In tonight’s NCIS: Sydney episode, Trigger hadn’t been lying when he said he shot Jason Wright for reaching for a weapon. He really did think that’s what happened. He thought because that’s what he had been told. Trigger hadn’t known that the man was reaching for his inhaler.
Or that his boss AFP Sergeant Rory Latham covered it up. There was a weapon found at the scene and that’s because Rory threw it there when Trigger’s back was turned. Trigger was told to clear the rest of the apartment while Rory checked on Jason. It right about the time he found this supposed weapon. And no one other than the late Jason Wright’s son knew any differently.
Not until the recent bombings. The son grew up to become a bomber. Tim Wright now went by the name of Kyle Hadden. He wanted revenge for getting orphaned by AFP. He killed Trigger’s fiancé and even that hadn’t been enough for him. He then abducted Evie because he could see she mattered to Trigger.
Kyle left a bleeding out Trigger to deactivate the bomb placed around Evie’s neck. He stayed nearby so he could watch the carnage and so he was left angry when neither died in the explosion. Trigger was able to free Evie in time.
They sought cover. It protected from the blast. It probably helps that Kyle didn’t use all the components he stole from a chemical lab. He instead waited around to see who would come to Trigger’s aide. When he saw Rory, he recognized him from that day. Kyle saw his father get shot.
He was a witness to everything and Rory did his best to hide it. He just didn’t cover up his trail as well as he thought. He let an angry kid grow up to be a terrorist. He also let Trigger keep his job in spite of making a mistake that would’ve costed him his career ten years ago.
Trigger may not have realized it. Only he did kill an unarmed man. There’s no telling what would’ve happen if Kyle saw that someone was taking responsibility for what happened and instead he saw a coverup. Trigger survived the blast. He still needed to be rushed to the hospital for the gunshot wound.
Evie went with him after saying everything about this case was personal to Kyle. Kyle went through shift when he stopped being Tim Wright. The boys home was his personal hell. The one highlight was that he wasn’t there alone. He had a best friend named Lachlan Accaria.
He was also known as “Lachie”. They carved their initials onto the beds in that room. Evie recognized it because she was chained to that bed. Kyle wanted to destroy his past as Tim. He hated who he was then. It made sense that he would turn to someone who survived the same thing as his accomplice in the bombings. Evie confirmed he had an accomplice before she left with Trigger. She wanted to ride with him in the ambulance. They went through a lot together and she didn’t want to leave him. Much like Lachie with Kyle.
Lachie worked in a company that brought him into contact with Kyle again. The director of the boys home said that Kyle and Lachie were more than best friends. Kyle fought Lachie battles for him. He protected him in there. Lachie did whatever Kyle said. Kyle was the dominant one here and that made him the true threat out of the two.
NCIS went looking for Lachie. JD in the meantime reviewed the crime scene evidence from Jason’s death ten years ago. He realized the gun planted on Jason was Rory’s sidepiece. The one he kept as a backup.
No sooner did he confront Rory that another bomb went off. Kyle was always watching remember. Kyle blew up Rory’s car and he killed him as well as injured several people nearby. Rory’s death came close to breaking JD. The two of them were great friends. Rory once saved his life.
Its why he was so angry that Rory covered up what Trigger did and now their final words to each other were those in anger. JD needed to capture Kyle after that. He just never expected Kyle’s next move. Kyle and Lachie broke into AFP’s evidence locker. They stole fifteen million dollars taken in a drug bust.
They almost killed Doc Rosie and AFP Forensic Pathologist Nia Williams as well. Their office was right next door to the evidence locker. They were able to escape and locked down the medical lab where they hid until backup arrived. Stealing the money felt like an exit plan.
They thought Kyle and Lachie planned on leaving town and Nia knew how they were going to do it. She had an ex-husband who loved fishing more than her. He smelled the same as Lachie. As someone covered in boat fuel. Lachie did own a boat.
They later arrested him trying to board it. Kyle was supposed to meet him later. He had a few more things he wanted to do. Evie realized one of them was killing Trigger now that he’s already killed Rory. Kyle broke into Trigger’s hospital room. He tried to kill Trigger again and Evie stopped him.
Evie was Trigger’s next of kin in the event of an emergency. It was the last thing Trigger said before he was rushed into surgery for the bullet wound and Evie didn’t let him down. She was there for him. The two of them went through something that there’s no turning back with.
If nothing else what cemented the bond was Rory’s funeral. Trigger realized rather fast that there was a bomb in the church. Kyle left one of his toy soldiers on Rory’s coffin.
Trigger recognized it because Kyle was playing with it when his father was killed. Trigger remembered more that day than he’s willing to admit. He also cleared out the building once he realized a bomb was involved. He ended up finding two bombs in the crypt. They needed to be disarmed at the same time so he asked for Evie to assist.
Together, they stopped the last and final bomb from going off. They saved the day. They also put aside their pride to admit they liked spending time together. Kyle was a psycho but he wasn’t wrong when he saw that Trigger cared about Evie.
Rosie also spent more time with Nia. It resulted in him missing Blue’s phone call. The first time he’s ever not taken her calls. And while DeShawn was building a bond with the bagel lady from next door, JD admitted to Mackey that he hadnt told Trigger the truth about Jason.
She then finally admitted the photo of her son went missing when the guys broke into NCIS. Its okay though because her son was coming to Sydney to visit her and she can keep him safe there.
THE END!
