In tonight’s Matlock episode, Debra Palmer didn’t know a meal she couldn’t take a picture of. She lived to post on social media. She took thousands of photos. Her NDA however stated something went down at the Sydney Opera House.
They just needed to find a photo of everyone who was there that night. Maddy has photos of the whole Welbrexa board on her special board. They were going to go through all the photos to determine who buried the report. If they could flip that person on Senior, Senior goes down for the many deaths caused by this addictive prescription.
Only there was a problem. Maddy and Olympia ran into Senior on their way into the office. They thought he was acting odd. They then heard that the merger meeting was cancelled. Senior’s assistant didn’t know why.
He also didn’t know why he was now taking orders from Julian. Olympia and Maddy then feared the worst. They thought maybe Julian went back on his word. He told his father about the investigation. They were lawyering up. It wasn’t the case and them thinking that only made them feel worse when they later learned what really happened.
Senior wasn’t onto them. He had a stroke. He was marching himself to the hospital. He didn’t tell anyone because he didn’t want to look weak after just fighting off a coup from one of his ex-wives.
Julian had been worried about him acting oddly. He noticed the his dad slurring his words. He rushed him to the hospital and it might not be enough because Senior was eventually put in a medically induced coma. Julian was his father’s emergency contact as well as his medical proxy. He was making decisions now.
Olympia was there to help. She was close to Senior for a while. She was once his daughter-in-law. He was Grandpa to her kids and she didn’t want him to be harmed. She passed her current case off to Maddy.
She was focusing on supporting her family right now. She didn’t even want to think of Wellbrexa. She just couldn’t stop Maddy from doing the same. Maddy and Edwin want to continue their investigation. They found a photo from Sydney of what looks like Senior’s hand because he was wearing his watch. And the photo also showed the Wellbrexa file.
They needed to see the real thing to confirm it. Maddy was willing to collect the file herself. She only needed a signature from Olympia and Olympia didn’t want to give it. She wanted Senior to get better because of their past. Maddy wanted the same for a very different reason.
She wanted to put the man in jail. She wanted justice for her daughter. She blamed Senior for her daughter’s death. Wellbrexa taking a dangerous pill off the market could have prevented Ellie’s early death. She might have lived long enough to raise her son. Or she might not.
It was easy to blame Wellbrexa. Ellie was an addict. Wellbrexa wasn’t the only one making additive medication and there was no telling if Ellie hadn’t taken something equally as dangerous she wouldn’t have gotten addicted to that.
Maddy and her husband both overlook that part. They were focused on getting justice to the point it becomes ghoulish the way they were more worried about the case than they were about Senior’s life. Senior wasn’t perfect. He was a horrible father. Still, his son didn’t want to lose him.
Julian felt bad about betraying his dad. He simply tried to walk a fine line. He went through his dad’s phone after the stroke and he found a number listed under Australia. He gave it to Olympia then he went back to being a son.
Maddy on the other hand called that number right away. It was for the hotel in Sydney. She didn’t think it was anything and Olympia showed her the file she has. It wasn’t a match for the one in the photo. Edwin had wanted to hold onto the file. Olympia still took it back. She also refused to hear Maddy’s reasoning.
Maddy asked what happens if Senior doesn’t make it? They still wanted to go after the lawyers that buried the report. Without Senior, there was just Julian left. Olympia refused to go there
. He was the father of her children and she wasn’t going to put him behind bars. Not when he helped. Not when he assisted them in taking down Senior. Senior passing should be the end of it. Only morality was what you stand for when you have everything to lose. Olympia saw that when she saw Ellie’s stocking still out.
Matters aside, Maddy still tried her best in court. She defended a gay firefighter who had been hazed and was almost killed on the job by his fellow firefighters. Maddy lost the case.
They had a witness willing to testify to help them when he suddenly changed his mind. He found out one of the men had cancer. He didn’t want him to lose his insurance now that it’s needed the most. He changed his mind. They lost the case because of it and it made Sarah come forward. Sarah told Olympia that she showed pictures of Julian’s date book to Senior. She was the mole.
She didn’t get fired, but she will be moved off of Olympia’s team. Olympia no longer trusts her. They couldn’t work together without it. Olympia later gave the Wellbrexa file to Maddy. She decided to let the chips fall where they may. What she didn’t know was that Julian heard everything. He tested her.
The number he gave her was directed to his phone first because he wanted to see whose side his ex was on. His or Maddy’s. It turns out it was Maddy’s. He’s been spying on her and there’s no telling what he’ll do now.
THE END!
