It’s been a quarter of a century since “Survivor” began. Now, they were bringing back some old favs to compete once again for the prize. There were twenty-four people across forty-nine seasons that returned. There were those that became infamous. Others that became a joke.
There was even two people from the previous season. There were plenty that wanted their second chance but was it fair that the winners got to come back? They already won once. They wore the necklace and had a big speech.
Only they were back. The rules were a little bit different this season. The fans got to decide most things and they decided on making things as tough as possible. They wanted the cast to earn their rice. They also had to earn their supplies. They were split into three tribes.
There was the Purple (Vatu) Tribe, the Orange (Cila) Tribe, and the Teal (Kalo) Tribe. They competed for fire. The first bit of their supplies. The tribes also determined rather quickly that way who was a best at competitions.
Savannah was still quick on her feet. She easily moved the fastest at first. It was the rest of her team that let her down. The win ended up going to Vatu. Vatu held Savannah’s friend, Rizo. He and his tribe got to head to the beach where they found the biggest fire.
The fire was actually a bonfire it was so huge. They were never going to lose it unless they hit rain. Rain was always a possibility. The tribe got to know each other and right away some felt annoyed at Rizo for being so talkative. He didn’t quite focus on building the shelter like the rest of them. He mostly talked game play.
The other tribes were getting to know each other as well. Mike White proved to be quite fit. He had a six pack and that took some by surprise. Mike was a lot like a dad. He joked with everyone. He was pretty easygoing. He’d vote for anyone who ticked him off. Others were more cutthroat. This was why those like Savannah did come forward by saying she won her season. She knew it would make her seem like a threat and so she didn’t hide it because it would’ve been worse if they found out after the fact.
There was also the second competition for the rest of the supplies. Each Tribe had to select someone to go on a boat and two of the three ended up being Coach and Ozzy. They have bad blood. They knew they’d have to compete against each other eventually. They just didn’t think it would be so soon. Coach blames Ozzy for missing out on the million dollar prize. Ozzy had been on the jury. Coach had been in the final three. He was so close that he became a sore loser. He admitted as much. Both men apologized to each other.
They claimed they wanted to move past it. Time didn’t even past before Coach went back on his word. They had to use a pole they put together to get a key off a hook. Ozzy had it. Coach then stole it from him. Q was just there was for the ride. Coach got to walk off with the rest of the supplies. He got to go back to his tribe. Q and Ozzy found themselves stuck on the Island Exile for a full night. They missed out on critical gameplay. Alliances were forming. The knives were already out. Chrissy openly admitted to being diabolical.
Christian and Rick were off looking for idols. Rick was known as the idol guy. He needed to find one idol at least and it was a bit frustrating not knowing if they were out there or not. Fans decide everything, remember. They might have decided not to hide any idols. The cast doesn’t know for sure. They were looking and Rick was making allies. He quickly befriended Christian. They befriended Emily. They were building allies and Emily knew not to put her full faith into anyone until the alliance has been tested.
Q and Ozzy were still on Exile. It was cold out there. They didn’t have fire or food. There were plenty of bugs. A spider climbed into Q’s mouth while he was trying to sleep. Ozzy reassured him that next time he can swallow it because it was at least protein. Q was happy to return to the others. He refused to tell them that he lost his vote. He instead spilled the tea on the reignited Ozzy/Coach beef. The one person Q opened up to was Kyle. He told Kyle that he lost his vote and that moment of trust helped him join a foursome alliance.
Ozzy returned to his tribe with the bad news, but he quickly showed off his skills when he nurtured a fire. He helped build a fire with Christian’s help. Christian used the science behind two glasses to create it. Ozzy nurtured it. Together they brought fire to Cila tribe. They still didn’t have rice. Or even a pot. They had fire and they knew how to catch fish and grab coconuts. It was on this same beach that Jenna was throwing around Cirie’s name. They hadn’t made it to their first immunity challenge yet Jenna was aiming at “the Queen”.
