In tonight’s NCIS: ORIGINS episode, Gibbs left Alaska to meet up with Woody in modern times. He brought evidence of his shooting to him. He wanted to know who tried to kill him and he remembered Woody was one of the best. Woody might also be connected to the enemy that wanted to take him out.

Back in the past, Woody had gotten into some trouble in Mexico. He got involved in a bar brawl. There were a group of guys flirting with a girl in Tijuana. She wasn’t into it. Woody stepped in before things got bad. It then turned into an all-out brawl that possibly involved over eight people.

Woody wouldn’t know. He couldn’t remember. He got really drunk to celebrate winning a bowling championship. His bowling team hadn’t been with him because Woody claimed he was a generational talent and they were just jealous. The federales eventually released him. Gibbs drove down to pick him up.

He even gave him a ride back to his house where they found a dead woman in Woody’s living room. The victim was Sheila Hoffman. She bowled in the same league as Woody. And that meant he knew her.

NCIS was forced to detain Woody. They processed him. They held him for questioning and unfortunately they wouldn’t be the ones questioning him. It became an FBI case.

Woody was a NCIS federal agent after all. He couldn’t be investigated by one of his own. The FBI had to do it. It was supposed to be Agent Joe Swanson that lead the investigation. She ended up getting called away so her partner took over Woody’s case. Agent Casey Bloom was weird. Or at least weird for the time because he was saying namaste while Franks was asking to be a part of the case.

Bloom also added that Woody’s fingerprints were found on the strangulation victim’s necklace. The only reason he wasn’t charging him because he couldn’t figure out the motive. People didn’t kill each other over bowling. Bloom was still looking for motive and he wasn’t allowing the team to talk to Woody in the meantime.

Phil got around that. Phil had been in San Francisco for an anime convention. He flew back once he heard about Woody. Phil was one of the few granted access to Woody because they were still covering forensic files together. It also didn’t hurt that he best understood Woody.

Take the notebook thing. Woody’s dad died when he was a kid. He had wanted to talk to someone about it and his mom let him know that it couldn’t be her. She ended up giving him a notebook in place of that. She told him to write down his feelings in there if ever needed to talk. It’s now how he processes his emotions. Woody was asked about any upcoming cases where he was due to testify. He couldn’t think of any. He was also asked about his bowling team. He bowls with forensics experts. He claimed none of them were smart enough to frame him.

Woody has a massive ego in more than just bowling. He had a second reason to ask for that notebook. He wanted to work the case himself because ultimately it was his life on the line. They tried to tell him it was impossible. They upgraded that advice in telling him to ask for a lawyer. Woody was still so sure that he could solve the case that he didn’t ask for a lawyer. He agreed to talk to Agent Bloom in exchange for seeing the forensic evidence. Bloom let him think that can happen when a smart person should’ve remembered to never trust what people say in interrogation.

Woody does have a motive to kill Sheila. They found that out when they tracked down members of his bowling team. He once publicly humiliated his fellow forensics specialist for thinking they could transfer a fingerprint. He broke it down point by point on how it could be done over the guy’s theory. They thought it gave Graham Taylor motive to frame him for murder. The man did later run from the cops. Though that was due to him cooking crack in his home. He didn’t kill Sheila. He said Sheila and Woody hated each other and that she asked to be as far away from Woody’s lane as possible.

Sheila was one for practical jokes. She pulled one on Woody that broke his wrist. He couldn’t become a professional athlete afterwards because of it. There was the motive. Woody was about to be charged when Gibbs solved the case. Gibbs realized how the person broke into Woody’s house. They copied his key. He left his key in his locker at the bowling alley. The only person with access to it was the man who owns the place. That man had his own beef with Sheila. She reported vermin in his kitchen merely because she liked to complain. It hadn’t been the truth.

And the guy lost thirty percent of income thanks to that little joke. Sheila was hell to deal with. The man killed her and framed Woody so that no one was looking at him. Gibbs helped get Woody out of a fake charge. Its why he went to Woody in modern times to get a fingerprint off the man that tried to kill him though Woody didn’t have the clearance to see someone’s file once it had been hidden in AFIS. Only someone like the new Director of NCIS does have that pull. Gibbs had left his dog at Woody’s in return for that favor from all those years ago and then he went back to DC to see Tony DiNozzo.

THE END!
