The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers reveal that several storylines are heating up, but that’s pushed some characters aside while others steal the spotlight. There’s one fan favorite in particular we want to talk about. Dina Mergeron’s (Marla Adams) memory issues became too difficult for Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) and the rest of the family to handle at home, so she was sent to a memory care facility.
Of course, this is an important phase that many people deal with in real life. Dina’s battle with Alzheimer’s has been heartbreaking, but it’s a gripping story that needs to be told. Although it was painful, it was good to see some movement in this plot. Y&R was taking the next step and could’ve set up more story opportunities, but now it feels more like it was just an excuse to get rid of Dina.
It would’ve been nice to see Dina at Kyle Abbott’s (Michael Mealor) recent wedding to Lola Abbott (Sasha Calle), but we got a toast on Dina’s behalf instead. Is Dina really so far gone that she couldn’t attend her beloved grandson’s nuptials? Dina’s been known to make bit of a scene, but Y&R could’ve let her have a fairly lucid day. Perhaps Dina’s confusion could’ve even been used as part of the drama.
It was a shame that Dina couldn’t be part of the celebration, and it doesn’t look like there’s much coming up for her either. Dina isn’t listed in any fall preview info. However, The Young and the Restless spoilers say Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson) will be popping up more often for family visits. There’s a chance Dina will be included in some of them, but we probably shouldn’t get our hopes up.
Y&R seems pretty much done with Dina until her inevitable death arc. There’s no word on when that’ll happen, but it’s sad that they’ve just sent Dina off and we’re now waiting for her to fade away. Marla Adams has earned plenty of fans through her fantastic portrayal. On Twitter, many viewers have expressed disappointment over the show’s treatment of Adams along with her character.
“Jack spoke of Dina at the wedding reception,” one fan said. “I wish #YR would show more of her. The actress playing her is great.” Another viewer insisted, “No matter the circumstances, Dina should be at the wedding. The way her character has been discarded is disgusting.” One more fan asked “where’s dina on y&r these days” and added that “her storyline consists of authenticity and heart.”
The Young and the Restless spoilers say we’ll see a little more of the Abbotts in the months ahead, but the Newman clan will remain the focus. Do you miss Dina?
