The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers hint that Matt Clark’s (Roger Howarth) redemption could be in jeopardy.
Although Matt has decided to head down a better path, that doesn’t mean he’ll stay on it.
The whole situation surrounding Matt’s amnesia and sudden turnaround was always rather odd.
Matt suffered a head injury that caused him to lose his memory, but he was horrified when he ultimately remembered all the awful crimes he’d committed.
Now Matt is basically a lovable goofball who’s just trying to be a better man and avoid causing that kind of pain ever again.
This doesn’t even feel like the Matt that fans used to know at this point.
It’s obvious that Y&R Head Writer Josh Griffith wanted to redeem Matt and keep him in Genoa City, but there’s no guarantee the next head writer who takes over will feel the same way.
It’s common for cast changes to follow head writing transitions, so it’s possible Roger Howarth could get the boot.
If that happens, then the easiest way to write Matt out would be to have him revert to the worst possible version of himself.
It’s possible Matt’s sinister impulses could return all at once, but it’s also possible he could start having moments of weakness instead.
Viewers might see Matt struggle to fight the terrible desires that are creeping back in, but he could eventually surrender to becoming a full-blown villain once more.
Matt could embrace being a baddie again and realize he’s in the ideal position to get the ultimate revenge on the Newmans.
Although the Newman clan may never fully trust Matt, they certainly don’t view him as the same threat they did a few months ago.
Matt could lull the Newmans into a false sense of security and launch a sneak attack that none of them will see coming.
Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) might also get duped and end up heartbroken when Matt still turns out to be a monster in the end.
