The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers reveal that Matt Clark’s (Roger Howarth) redemption arc is just getting started, so he’s got a long road ahead of him.
By showing genuine remorse and committing to being a better person than he was before, Matt is starting to make a little progress.
Matt also did CPR on Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) with Phyllis Summers’ (Michelle Stafford) help, so he played a big role in saving Nick from a grim fate.
The Newmans would probably be planning a funeral right now if it weren’t for Matt, so that matters.
That said, Matt’s vile history is always going to follow him and will be impossible to fully escape.
There are some GC residents as well as some viewers who’ll never be able to look beyond Matt’s past horrors.
In a recent interview with SOD, Y&R Head Writer Josh Griffith talked about how difficult it would be for Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) in particular to see Matt with fresh eyes.
“It’s going to be very hard for her. It’s hardest for her because in many ways, she’s been the most abused by this man,” Griffith said about Sharon.
Griffith also insisted that Matt needed to atone for his sins, but that one instance of saving Nick’s life obviously isn’t enough.
Matt will need to do plenty more good deeds, so what if he saves the life of someone else Sharon cares about?
That brings us to some interesting behind-the-scenes info.
A wardrobe tag for Victoria recently indicated that she’d have scenes at the coffeehouse with Sharon, Matt and Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) in an episode down the line.
That proves that Matt will be a free man and that Mariah will be released from her psychiatric facility by then, too.
Since Matt’s going to be in Mariah’s orbit, perhaps there’ll be some instance where he could save her daughter and Sharon’s granddaughter.
It’s easy to imagine Aria Porter-Copeland (Maddie and Millie Ingle) choking before Matt comes to her rescue or something along those lines.
Then again, Aria might wander off and leave everyone in panic mode until Matt saves the day by finding her.
Matt might even stop Aria from being hit by a car depending on how the situation plays out.
If Matt comes to Aria’s rescue, that could certainly help sway Sharon’s opinion of him.
Sharon will never fully trust Matt, but she’d owe him her gratitude once more if he spared her granddaughter from a terrible outcome.
