The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers reveal that many fans are still cheering over the announcement that Josh Griffith is wrapping up his time as the show’s head writer.
This is good news if you feel Y&R has gone stale and could use a fresh start.
However, it’s important to be prepared for more changes now that Griffith’s exit is locked in.
This could easily lead to some key actors getting cut as Y&R makes room for new characters and recasts.
Head writers bring their own unique vision and preferences to the show.
With that in mind, a new writer coming in may not have the same desire to write for the characters and couples that Griffith did.
Griffith was determined to fit Billy Flynn in a Cane Ashby mold that he probably didn’t belong in.
It’s clear that Griffith wants Cane and Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) to be a big couple for the show, but will the next head writer agree or even want Cane around?
There’s also the matter of Matt Clark’s (Roger Howarth) controversial redemption since many fans just don’t think it’s possible.
Some viewers will simply never accept Matt after all the monstrous things he’s done – no matter how charming Howarth might be.
A new head writer could easily shift gears and write Matt out instead, so that’s something to keep in mind.
Of course, we also have to consider whether some sidelined characters might get shipped off-screen.
Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) and Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) aren’t doing much, so it’d be easy to send them out of town with Connor Newman (Judah Mackey).
The same goes for Sienna Bacall (Tamara Braun), Noah Newman (Lucas Adams) and perhaps other familiar faces who aren’t really an essential part of the action in Genoa City these days.
Regardless, head writer changes often lead to firings and hirings.
Y&R could potentially get rid of some cast members and free up money for new character additions, a Summer Newman (last played by Allison Lanier) recast and more.
