The Barlows were fanatic about their privacy. They were sovereign citizens in that they didn’t think they needed to answer to the government. They firmly believed that they would one day fight the government. They indoctrinated their children and armed them. After their patriarch was arrested, they attacked the sheriff’s office. It was a move long time coming. It just wasn’t the sheriff’s fault. It was the FBI that arrested him. Mickey as sheriff had everything under control until the feds came. They’ve been looking at Enoch Barlow for a while now. He so rarely left his compound that they couldn’t let such an opportunity go to waste.
This all came about because Enoch Barlow lost his mind. His wife died. He became zealous. He turned against the government. It left his son-in-law worried about his young son. The dad escaped the compound with the kid. The sheriff’s office had put them somewhere safe. Enoch even left his compound to demand his grandson’s return. He came to the sheriff’s office to talk. Mickey got him to calm down. He was going to leave without anyone getting hurt and the feds moved in. They didn’t tell Mickey that they were operating on her turf.
They took control of the investigation. They put Enoch in Mickey’s holding cells. They kept him there while they waited for backup to escort him. The Barlows quickly realized something was off when he never left the station. Barlow’s daughter was now in charge. She led an assault on the sheriff station. Ruth didn’t care about reasoning or that she will never see her son again once she did this. She probably thought they could grab him like they were demanding Enoch release. It was all brazen.
Ruth came into the station with a few guys in masks with guns. They initially just outright demanded Enoch’s return because they knew they sent most of the sheriff deputies out on a goose chase. Then one of her men got trigger happy. He shot Travis who was unarmed. Cass returned fire. She killed one of them and so they ran out to attack the building in group. The outer glass was bulletproof. It just wasn’t chainsaw-proof. They attacked with everything and they just kept coming until it looked like all hope was lost.
There were a lot of the Barlows as well their “believers”. They believe Enoch was ordained by God. They believe that only he could lead when the government falls and chaos will reign. Enoch convinced them of all of it. He truly lost his mind after he lost his wife. Only Mickey was reasoning with him before the feds moved in. The feds merely confirmed their bias when they arrested Enoch. The Barlows eventually broke in. Mickey and Boone were doing their best to hold them off. They were in the hallways. They were looking for Enoch.
Enoch had been moved to a secure room. The feds were with him. Cass and Travis were there. Travis needed urgent medical attention and Enoch was a field medic in the military. He offered to help. He agreed to treat Travis. Cass tried to turn down, but son she needed someone trained. She released Enoch from his handcuffs. The feds didn’t like that. They had their guns trained on him while he saved Travis’s life. The federal agent in charge then demanded she put Enoch back in cuffs. Cass told him off.
Cass said that Enoch was actually helping. What was he doing? One fed left to join the fight. Then Cass. Then Enoch just pushed past the female federal agent who was young and easily intimidated. She then made up for it. Boone managed to get to the radio to get one of the deputies in range. It all ended in a standoff. They could kill Mickey and someone would kill Ruth. Enoch found them and he made his people put their guns down. The deputies arrived not long after. There was too much bloodshed.
Enoch started out as a man of peace. Ruth willing to kill his grandson just to release him showed him the error of his ways. The feds’ convoy also showed up. They took Enoch back into custody. The remaining Barlows were arrested. It ended. Travis was taken to the hospital and that was once Mickey kissed him. She said that was her answer to his question from earlier. The one about wanting to start over again.
And Mickey stayed back at the station with some of the others. They hoped to put things in some sort of semblance soon.
The End