Cirie found out about it. She talked to Ozzy. The two have been through a lot together. He was the one person she knew would be upfront with her and he was. He told her that he had an extra vote. If needed, they could take out Jenna before she came for them. It was great gameplay. Ozzy instantly cemented an ally. They later went into the Immunity Challenge. The rewards for that one was immense because they got Immunity as well as fishing gear if they won. They can now finally hunt for fish properly rather than hoping for the best.
There was also some good news. Colby ended up changing his mind about Rizo. He came to like all that energy. He befriended the younger man and he offered to be there for him whenever it gets tough. Rizo was the same age he was when he first played the game. He finally dawned on him that he could be a mentor. They took that energy into the Immunity Challenge. Things got bad for their tribemate, Kyle. Kyle injured himself in the relay. He didn’t want to be medevac. He wanted to stay and keep playing.
It’s a good thing too because it was their tribe that won. They got the rewards. They got the Immunity. Cirie’s tribe made a crucial mistake and that mistake might cost Cirie her game. Cirie lost the challenge for them. Ozzy immediately defended her. He wanted to eliminate Jenna. He pushed hard for Jenna. Some felt too hard because it made them suspicious about why. Joe raised those questions and suddenly it wasn’t just Jenna’s name being floated anymore. There were talks of Cirie or even Ozzy himself.
Both Cirie and Ozzy were tough to beat if they all get to the end. This had to be taken into account. They were strategic players and they were clearly working together. Emily was the first to mention Ozzy. She said it as a joke until Rick told her upfront that many might agree with it. Suddenly, people were wondering if they should go after Ozzy over Jenna. The thing that stood out was the fear. They didn’t want to lose again. They needed beasts in challenges like Ozzy and Jenna. They didn’t need Cirie.
It ultimately came down to relationships. They knew they could work with social players like Cirie and challenge beasts like Ozzy. So, the others chose to play it safe. They voted out Jenna. She was first in and first out. Jenna was so upset. She practically stormed out. She said in her later interview that she hopes they lose every challenge from here on out. Jenna believed they didn’t prioritize winning so her faith in them wasn’t high. Back at the other beach, someone found an idol proving that idols were still out there.
Genevieve found a Billie Eilish Boomerang Idol. She had to give her idol to someone on a different tribe. If they get eliminated without playing it, it boomerangs back to Genevieve who does get to play it. She considered who would have it and not use it. She chose Ozzy because it happened before. She didn’t know that Ozzy already had an advantage. He had an extra vote and this on top of an idol gives him a lot of power. He may have survived the first elimination, but there were still knives out for him.
Ozzy knew it too. He did his best to be the provider. He got food for his tribe. He helped them with the fire. He was doing everything he could to stay and they were still considering him as expendable. Now, he has power. He didn’t tell anyone about the idol. He just told Cirie about the extra vote. He still had some game left. There was a boat that came to the tribes. They offered to take them away to play for reward and everyone knew by now that they could lose their vote if they risk playing and it didn’t end in their favor.
Colby and Savannah chose to risk it. Savannah ended up wining the reward. She got a Block A Vote. She didn’t tell her tribe what she won and so that automatically put a target on her back. Mike returned from the excursion with gossip. He told Coach all about the gossip about him stealing the reward from Ozzy. Coach was so annoyed by that because he thought they were still good. He thought this in spite literally stealing a reward away from Ozzy after Ozzy got it. Coach was now upset that this could ruin his game. He was back to feuding. Ozzy was back to feuding. And tonight was only the premiere.
Jeff also came visiting Kyle with the doctor. They had checked him at the challenge. They didn’t think anything was broken at the time only they needed to confirm if that was the case. So, they checked him a few days after the injury. They did a sonogram on Kyle’s leg. It showed a tear in his tendon. Kyle wanted to push through it and they informed him that they have a duty of care. They couldn’t let him keep playing. Kyle had to leave “Survivor 50”. He was the integral part of an alliance and now what will happen.
No one was more broken up than Genevieve. Genevieve admits she didn’t always have an easy time connecting to people and she did with Kyle. Many did with Kyle. He was playing a great social game until this injury took him out. It was such a shame.
THE END
