In tonight’s Tracker episode, Reenie took on a massive lawsuit. She was filing charges against a corporation for wrongful death. They were a real estate company and they took shortcuts in construction.
There was a lot of people that died of cancer after they got done. Reenie was brought this case through an old friend. She trusted Maxine, but she got herself involved with some dangerous people.
The people from Praiter & Rockwell tend to tie things up so much in court that people often take a low figure to walk away. They tried to do that with Kurtis Lauper as well. Kurtis didn’t bite. He instead collected evidence against them that they tried to dismiss by calling him crazy.
They did more than just call him crazy. They practically drove him over the edge. They made sure he was hospitalized before he was even sick. They turned people against him.
They ostracized him. hoping to break him. It never worked. He still had the evidence. He eventually agreed to testify for Reenie. Reenie was about call him as her first witness when he suddenly disappeared. Reenie and her friend Maxine were worried. They checked his house. His car was gone. And somehow his oxygen tank was still there.
It didn’t make sense. Maxine wanted to call the cops. Reenie suggested they call Colter. Colter was known to find missing people. Its what he does and he came through for him.
He instantly found evidence of something nefarious. He said the guys broke into Kurtis’s house. There was a fight. It ended with someone getting stabbed by the blood he found.
He also searched Kurtis’s home until he found evidence that more than on assailant was involved. They searched for Kurtis’s truck. It was later found in a ditch. There were no signs anyone was in there at the moment of the “accident”.
They must’ve had a car waiting for them. The closest place nearby was a bar over a half-mile away. Colter went to the bar. He did a favor for the waitress and gained an access to the surveillance system. He found out that Kurtis was still alive. He was also quick on his feet for an old guy with an oxygen tank.
He stole a car after driving his old one over a cliff. Kurtis was on the run and Colter soon found him at a cabin in the woods. Kurtis was torturing the guy who came after him. It turns out he hadn’t been fully truthful with Reenie.
Kurtis Lauper wasn’t his real name. He went by a different name back when he worked for the Dixie Mafia. He used to work for a man named Lowell Parker. Parker trusted him. He put Kurtis in charge of his daughter. Unfortunately, the girl was troubled. She was in and out of rehab all the time. She was an addict.
Kurtis went to pick her up one day to find her dad in the bathtub. She died of an apparent overdose. There was nothing Kurtis could do to save her so he ran. He took the name of a kid that died as a child. And started over in a new state with the name Kurtis Lauper.
Kurtis was right to run because Parker couldn’t let it go. He needed someone to blame for his daughter’s death. It easier to blame Kurtis rather than his own daughter for her death.
The one thing Kurtis couldn’t figure out was how Parker found him. His best guess had to be the lawsuit. It must gotten around to Parker that he was still around and that he was taking part in a massive lawsuit.
He told all of this to Colter as well as Reenie on the phone. Reenie realized that somehow the people Praiter and Rockwell must have leaked his information.
There was no public record with Kurtis’s name on it. The only people that knew his name to tip off the Dixie Mafia were the lawyers. They went looking for the mole and Kurtis was forced to confront his past because Parker abducted his stepdaughter. Parker planned on killing Jackie in front of Kurtis.
He just didn’t count on Colter showing up too. Colter took out Parker’s men. He stopped him from killing Jackie and eventually killed Parker himself. Reenie also helped as well. She turned her car into a weapon to help Kurtis.
Kurtis was taken to a hospital because of his injuries. He was going to be okay. He also still agreed to testify in their lawsuit, but there was no need.
They found out Praiter and Rockwell’s main lawyer tipped off the Dixie Mafia. Setting up a witness to get murdered would have disbarred him so he made a deal. He forced his boss into making a generous plea deal. Reenie and Maxine were going to get justice for those wrongful deaths.
Reenie also had some shooting lessons with Colter so that she felt less scared about the job.
THE END!
