that they could become the superior race. He wanted them to be stronger, smarter, and taller than all the other races. It was clear when he bought embryos on the black market to manipulate. He was buying them from Sarah’s fake charity. He also tossed all the ones that weren’t white. They couldn’t directly tie him to Wells initially or find out his master plan.
Not until they got information against his assistant. The assistant tried to save himself so he gave the cops everything he knew about the secret eugenics program. It was technically illegal by an act of congress. It simply wasn’t illegal in the State of New York. They could transfer him over to the feds. It would open a door that ADA Price wasn’t sure should be opened. He was worried that any action might be used by activists on the other side of the aisle to use and exploit. Its why he didn’t want to open the door.
He wanted to find credible evidence against Dahlsonn that they could use to send him away for life. One of the women that Sarah abducted had given birth to a little girl. She couldn’t keep the little girl because she wasn’t in the country legally. She was from the Ukraine. She might get sent back there. She couldn’t take a child into a warzone. Nor could she stay in the United States around such dangerous people willing to shut her up for good. She agreed to put her baby up for adoption and Benson did her best to support her through that decision.
Polina didn’t want to keep her baby because she feared Sarah. She had every reason to be afraid. Sarah was a great actress. She played the abused wife perfectly. She made Carisi appear as if he was bullying by her questioning her story. She could’ve wrapped the jury around her finger if it hadn’t been for Dahlsonn. He wanted those black market embryos back. He was prepared to testify against Sarah to get his “property” back. He apparently recorded all their phone conversations so he knew literally where the bodies were buried. Nadiya wasn’t her first victim.
Dahlsonn pointed the cops to field full of bodies. Sarah ordered they be put there. She gave the order to kill Nadiya during one of their recorded conversations. Dahlsonn testified against her. It was enough to sway the jury. They later found Sarah guilty of all charges. With her conviction, the women she exploited began to feel safe. They applied for green cards and Polina finally decided to keep her baby.
Dahlsonn also found out that the embryos were going to be destroyed because of the parents. The rightful genetic owners of the embryos filed an injunction because they didn’t agree to the tests that Dahlsonn was running on them. The judge ultimately decided to order that they be deleted. Dahlsonn was fighting the decision in court. He has the money to prolong this fight long enough to get more embryos elsewhere. But Bruno survived and was back on his feet. It was some happy news.
THE END!
