The Young and the Restless (Y&R) recap for Thursday, September 17, reveals that Matt Clark’s (Roger Howarth) letter will lead to some alarm bells for Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) about his exit strategy with Patty Williams (Stacy Haiduk).
Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) and Diane Jenkins Abbott (Susan Walters) will also open a mysterious package from Patty, who’ll pass along with a goodbye note.
At the Abbott mansion on Thursday’s Y&R episode, Diane and Jack will mull over why Patty decided to avoid the hospital instead of taking the bait.
After Diane spots a box that’s been delivered, she’ll fly into panic mode.
It’ll leave Diane worried about an explosive device being inside, so Jack will have the security team check it while he reads the card.
Patty will indeed be the sender of this gift and note, which will indicate that a friend convinced her to leave town.
Although Patty will be disappointed about not getting her happy ending with Jack, she’ll hint about not knowing what the future holds.
Diane will worry this sounds like more of a threat than a goodbye, but Jack will hope that Patty is truly going to disappear.
At the Riverbank Motel, Phyllis will find Matt’s farewell letter, which will apologize for not giving her a face-to-face goodbye like he promised.
Matt will insist he figured out that his heroic act should be convincing Patty to leave Genoa City with him.
Although Matt will know that means leaving Phyllis behind, he’ll feel like this is better for everyone.
Matt will want Phyllis to forget about him and move on with her life.
Soon after, Phyllis will get past security at the Abbott mansion, where she’ll push Jack and Diane to help her find Patty.
Diane and Jack will realize Matt must be the friend Patty decided to go with.
Jack and Diane will obviously have a different goal than Phyllis since they’d rather see Patty stay gone.
Besides, without any hints in the letter about where Patty’s going, Diane and Jack won’t have any news to offer.
Jack and Diane will ultimately open the mystery box that Patty sent them, which will contain her stuffed cat, Mr. Kitty.
At the Newman ranch, Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) will check in with Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) and Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) following his rehab release.
Although Victor will be eager to get back to work, Victor will be wary since his recovery is still fragile.
However, Victoria will leave the decision in Victoria Newman’s (Amelia Heinle) hands.
After Nick reunites with Victoria at the tack house, she’ll agree he can return to Newman Enterprises as long as he eases back into things slowly.
Victor will meet up with Nikki and Victor later, so they’ll discuss their efforts to make Nick feel supported.
Victor will also have some lingering concerns about the Matt situation since he won’t know about Matt’s departure plans with Patty yet.
At Crimson Lights, Nick will meet up with Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) before Matt walks in.
Matt will contend that he’s leaving town for real this time and will insist he’s sorry for his role in Nick’s drug issues.
After Matt says Sharon and Nick don’t have to worry about him or think about him ever again, he’ll prepare to exit and will find Phyllis standing in the doorway.
The Young and the Restless spoilers say Phyllis will soon make a last-ditch effort to change Matt’s mind, but she may not get her wish!
