The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers reveal that the show will soon be headed down a different path thanks to a huge change behind the scenes.
Head Writer Josh Griffith’s time at Y&R is winding down since Jamey Giddens and Dan O’Connor have officially been chosen as his replacements.
After Griffith announced his departure toward the end of June, it was revealed that he’d remain in the head writer position until his successor could be chosen.
Now we know Griffith is getting two successors at once since O’Connor and Giddens are the show’s new co-head writing duo.
Giddens and O’Connor will no doubt hit the ground running when they step into their new roles during the week of August 3-7.
It’ll take a little while for O’Connor and Giddens’ material to make it on-screen, but many fans will be looking forward to it.
Of course, you might be wondering what Giddens and O’Connor’s version of Y&R will look like.
Whenever there’s a head writer swap like this, the show always has a little different flavor.
TV Insider offered confirmation on O’Connor and Giddens replacing Griffith before revealing what their insiders are saying about the takeover.
Their sources indicate that the show’s hoping to get back to the type of storylines that made Y&R great in the past.
Insiders point out that the CBS soap “is aiming to recapture the classic storytelling style that helped make The Young and the Restless the No. 1-rated daytime drama, a position it has held in the Nielsen ratings since the 1988-1989 season,”
That makes it sound like the show’s going to focus on some familiar soap tropes and perhaps offer up more love in the afternoon, too.
There’ll surely be additional details on Giddens and O’Connor’s specific vision down the road, but it’s nice to know there’s at least a plan for the show to get back to basics and deliver some material that’s been a proven success.
