On tonight’s Sheriff Country finale, Alec Kane killed Rick Fraley. He did it because Rick proved to be a liability. He tried to poison his own cousin. The Sheriff’s daughter and that was just a step too far for Alec. He covered up when Rick killed Brandon. He couldn’t keep doing that or finding a fall guy. He had to cut Rick loose. He killed him.
It was to protect himself as much as it was to protect Rick’s mother, Miranda Fraley. Alec secretly worked for Miranda. He cleaned up her messes. He was doing the same for Miranda’s boy until he got a little too involved with Mickey.
Mickey clearly wasn’t on the cards. Miranda had stopped by Mickey’s house on tonight’s episode. She saw Alec there. They played it cool in front of Mickey and then Mickey turned her back to them to call Boone. They were discussing work when she spotted Miranda questioning Alec in a mirror. They supposedly just met. Miranda was concerned about her son.
There was no need for Miranda to try and talk to Alec or Alec would make the shushing sign to her. This was the moment that Micky realized she had done it again. She let another criminal into her life.
It was one thing when it was just her dad. Everyone could pretty much overlook it because she wanted to think the best of the great Wes Fox. It even had her office investigated and the investigation itself was winding down when Mickey’s boyfriend proved to be a dirty DEA Agent.
She had a drug dealer of a father, a dirty agent of a boyfriend, and a daughter still in recovery. Mickey has taken a lot of hits lately. It was bound to catch up to her. And for a while she wanted to pretend like it wasn’t her reality.
Mickey didn’t confront Miranda or Alec. She carpooled with her boyfriend into work. She downplayed a mysterious third man involvement when Boone got close to the truth. He found out that there had been someone else that killed Maguire and shot at cops that night. Mickey asked him if he had any DNA. Anything concrete.
Boone didn’t have it and it had looked like Mickey didn’t want to help him find it. This didn’t change even as they later found Rick’s body. He was dumped in the trunk of his car. The car was left in a bad neighborhood and a couple of kids found it.
They took a car for a joyride. Boone knew they weren’t involved with murder. There was no killer who would waste time after killing someone to do donuts in the vehicle.
Mickey arrested the two joyriders in spite of Boone’s suspicion. It wasn’t until Boone spotted Alec making a pile of the post-it notes that he realized Alec was Mr. X. He was the man that Miranda had hired to clear away all competition as she took over Emerald Eden. Miranda knew exactly who killed her son. She just couldn’t come forward without risking herself.
Everything lined up. Mickey agreed with Boone’s theory. She told him what she found. He told her what he found. Their stories synched up to the point they couldn’t hide from this anymore.
Alec was the third man. He was guilty of putting Edgewater at risk. He needed to be taken down so they came up with a plan. Boone told DEA Deputy Director Santos that Mickey was dirty. She stole the additional two million that was never found. He claimed he arrested Mama Jo. He said Mickey accepted a bribe to help her dad’s friend escaped.
Santos said they were about to issue a warrant for Mickey. She told Alec because she claimed she recently learned he was in a relationship with Mickey. To his credit, the first thing that Alec did was charter a plane to help Mickey get out of town. They were going to run away together.
They made it as far as the airport when Alec finally figured out it was a setup. He was a bad person and still that didn’t stop him from falling love. He knew that Mickey cared about him too. He confessed to covering up what Rick did by killing Brandon.
They had gotten into a fight over drugs. Rick killed him. He then was going to let Skye take the fall and Alec framed someone else for it. He did it for Miranda. He also did it because he genuinely cared about Mickey. Only Mickey was done with being used. They turned their weapons on each other once they both realized the other knew the truth.
Boone went running in to help. He helped Mickey disarm Alec. The Deputy Director was in on it so there are no loose ends anymore. Alec was killed when he went for his secret gun at his ankle. The Deputy Director was forced to put him down.
Just not before Alec managed to shoot Boone. Boone was rushed to the hospital and he was going to be fine. Miranda was also later arrested once they tied her to the late Alec. The Fraley’s Timber company needed change and Travis agreed to be that change. He was taking over the company.
It was time he stopped running from his responsibilities. It’s how Skye put it when she convinced him. Skye then talked her grandad into working with the feds as well. Wes told the DEA that he’d help them take down the Bulgarian cartel in return for working with his daughter.
Wes and Mickey were both in Santos’s office when Wes got surprised by the Deputy Director. She wasn’t just some suit. She was his late wife, Maria. She was Mickey’s father and she was threatening to end her daughter’s career if they didn’t all work together to take down the Bulgarians.
Cass meanwhile reopened a cold case because she wanted to get justice for other families. She caught her sister’s killer and it helped her reunite with her mother. She wanted to do the same for others now. Its why she was looking into Punch’s mother’s murder. He always thought his brother killed their mom. Cass wasn’t so sure. She even got backup from Hank whose real name was Enrique Iglesias.
He agreed to work her and she kept his real name to herself.
