In tonight’s Suddenly Amish episode, James was upset that Matt came back. He didn’t like him nor did he respect that he was divorced. The other Amish didn’t react that way to Matt’s return.
They were glad he came back because it gave him another chance at entering their community. James was the one dissenting vote against allowing him to return.
He said that Matt wasn’t built for the Amish community. Allen suspected James dislikes Matt because he was jealous. He thought James had a sweet spot for Kendra and that Kendra’s crush on Matt was no secret. It really wasn’t by the way. She injured her arm running to hold Matt after he returned. She was a beautiful young woman. And James has already broken the rules for her.
As for Allen’s suspicions, they weren’t too far off the mark. Emma thought James could be jealous too. She chose to laugh about it because she knew that Kendra and James would never last. They were like cats and dogs. Or so Emma believed because she didn’t see how much James wanted to rebel.
He showed off that side when they overheard a Rumspringa party. It happened after church. The cast was allowed to attend Amish service. The film crew stayed outside. The English wore Amish clothes and they got to stay during prayer. Most of them got bored and left early.
It was only Aaron that stayed behind to take in the full church experience. He stayed during song. He stayed during the meal afterwards and the talking. This was the same guy that couldn’t hear clearly, but he showed the church more respect than the others did. Emma noticed that.
Then later at dinner that James was supposed to bless they suddenly heard music from nearby. The Rumspringa party reminded James that he didn’t have a Rumspringa. His church was too conservative to allow it. He suddenly decided right then and there to enjoy the party.
James thought he was following Allen’s advice to lighten up. He claimed to the cameras he wanted to show the lighter side of the community and the truth is that he spent the whole party staring at Kendra. Kendra got drunk enough to twerk a bit. James also got drunk. He wrestled Emma.
Emma was his cousin and Mary Jo was one of the few that thought Emma might be interested in James. Something about their dynamic wasn’t reading “family”. There was even a moment where Emma seemed jealous of all the attention that James was paying to Kendra.
It could be why she wanted to wrestle him so badly. Or why she knocked his hat off the way she did. She was trying to get his attention and he didn’t realize it. James was too focused on Kendra. Kendra was too set on Matt and Matt seemed to return those feelings. The two of them were constantly together after he got back.
So much so that Allen had to remind him that rules haven’t changed. There will be no intimate contact between members of a different sex. And intimate could mean heads bent too close together.
Matt forgot about those rules. Him leaving the way he did also ensured he didn’t realize it was too late that he would be staying in the same room as James. They were staying at James’s house now because Allen’s house has bats. The girls were desperately afraid of bats. They moved to James’s place because it would be safer.
It now poses a problem for Matt and Kendra who often tried to find some time alone together. James got super upset after he saw them skip duties just to do so. He talked to Matt. He told Matt that he was a corrupting influence.
He accused Matt of trying to steal Amish ladies. Well, Kendra isn’t Amish. She was still Enlish. Matt was English as well. They decided to do what English people do. They went to a hotel. Matt hadn’t wanted to share a room with James after another fight and so he went to the hotel. Kendra then followed him to that hotel. James found out about it and he went after them trying to get them to come back to the house. Away from temptation.
And those two didn’t want to be Amish, they wanted to be together and the Amish were stopping them while they were involved in this experiment.
THE END!
